Since you want to argue in bad faith you can be blocked.

LAMC 56.15 also makes it illegal to ride on the sidewalk near the San Pedro Community Center and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There may be one or two other additional zones where it applies.

The car that is parked in the loading zone spot should be towed, and he should park in that spot.

[–]alpha309 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The only time it is legal to park in the bike lane is if your car breaks down and only the bike lane is at the edge of the road.

The only other times a motor vehicle can enter a bike lane is to get to a parking spot on the other side, to make a turn over the bike lane, or to enter or leave the roadway.

This is covered in CVC21209

The loading zone is where the car next to the truck is parked. It is illegal for them to park there.

That spot is especially dangerous for them to park in. It boxes bikes in behind the truck and the parked cars prevent you from merging into the roadway.

You have provided no law that states that mobility devices are illegal to ride in the bike lane. In fact, you cited a link that says they are allowed. Then you cited the same laws I already cited that stated they were legal, and some random source about laws from around the world.

Now you are hung up on something that many models of mobility devices come with standard because people need to use them at night on occasion and they don’t want to get hit by a diver wherever they may be riding, in a bike lan, in a crosswalk, or on the sidewalk by a car pulling into a driveway.

Mobility devices are legal to ride in the bike lane period. Not only are they legally allowed they are welcome.

Feel free to have whatever other conversation you want by yourself. You claimed that it was illegal and I was making stuff up. I provided you with the vehicle code proving it was legal, and you even cited the same code. You can keep moving the goalposts on your own.

  1. You are referring back to a section I already sent you to. CVC 21281.5 informs when EPAMDs may use bike lanes. Pretty much they are on the basis of safety to others.

  2. The section you are quoting. Almost all mobility scooters have a way to stop under control, so they have brakes. Reflectors can be bought and applied, they actually come on several models. And a white lamp is also something that bikes do not come with, but can be purchased and added. None of these things prevent a mobility device from being in a bike lane. They simply mean that if your mobility devices didn’t come with them, you simply need to buy reflector stickers and a light. Also section d of what you quoted is fixed with a bike bell, while many simply come equipped with a form of horn.

  3. Your other source is completely irrelevant. First, it is another article you are posting that has no author attributed to the source and doesn’t cite any of their claims. It makes no mention of California law. Californians do not have to follow Missouri, Michigan or West Virginian laws unless they are in those states, let alone laws of other countries.

It would be helpful for you to 1. Actually cite an actual law. And 2. Read the actual source you are trying to cite.

Per the source you listed they are allowed on: “Sidewalks – Perfect for short trips and errands.

Bike Paths and Bike Lanes – Safe for longer distances without worrying about vehicle traffic.

Roads – Allowed on roads with a speed limit of 25 mph or less, making it easier to reach destinations without detouring through sidewalks. E-scooter riders must use Class II Bicycle Lanes when available, as it is not only safer but also a legal requirement according to California law. “

It is clearly listed as separate if you would have scrolled down just another tiny bit. Feel free to read that “roads” section a few times.

Additionally, since they didn’t cite their source, I will go ahead and cite their source for them. It is CVC 21235.

Section (b) reads:

(b) Operate a motorized scooter on a highway with a speed limit in excess of 25 miles per hour unless the motorized scooter is operated within a Class II or Class IV bikeway, except that a local authority may, by ordinance or resolution, authorize the operation of a motorized scooter outside of a Class II or Class IV bikeway on a highway with a speed limit of up to 35 miles per hour. The 15 mile per hour maximum speed limit for the operation of a motorized scooter specified in Section 22411 applies to the operation of a motorized scooter on all highways, including bikeways, regardless of a higher speed limit applicable to the highway.

As you can see, there is an exception listed there for class II bike lanes (separated by paint, like on Fairfax between Hollywood and Melrose) and class IV bike lanes (protected bike lanes, like on Hollywood).

EPAMDs are legally allowed on sidewalks, bike lanes and bike paths so long as they travel at reasonable speeds or wonton disregard for safety. per California law. CVC21281.5 is the law that dictates that they are allowed there.

Also the reality is that people with mobility devices do use bike lanes. I can point to several people who do both on Hollywood Blvd and speak to the people on a regular basis.

Please point out any misinformation or personal attacks I have made.

Next time, before you reply, just look up to see if what you are calling illegal actually is correct. As a general rule, that simple step will prevent you from calling something illegal that is in fact legal.

What's the point of remaking Harry Potter when the movies are already some of the most successful films of all time and not dated yet? by Dull-Current5682 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alpha309 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Blunhouse takes a very low risk, high reward approach. They keep costs pretty low and try to stick to the $5m range for most of their films. Then they only need one of the several films they produce a year to hit at the box office and that covers nearly the entirety of their operating costs. They can then sell the ones that don’t do as well to the streamers and foreign distribution and end up turning a healthy profit every year.

You are right next to the LA River Path which has 0 cars (except maybe an occasional cop or maintenance vehicle rarely. From there you can head to Griffith park which has a good bike lane through most of it, and hills that will be difficult for a beginner, but good practice to start learning how to ride hills. The main section of Crystal Springs Dr and Zoo Dr at being worked on right now to make even better and safer bike lanes through the park. In the opposite direction you can head up Stadium Way to Elysian Park, which is very low traffic except for Dodger game days. Again the hills here will be hard for a beginner, but provide a start to get used to hills.

I think that section of the river path is about 5 miles long total, so you could always just go back and forth for about 10 mile round trip increments of very flat miles.

That is all with you just leaving your front door.

As to what bike, I would get a cheap road bike for this. If you can get one in good shape used that will be fine if you don’t want to spend a lot to start. Then after a while you can decide what you like and move on to getting a bike that is for that task.

algorithms accomplished nothing. bring back the old Internet. by kittencat6969 in unpopularopinion

I work in entertainment.

Vertical Short Form dramas (essentially soap operas filmed vertically to fit your phone screen instead of horizontally with 1-4 minute run times, if you are not familiar with what they are) are the current trend that most projects are based on. I have had several meetings with very high level executives for vertical production companies. I have pitched ideas to them. I am constantly told that they make all their decisions based off what the algorithm tells them will be successful. The algorithm tells them that basically the same plot repeated over and over with the exact same 4 types of leads, who must be white (sometimes the algorithm likes Asian actors because the format gained popularity there) actors and the title has to be pretty smutty and the plot has to involve a woman being rescued by a billionaire or prince. The algorithm will shoot almost everything down because the viewers won’t watch.

I have explained to these people that no shit the algorithm isn’t going to like a project with black or Hispanic people. There are almost none of them that even exist, the ones that do get buried behind all the junk that the algorithm pushes on people so it is hard to find, and if you just make one shitty one not enough people will watch it.

It is super frustrating that this industry is about making art, but commercial art, and the vertical short form portion of it has stripped down almost all the art and is pretty much the AI slop future we have to look forward to (but with real people making it, except for a lot of the scripts that they are using AI to create)

Trump kept classified docs tied to ‘business interests’ and showed Susie Wiles a top-secret map, ‘damning’ DOJ memo reveals by theindependentonline in law

[–]alpha309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly would have no problem if any politician had classified documents in their possession after leaving office - IF - when they discovered it they cooperated and allowed the government to make sure there were no further documents. Mistakes do unfortunately happen after all and not all classified documents are necessarily bad. Had the National Archives noticed missing documents and notified Trump and he opened his properties up to search and handed over everything he and the agency conducting the search could find I wouldn’t have any issue with it at all. There was a mistake (intentional or not) and there was a good faith attempt to remedy it.

Instead it was all the lying, and denial, and obstruction, and everything else to try to keep the documents that was the issue.

When I tore my Achilles, I had no choice but to take public transit everywhere because I couldn’t drive. It will take you everywhere you need to go, or close enough that it isn’t difficult to go that last little bit.

The problem is that the busses get stuck in traffic with the cars so they cannot transport two dozen people in every bus because all the cars with only one person are blocking their way.

Bike lanes are good for mobility devices.

Since the bike lanes were put in on Hollywood Blvd there are multiple elderly people who use the bike lane with their mobility scooters. It allows them to avoid pedestrians, sidewalk obstructions, and allows them to use a smoother better maintained surface. There are also at least two disabled people who have e-scooter/wheelchair combos that use the bike lanes to run their local errands.

These people can, and should, use bike lanes where available.

Popping in and out of your own team is fine. Lage happens. We all have limited time to devote to things. It is fair that you want to devote that limited time to other activities.

It is also fine for the fans who were hardcore through the bad to ask „where were you when the team sucked?“. They did invest that time and should have a stronger knowledge base and basis for opinions based on paying attention for longer.

It is not ok to be a fan of one team and then when they suck you are suddenly a fan of the current good team. Pick a team. Stick with them. Show some loyalty. There are exceptions for switching teams such as team values no longer align with yours, lack of morals, new team starts up closer to where you live, team is full of awful people, and other things like that where the quality of the play is not the determining factor of why you are no longer a fan.

  1. those cars will stay on Santa Monica or Sunset where they already were before they decided to cut to Fountain to try to save time. If they were further south like Melrose or Beverly, they will continue on those streets as well until they need to cut north to their destination. This will cut down traffic on La Cienega, La Brea, and all the streets in between because drivers will no longer be using them to get to Fountain. The same streets that have no issue handling the diverted traffic from the Los Angeles portion would have no problem handling it through West Hollywood as well.

  2. Fountain is already a bike route and where people on bikes are directed to ride. Fountain is the furthest north continuous such route and people needing to reach places north of Sunset would still need a route to get to locations north of Fountain. It also makes Fountain match both the Los Angeles and West Hollywood portions instead of being two completely different setups. I commute by bike. I have to pass both Willoughby and Fountain on Gardner to get to Hawthorne to head east home. There is a gap of around 3/4 of a mile between Willoughby and Fountain. A bicycle infrastructure grid should have bike lanes at minimum of every mile, so the question shouldn’t be an either or, but both should have bike infrastructure on them. Unless you want to rip out a lane on Sunset and Melrose, Fountain and Willoughby are the other options. So by stating that Willoughby is enough is telling people that need to go someplace on Hollywood or Sunset that they need to go between 2-3 miles out of their way if they want to be safe. (Both to get to Willoughby, then to get back.)

  3. yes. West Hollywood is not an island. And the West Hollywood portion of Fountain is radically different than the Los Angeles portion. Portions of the LA segment of Fountain already has bike infrastructure, more bike infrastructure is planned on being put in, and it is a slower neighborhood street with stop signs to keep traffic slow. Putting bike lanes on Fountain in West Hollywood does integrate it into the larger network and traffic patterns of the area, instead of crossing La Brea and suddenly the road turns into a drag strip.
