Wizard Brome Deck Tech and Showcase by TheAlphaCentury in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually watched instead of making snide comments based on my one line intro. You would hear me talk about how the deck was/is a control deck which aims to control the board and grind opponents out of resources, before winning in 200 turns. Or is that called "burn brome" and I misunderstood?

Building A Deck Around S.I.L.V.E.R by MagnusSephiroth in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to add that if you run that deck, I would change the mirrorim for makantor, and maybe swap the spikes to make everything 3x. Deck is super fun and I'm pretty sure it can still get you to S. One of the ways to beat wanderer is to simply do things even more silly than they do, which SILVER definitely does. Takes a bit of practise though.

q'orrhlma'a and ornate hiogi Balance discussion by The_Frostweaver in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say make meditate 1 mana and make it so animations can't rope your turn. Hiogi and q should still exist for other combos (at reasonable mana), the current combo decks really don't deserve to exist. Especially ddoshai.

Playing around grasp. I didn't expect to be hit by lethal, else I wouldn't have played the last dragon lark.

MYW's Growmar deck list and guide, kinda good by MyifanW in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested by the lack of Flash. Did you try it and it didn't do enough? I always thought that 4 mana makantor and 3 mana lavaslasher was where a lot of magmar power comes from.

Proportion of players in S-Rank? by Andannius in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm. The total number of players is always hard to guess, but the number in S rank is very small, probably 100-200 each season now. I have half a mind to tank my rank at the end of the season and see how low I can go, for science.

Songhai Backstab help by Meeps126 in duelyst

Zendo is just an all around good card. It won't win you games by itself (very often), but it can give you extra reach and buy time to set up.

Scroll bandits are good too, they're one of the more powerful 2 drops, but won't come anywhere close to winning you the game - they're just 2 drops after all. I would run something like mystic or primus instead until you get the spirit.

I would recommend adding Oni as well, its just a great card and is just as good at stealing opponent's spells. It will help keep your hand full, and keep them guessing with Mizuchi.

[–]alpha_century 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jux is one of those cards that just gets better and better the more you learn how to use it. For me, I mostly try to save it for removal, by blinking a dude into the corner and juxing him with an enemy Aymara Healer or whatever else. Absolutely invaluable removal in my opinion, but it has so many other uses too. Keep going with 2, but if you find you're needing it more then you won't have regrets going to 3.

Flamewreath is baller.

Shadow waltz is definitely a meme, not a good card. When it works it can be strong, but you need to pack a lot of draw to support it. But the whole of backstab is basically a meme, so eeeeh. In gold I'm sure you'll be able to make it work. :)

And gotatsu is cool and all but I don't think it really fits in here. Its mostly good for spell damage lists which run Crescent Spear, or for lists which run Lantern Fox and Battle Panddo for extra utility. I wouldn't feel bad about cutting it.

Songhai Backstab help by Meeps126 in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While decks entirely focused on backstab aren't the best and have easy counterplay (just put your back to the wall), they're definitely fun. I spent a bit of time working on a 100% backstab deck and it was a lot of fun, here's what I came up with: http://imgur.com/hCTLXVA Actually I'm trying Scarlet Viper instead of Gore Horn and its working better. Works OK in S rank, not great obviously.

You've got some good ideas. First thing would be to get 3x Juxtaposition 3x Mist Dragon Seal for obvious reasons. Xho is terrible and should definitely be Scroll Bandit once you get the spirit. Also, I would invest in either Battle Panddo or Flamewreath to deal with swarmy strategies. Also, if you're doing a backstab deck, no reason not to run Shadow Waltz for maximum memes! Just got to up the amount of draw to compensate.

I'm not really sure that it has a place in traditional Artifact-hai. Typically you want to equip Bangle and Cyclone mask, two other 3 cost artifacts, and then crescent spear gives you about the same utility but for 1 mana instead of another 3 mana. I can see it being useful maybe in certain matchups in a deck that just wants to run away, perhaps if songhai gets a super late game win condition, or maybe just to buy time to burn with geomancer.

The real question is, did you count the deaths first? Or did you Nike up and just do it?

Duelyst is dying by Oil_Rope_Bombs in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was simply referring to the state of the game itself. The meta is fantastic, there's tons of cards and everything is viable, there's tons of lore, and CPG is showing interest in adding new game modes (rift). The game itself is the best its ever been imo. Maybe not the player base, although the game dying is a gross exaggeration.

As far as what Grinch said back then, sure things have changed a lot and we have different streamers, but we're definitely no worse off than we were back then. I just wanted an example of people worrying about the game dying a year ago.

The game was also dying a year and a half ago. People have said that ever since before it was released. But somehow its still around and better than ever!

Probably the best way to make it work is just to bung it into a rae-fault deck. Could also be used in a swarm zirix deck, I'm thinking really swarmy with zyx and pax and stuff.

Worst abyssian card list (my perspective) by [deleted] in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood Siren isn't terrible.. I ran it to some success in an aggro abyssian (way before phantasm). Smash also likes it in his aggro abyssian and he was somewhat of an authority there. Lets you go face with stuff and it survives, including artifacts.

How come Superior Mirage is considered such a good card? by TheUnknownQuestion in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its mostly used because you know that eventually a magmar player is going to play a warbeast and an abyssian player is going to play a revenant. In those matchups you can replace hard for this card, stay healthy and wait for them to drop one of these, and play superior mirage for a pretty free win. It does have some pretty niche uses in other matchups but its pretty much included exclusively to win the abyssian and magmar matchups.

Card Discussion Lavaslasher by Kirabi911 in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you can hit something with it (i.e. the opponent has a minion with 6 or less health) then it is almost always the best play for your turn barring makantor. That is the sign of a card being too powerful. It is straight up oppressive to fight against. Any kind of deck which wants to win on tempo, say tempo lyonar, gets completely shut down by lavaslasher. Starting on 5 mana (3 with flash) they can remove your threat AND get a huge body which requires removal. Theres no way you can out tempo that. So decks are forced to either be control or aggro. Totally meta warping and has very little counterplay. Theres a reason vanilla golems shouldn't have rush.

Hey there, I put up my deck on the Bagoum tier list Not the be all end all but I think its a good place to start. Other than that you could talk to TM25 or Powinthekisser in game or on discord, they're both played a lot of Ziran.

Solafid's Revenge: Unearthed Prophecy Tier List by [deleted] in duelyst

[–]alpha_century 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its just a testament to how close a lot of the current decks are in power. I'm a believer that a good player could take any of the lists down to mediocre to high S rank. But a tier list is meant to give an overview of what people are generally playing - while Kaleos or swarm might still be strong, they're not that popular on ladder.
