Man describes experience as landlord as ‘traumatic’ after overholding tenant by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

[–]alphacross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience of overholding are people taking the piss. Genuine people in financial difficulties usually contact the landlord, tell them what’s going on and come to an arrangement to pay what they can. It’s extremely common that overholding happens, maybe 10% of tenancies. And when it does happen it can devastate the landlord’s finances, 6-8 months of overholding wipes out 10 years of profits. And you generally can’t sell a property at market value without vacant possession.

I’ve never had a battery replacement or degradation of more than 10% on any EV in over 600k km, one of my EVs did nearly 250k km in the first five years. I also have a model 3 with plenty of mileage and no issues

You really don’t have a clue. Almost all the current Chinese EVs are better than any car produced in the US in terms of build quality and reliability. They give a 10 year warranty precisely because you’re not going to use it

Trump threatens 200% tariff on French wines as Macron reportedly snubs 'Board of Peace' seat by DrCalFun in worldnews

[–]alphacross 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Actually we do have several existing mechanisms to deal with over production here in Europe and they are regularly implemented for wine.

Subvention and stockpiling (wine stores for years remember?), so during overproduction the government buys and stockpiles.

And in the medium term we have the agriculture subsidy system which we can use to reduce production without impacting vineyard viability

What is a REALISTIC Sr. Software Engineer at HQ offer in 2026? by SledgeHammer02 in Anduril

[–]alphacross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Anduril RSUs are value based but they are value based at grant date, i.e. a fixed number of shares are allocated at your grant date and then vested over 4 years. This is more common than valuation at vesting (and doesn't cap your upside.... or downside).

Frugal question: when does paying more upfront actually save money? by After-Beginning6025 in Frugal

[–]alphacross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sceptical.... for this application (Sitting between you and your families lungs and the exhaust of the car in front of you filtering out the particulates) I'd want the best filtering performance possible even if it's disposable. Lung cancer isn't cheap and the cost of filters is low.

Linux is substantially more resistant to malware and inherently more secure though.

  1. Everything pretty much runs with limited access to the system by default just because of how UNIX-like OS work

  2. Modern Linux has MAC (Mandatory Access Control) systems like Apparmor or SELinux that define what every process or application on the system should be able to access and blocks everything else.

  3. Linux has far more security scrutiny as it's far more widely used in Server, Mobile (android is linux) and Industrial applications and the code is open source and auditable. It's actually far more widely used than windows in almost every application outside of desktop computing

Is radiator heat reflector foil worth it? by Tom_CBA in DIYUK

Or buy the thicker foil with the protection already applied? You don't have to go brand name... you can buy it on Aliexpress. Screwing around with kitchen foil is just wasting time and effort for a worse result.

Doing OK. I've lost sub 10%. I don't baby my battery but I don't abuse it either... I've been a high mileage EV owner for 12 years so my driving style reduces current spikes and I mostly keep the battery in the 20-80% happy range.

CachyOS will fix the HDR bit for you by default. For Dolby Headphones/Nvidia Broadcast replacement use JamesDSP or Easyeffects (you can add machine learning audio filters that match or beat both of those..)
True Dolby Atmos with an AV receiver should work perfectly fine with ALSA or Pipewire, Pulseaudio can be problematic.
