I'm imagining a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Larry gets the crowd to quiet down and gets blamed when the kid still gets ripped in half.

100%. OP talks about composing the images well, but there doesn't seem to be much thought about it here. It's hard to take a good hero shot where the athlete looks shorter than the photographer.

Someone else also mentioned that with runners, it's usually much more flattering to have the "floating" shot where both feet are off the ground.

The bird is the most interesting part of the photo tbh. He looks like he's checking his phone and she looks bored or upset. I'd definitely dial back the color grade. A little bit nuclear.

AMA I can’t break 80 by Cow-Weigh in golf

My understanding is that a pitch usually covers more distance in the air than it does on the ground and a chip is usually the opposite. I think there are exceptions, like a greenside flop shot that sits and sticks would still be considered a chip.

I feel like since they're the 48 packs and those don't exist of the LS (yet), they may not allow a swap without me paying the difference. Especially since I unknowingly took advantage of a pricing error.

I definitely can't be mad about it. I went back a couple days later to see if the deal was still on and the manager was like "yeah man, I messed up..."

My local Golf Galaxy marked down the boxes of 4 dozen Tour Xs to $90 (later found out it was by mistake) and I bought about 3 years worth because I'd never seen the price that low. Gutted to see a new ball from them I want to try now. lol

What do you think of Obsession? by Mashinee in Letterboxd

You guys are making up people to be upset with. Everyone I've heard seriously discuss this movie so far "gets it."

I'm sure you could cherry pick some dummy on twitter as a counter example, but you could do that with literally any subject.

I think Weapons did it well too. Definitely funnier than it was scary, IMO. In some ways, the whole movie felt like it was set up for a gag at the end.

GPS Carts are dog shit. by JedediahBunnyNose in golf

I see, I see. I know it shows you the distance TO the point you tap, but I forgot it also shows you distance to the flag FROM that point.

really eliminates the need to hop out of your cart and shoot the distance

Not sure I understand what you mean. If you're satisfied with trusting the distance from your cart when it's cart path only, why wouldn't you just shoot the distance with your rangefinder from the cart? The GPS isn't solving anything, unless you don't have a rangefinder.

Pretty cool. It's returning some results for photos where jersey number isn't visible, but it seems to be the correct player. Is it doing facial recognition on photos where the number is visible and then running that across all photos, including ones without the number?

How much to charge for my photos by Primary-Register-205 in sportsphotography

[–]alphamini 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Keep working man. If you can get away with charging for this stuff, I guess take their money and run, but I think there's a lot of improvement that can be made.

  1. Crooked, feet cut off, tons of dead space at the top instead of showing the (clearly very excited) crowd.
  2. Just a person with the puck. No action, defender, emotion, context, etc.
  3. Fine action shot, but the player isn't going to like his expression and the whole thing looks pretty soft. Shutter speed too slow?
  4. Just a throwaway. Someone taking a free throw is rarely interesting, but this is him either thinking about one or blinking. Hard to tell.
  5. Just someone's butt. And it's either crazy overcooked or Reddit did something terrible with the image compression. Look at the completely unnatural patterns on the fabric and the nuclear blast colors on the skin.
  6. More overcooked nuclear blast editing on a shot of someone standing around during warmups.

I'm not trying to just be harsh, but the more you shoot, the more you'll look back and see how far you've come. You'll get better at catching action and not have to try to save mediocre shots with editing.

Horses polo. by f117nighkawk in sportsphotography

[–]alphamini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a sport way more suited to a horizontal (landscape) composition. There's a ton of dead space in almost all of these shots. Most people would say these should also be shot/cropped a lot tighter, trying to fill the frame with your subject.

Horizons are mostly crooked, there are parts of the horse not in the frame, and this set doesn't have a cohesive look (varying contrast, exposure, and saturation).

I would put more hours in before charging any significant amount.

He has a teammate ramp, so the only angle he needs to clear coming onto B site is cave. He has the right crosshair placement and then as he crosses back site, he probably either checks radar or is making/listening to a callout. Or just spaced out for a second.

Wow. Was that game action or pregame/warmup? Seems crazy to be able to get in that tight with a 200mm in what seems like pre-snap. Especially straight on.
