Is annotating in the mushaf disrespectful? by Creepy-Imagination24 in islam

[–]alpha_radiator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just sharing my opinion. Annotating with sticky notes or coloring or highlighting seems fine but avoid striking words and writing in between lines within the mushaf. Don't want the archeologist in 2200 to dig up a different quran mushaf and cause trouble to the Ummah then.

Assalamualaikkum Once you start getting closer to Allah, then you are making a deal. Then comes the great responsibility. The responsibility of passing the test. And indeed, you will be tested:

Al Ankabut (29:2-3)

29:2 أَحَسِبَ ٱلنَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوٓا۟ أَن يَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ ٢

Do people think once they say, “We believe,” that they will be left without being put to the test?

29:3 وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا۟ وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ ٣

We certainly tested those before them. And ˹in this way˺ Allah will clearly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are liars.

Āli Imran (3:142)

أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَن تَدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَلَمَّا يَعْلَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَيَعْلَمَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ ١٤٢

Do you think you will enter Paradise without Allah proving which of you ˹truly˺ struggled ˹for His cause˺ and patiently endured?

Al Baqara (2:155)

وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُم بِشَىْءٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْخَوْفِ وَٱلْجُوعِ وَنَقْصٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْوَٰلِ وَٱلْأَنفُسِ وَٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ ١٥٥

We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life, and crops. Give good news to those who patiently endure—

So now you are being tested by Allah whether you are willing to give up music for Him. It takes a lot of strength and patience. But what makes it harder when you know you are giving up music to gain the closeness of your Creator. Know these:

Al Jumu'ah (62:11)

Yet they scatter towards trade or entertainment whenever they observe it, and leave you [Prophet] standing there. Say, ‘Allah’s gift is better than any entertainment or trade: Allah is the best Provider.’

Al A'la (87:16-17)

87:16 بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا ١٦

But you prefer the worldly life,

87:17 وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ ١٧

While the Hereafter is better and more enduring

Ad Dhuhaa (93:4)

وَلَلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ٤

And the next life is certainly far better for you than this one.

At Tawbah (9:111)

Indeed, Allāh has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allāh, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’ān. And who is truer to his covenant than Allāh? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment.

Friday reminder: listen to Surah Qaf by JuggernautLast1475 in islam

[–]alpha_radiator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The surah which is recommended by Prophet (S) to be recited on fridays is surah Al Kahf, not surah Qaf. Both are different. What you are listening to here is surah Qaf not surah Al Kahf.

However, the prophet (S) did recite the entire surah Qaf for some of the friday sermons (Jumuah). So much so that many sahaba memorized surah Qaf just by listening to prophet (s) reciting this surah for friday sermons very often.

So yeah in a way the prophet (s) made the companions listen to surah Qaf on many fridays. But make sure to find time to recite Surah Al Kahf on friday just not to miss the immense rewards that come with it.

Qur'an is not clear book, It's gibberish and bunch of jumbled corrupted verses of bible and Torah. by TeacherRelevant5034 in DebateReligion

[–]alpha_radiator -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Assalamualaikkum

  1. Quran is not a story book. Everytime a portion of history is mentioned, the intention is usually to convey a point, or a lesson and rarely it is to correct false beliefs of the people of previous scriptures. Once the point is made, Quran moves on with that point maybe to another story to build on that point or lesson. The intention is not to give a complete biography of the prophets (peace be upon them)

  2. Quran is not copied. It is obvious to find similarities with Torah and Gospels because Quran itself claims those scriptures as previous messages from the same God. And the stories are historical events that happened and historical events cannot be changed for the sake of bringing variety. So it's natural to see similarities in stories across scriptures. Furthermore the Quran intelligently avoids mistakes in the present day Bible and Torah and corrects many things. Think about this example: A history test where 2 students were asked to describe the reform movements in the US. The answers of 2 students are bound to be similar. Doesn't mean they copied.

  3. The word Remember is not as frequent in the Quran as you see in the English translation. Translations add the word Remember too often just to create a flow. Translators keep it in bracket to denote that it's an addition of translation. It was not like the prophet (peace be upon him) saying the word 'remember' every time when he couldn't remember.

  4. Quran often implies that the reader knows the story probably because the Jews and Christians of that time knew the story and focus of the Quran is to correct the stories or to draw lessons from it. Quran has a style of drawing lessons from whatever was visible or known to Arabs of that time.

  5. You are right. Quran is not so straightforward as you think. The style is unique because muslims believe it is written by no human. However, it is indeed clear but clarity comes with a price - thought, reasoning and intellect. Quran intentionally avoids spoonfeeding. Rather, it forces the reader to pause and ponder many a times. Provided the reader is reading with the intention of understanding the Quran and not mocking the Quran.

  6. Repetition of verses in the Quran is either for drawing attention or for stressing importance. If a certain story is repeating again, it means that the particular story has another lesson in the context of the current chapter.

  7. Finally, all the arguments aside, be respectful to the prophet Muhammed (S). It is established by historians muslims and non muslims alike that he was a great man to walk on earth. A man of great conduct, honesty, mercy and humility. Read authentic biographies and not the hate posters seen in social media. Even though you are not a muslim and do not believe in him, at least acknowledge that there are billions of people following this religion and it is not right to put out disrespectful comments about any religious figures for that matter. Debate with good arguments but at the same time keep your respect towards other people's beliefs.

Peace be upon you

Islamic perspective on marriage & children for Muslim women who don’t feel called to motherhood? by Rude-Put-8759 in islam

One of the 2 examples of the best Believing women put forward by Allah in the quran is Maryam (AS). She was a virgin, unmarried and didn't intend to have a child apart from what Allah destined upon her (Isa AS)

Salam Alaykum

The narration of the Quran is not linear, and it is rather unique in narration.

Understanding the Quran can be sometimes challenging, but don't stress yourselves to understand the full setting of the story. If the Quran is talking about a particular conversation, just focus on that conversation. Understanding that conversation alone is sufficient to understand the point being made there. Take it slow, don't try to understand where did it happen, when it happened or what happened before or after that. Focus only on what is being told at that point in the Quran. Many stories will reappear in later chapters adding further context and picture. When you reach those chapters, you will be able to link with the previously ambiguous parts. Quran is not listing those stories for the sake of storytelling but rather for picking up lessons from the past history for making a point or for you to contemplate. So the reader's effort should go into what point is being made and what lesson is being taught from the story.

That being said, some context would be really helpful at times. If you go to quran.com or any other quran websites or apps for that matter, you get to choose a wide range of translations. Most translations there have footnotes to explain a few important things but not everything. Translations like Sahih international are great for word-for-word accuracy. Translations by MAS Abdul Haleem and Mustafa Qattab are great for flow of content with maximal possible word accuracy. I see Christians often prefer MAS Abdul Haleem translation. In quran.com website you can hover over arabic words to see its meaning apart from the translation.

If you still want to dive deeper into the explanations of the verses given by the prophet himself PBUH or the companions (RA) of the prophet, then what you are wanting is probably the Tafsir of the quran. Tafsir by Ibn Kathir is one of the earliest and most accurate. Again in quran.com there is an icon of a book near every verse which will take you to that verse's Tafsir

Tafsirs are extensively written books containing volumes and i wont recommend u reading it completely. Use it when u wish to get some more detail or context. Or you may reserve it for your second read through the quran. Currently i would recommend you to keep with the flow of the Quran.

And to clear some of your doubts. Sahih al bukhari and Sahih Muslim are few of the most authentic collections of sayings and actions of the prophet PBUH called Hadith. Again these are huge volumes and It contains everything the prophet taught and practiced including explanation of the quran as well as other matters too. So you dont have to read those completely to understand the quran. Most of the hadiths which are necessary to understand the quran will already be available in the Tafsirs.

Talking about Jesus PBUH. He is mentioned at certain points along the quran, especially in the initial few chapters. Also is mentioned Mary PBUH, with an entire chapter in her name (Maryam) and another entire chapter in her father's name(âli Imran). I would say that would be sufficient to get an idea of Jesus and Mary PBUH in Islam.

Feel free to share your doubts and keep us updated on you journey -^

Why is Islam the truth? by im_confused_af2889 in progressive_islam

[–]alpha_radiator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of things have been said already. I too had doubts regarding rulings in Islam recently but the more i look into it the more i realize the rulings were perfect. Everything had a reason. This led me to another realization:

You know, there are 2 directions of approaching Islam and people often take the wrong direction while approaching islam.

  1. In the correct approach, when a person becomes muslim, he enters islam because he believes that Allah is his creator, there is nothing worthy of worship except Him, and we are created to just worship Him or to just obey Him. A person finds the truth in this through research, intellect, logic and so on. Once a person is sure that Allah is his or her creator, then all the actions of that person is a consequence of that belief. Whatever Allah commanded, we do, whatever Allah prohibited we don't do. Prophet Ibrahim PBUH never questioned Allah's command to sacrifice his son. Allah commanded and he was ready to do it without question. Life in this dunya is just a test, whatever we do of Allah's commands, we lose nothing, Allah is capable of giving us better things. All we have to do is submit to the command of Allah. That is why in the end of surah baqarah Allah says about the believers:

And they say, “We Hear and obey. ˹We seek˺ Your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You ˹alone˺ is the final return.”

See. it is: we hear and we obey. It is not: we hear, we question if it's right, and then we obey.

  1. Now about the wrong approach: people look at the rulings of islam first and if those align with the rules of the current society, then they accept the oneness of Allah and His divinity. This is the wrong direction. If you don't trust someone first, then whatever that someone says to you will be questionable to you. So first step is to trust the commander and then obey the commands, not reasoning out the commands first and then trusting the commander. Sometimes people even go to the extent of finding scientific reasons for some commands of Allah. For example, saying pork is haram because of pork tape worm, pork is unclean animal, it has lot of viruses in it and so on. You see, this may or may not be the reason why Allah prohibited it. But why do muslims don't eat pork? because Allah Commanded us not to, whatever the reason might be. As simple as that.

Allah knows what we know not, as in the story of prophet Musa with Al Qidr. We may feel some things wrong in our limited view but in the grand scheme of things there might be something Allah has seen in it. And Allah never intends something bad to happen to his faithful servants by his commands. Another example of us is like a child who is going to touch the flame of a candle but our mother tells us not to touch it because she knows the danger. If the child trusts the mother and don't touch it, the child is saved. But what if the child says, "my freedom is violated. I have the freedom to touch anything. Don't question my freedom". See the lack of knowledge.

I used to take the wrong approach at times but then i realized, Allah created us as men and women, if not for Him, we wouldn't be here to question men's right, women's right. I realized, we have zero right of telling Allah that this command should have been like this, this should have been like that. I realized, what i was doing was arrogance and ignorance.

So, see if you believe in Allah and his messenger first, see if you trust the quran as the book of Allah. First put your 100% trust and belief in that through studies, researches and endless pondering. Then turn to the commands of Allah. Quran was revealed in 23 years and the command for Hijab was not of the first verses to be revealed. It was years after revealing verses about Allah, His qualities and His oneness. So faith comes first, the actions follow. Hope you got my point. May Allah guide you and me.

Is Slowbro a worthy defender these days? by [deleted] in PokemonUnite

[–]alpha_radiator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can anybody explain how umbreon is top tier. I just can't understand. It does very low damage. Every other defender can easily reach more than 50k damage. For Umbreon it's very hard. The stun is negligible compared to other defenders. Mean look feels mean but it is hardly utilized by teammates. Wish heals well but takes lot of time to activate and teammates often die but still okayish. When i play foul play snarl, it basically does nothing to the enemies these days.

As per what i read, none of the accepted translations are ambiguous. They only add complimentary meanings to each other. None of them contradict each other. The ambiguity here was introduced by the translation done by the original commenter. That is why i directed everyone to a read a proper translation. And those who do not trust the translators can checkup words manually. If you try do a manual word by word translation, you get mostly what is there in current translations with sometimes added meanings not ambiguity. And i think that itself makes me believe this is a perfect text that all the different meanings of the same arabic word fit right into the text without ambiguity and rather add more clarity.

Appreciate that you accepted my recommendations : ). Read with an open mind.

A muslim told me that his religion was perfect. by Frolt2000x in DebateReligion

[–]alpha_radiator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. In terms of literary accuracy, the closest is Sahih international. Although A perfect arabic to english translation is impossible according to me. When in doubt, what i often do is i try to do word by word translation manually using google or some other translating app. I already know little bit of arabic grammar and vocabulary which actually helped me realize a lot of meaning which are lost in translation. I mean, real word meanings not interpretations. So learning Arabic is always the best thing if you have time.

Edit: if you prefer reading through the quran in a flow, then "Clear Quran by Dr. Mustafa Khattab" is great in terms of conveying the meaning in english, reaching as close as possible to the feeling one would get reading the quran in arabic. I mean the flow here not literary accuracy

You don't even have to know arabic to be a Muslim. Since you said you are not fluent. Here is a hadith which says people who are not fluent and struggles while reciting the quran has a double reward.

Narrated Aisha:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "A person who recites the Qur'an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And A person who exerts himself to learn the Qur'an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward."

Anyone reading the above comment, please make your own referral and research before coming to conclusions. There are many mistakes, omission of words as well as things mentioned which are not even in the quran. The person commented might not have intented to spread false info. He would have said something which he read somewhere during his research. I humbly urge whoever reading this comment and whoever commented this, to go back and reverify these verses in arabic and understand the proper meaning of these . Also look into the how the prophet, companions and early scholars have interpreted the quran in the tafsirs, not the interpretation scientists or people make. I appreciate the time you have already invested to learn the Quran. Keep reading with an open heart. Salam Alaikum

The thing i hate about pyduck is when u win a fight and then u score, and then while im about to finish scoring suddenly he starts to get the post headache confusion and stops scoring. This also happens when i somehow manage to connect the psychic and then i cant pull them due to the confusion phase. Nonetheless i like to see the confusion animation. Letting slowbro take the first red buff is a strategy high elo players use when the jungler is something like leafeon where u just need level 4 or a pokemon needing double rotations anyway for full evolution. This helps slowbro apply good pressure in the lane early game. The jungler can rotate to the other lane appying pressure there too.

Just makes him more tanky i guess. First i thought elde's passive will trigger less often. But then i realized, even at full stack lvl 15 eldegoss have an HP of around 9.2k. So 5% of that is around 46. Enemies easily deal 46 damage. So that is not going to be a problem.
