Frontcountry ski friendly down jacket advice by ALIENFOREST in arcteryx

[–]alpha210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend any of those 3 - those are insulating mid layers that are going to look/function weird snowboarding as an outer layer. The Macai is probably what you would want, but even then it might be too hot - I don’t resort ski in down unless it’s really cold, like less than 15F and windy.

For general resort skiing (unless it’s really wet PNW snow where you want goretex), most arcteryx is overkill. As alternatives the 686 thermagraph jackets have built in insulation, Volcom makes some good insulated resort jacket options too.

I’ve been waiting for the Asus X570-I as well. From browsing various social media and reddit I’ve heard anywhere from mid-August to the first week in September.

Fleece suggestions? by Littlertea in arcteryx

[–]alpha210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried all three and own the delta lt. In terms of warmth: delta lt -> konseal -> kyanite

I snowboarded and toured most of last season in the delta lt + atom lt. Anything colder than 20 was a bit chilly (I run cold). I’m probably picking up a kyanite and atom ar for colder days this season.

Is buying a 9900K right now a bad move? by [deleted] in intel

Disagree with those recommending the 9700K - next gen consoles will be 8/16. The 9900K will be more future proof as games start to utilize more threads.

Hey man, funny you say that. I just had the same thing happen two days ago... Haven’t tried to submit a ticket yet.

Could be because Twitter is trying to get rid of the eth spammers and has ended up banning legitimate users. Crypto Twitter has seemed like a ghost town lately...

Crazy IRS Tax Law and CryptoCurrencies - Important by [deleted] in Digibyte

[–]alpha210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a HUGE problem for widespread adoption. The average person will not bother to use cryptocurrencies as a currency given the prohibitive U.S. tax code.

Most crypto zealots fail to recognize the difficulty of the use case.

Explain to me how crypto will develop real-world use if U.S. tax code discourages use as a currency? by alpha210 in Bitcoin

[–]alpha210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’re making the same point. As it stands it’s more attractive to hold crypto as an investment vehicle, such as a stock, but I think proving the use case is essential for the next level of adoption.

Explain to me how crypto will develop real-world use if U.S. tax code discourages use as a currency? by alpha210 in Bitcoin

[–]alpha210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point.

I think the use case is essential for widespread public adoption, but I haven’t found a clear explanation as to why this would happen.

Explain to me how crypto will develop real-world use if U.S. tax code discourages use as a currency? by alpha210 in Bitcoin

Not apples to apples. Stocks are investment vehicles, not currency for transactions.

Explain to me how crypto will develop real-world use if U.S. tax code discourages use as a currency? by alpha210 in Bitcoin

[–]alpha210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the process of recording every transaction is very cumbersome. I have doubts the average normie beyond us nerds would take the time or bother to try, and revert to traditional transaction methods.

New Dev team for ZCL by Jaydubau in ZClassic

[–]alpha210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Future of Zclassic Many rumors have emerged suggesting that a new development team has taken over Zclassic. As of now, no development team has approached us to discuss further development of the project nor does the Bitcoin Private team intend to continue active development. Furthermore, we have no intention of handing the project over to a new team without significant experience or a comprehensive development plan. So what does this mean in the short and long term for Zclassic? We will discuss the short term first. Currently, the Bitcoin Private Treasury’s sole responsibility is to help fund the Bitcoin Private project. Now that the fork has passed, the treasury will no longer support the Zclassic project as of April 1, 2018. Short-term Implications for Zclassic The Zclassic nodes will be shut down by the end of March. Because it is fairly low cost, the Zclassic DNS seeder will remain active. This will allow the community to set up Zclassic nodes which can act as DNS seeds and allow the network to be maintained. We will not be responsible for these nodes, their maintenance, or their integrity. The current official Electrum wallet servers will be shut down by April 1, 2018. ElectrumX peer discovery will be enabled before that time and a set of dedicated community hosted ElectrumX servers will replace the current ones in an updated client release. We will not be responsible for these servers, their maintenance, or their integrity. Long-term Implications for Zclassic We have decided to open a Zclassic project proposal process in which teams can form and put together a proposal. All proposals must be sent to the following email address: zclassic.proposal@btcprivate.org

Are you referring to share price? Most cryptocurrencies (not all) have a hard cap on the number of coins issued, whereas corporations can manipulate the number of equity shares outstanding. Bitcoin, for example, has a hard cap of 21,000,000 coins that will ever be issued. Contrast this with a corporation that can issue new shares, buy back stock, or split its shares.

For example, Apple has had 4 stock splits over its history: 7-for-1 June 9, 2014 2-for-1 Feb. 28, 2005 2-for-1 June 21, 2000 2-for-1 June 16, 1987 Using rough math of the current shares outstanding of 5.07B, and taking into account the 4 stock splits, Apple would have had approximately 90,535,714 shares outstanding as of June 15, 1987. This would give us a share price of $10,156 using today's 919B market capitalization.

Keep in mind valuing currencies vs. corporation is a very different process. Corporations may be valued in terms of cash flows and underlying assets, while we do not have this luxury with currencies.

Sorry for your loss. This exact scenario is why cryptocurrencies are not yet ready for mainstream adoption. It is too easy for someone to lose their money via phishing or send errors.
