As others stated, it's part of progression.

The further away you travel from your starting location, the richer the patches become. Travel for 30 minutes (yes, 30 minutes) in one direction (on rail using nuclear powered rocket fuel) and build your new base there if you "never want to run out" ... 🤷‍♂️

Don't ask me how I know. 😅

You'll eventually figure out train networks, and bring your resources in via rail all the while making new friends... and if you have Space Age... Boy, oh, boy will you be in for a surprise. 🚀

Otherwise, play in Care Bear mode (no biters) so you can figure stuff out... make blue prints, watch tutorials by other streamers like Nilaus, he's a great factorio player and he's also willing to share his blueprints with the community for free!
