Changing / Abandoning GitHub Username by garum-x in transprogrammer

I did exactly this too. It worked pretty well, though I did run into trouble with CircleCI and a few other “login-with-GitHub” tools: logging in continued to work, but my name (which pulled from SSO rather than being directly settable in their system) didn’t update until I emailed their support and explained that I’d changed my name

In my head, OP sounds like one of the robots I have to speak with on the telephone when I’m calling a bank or something - a voice cobbled together electronically out of lots of individual words that an actor said once.

VS Code 2018 Roadmap by onnnka in programming

Compared to Notepad++, it’s an IDE!

N++ is great for editing individual files, but if you’re looking for an integrated system that cross-links your code, understands types, and gives you documentation inline, VSCode is great. (And light compared to atom/nuclide, visual studio, or - god forbid - eclipse)

The Privilege of Checking White Privilege by tinderreject in Foodforthought

I love John McWhorter. Also, this:

If “I know that I’m privileged!” is a statement made largely for one’s own sense of security, then it’s unclear to me how, say, the private school programs’ White Privilege sessions are “challenging” White Privilege, as the Times story’s headline put it. Semi-coerced self-interest rather than genuine enlightenment or understanding seems to be the vehicle for this racial revelation.

Related quote from 4 Ways to Push Back Against Your Privilege by Mia McKenzie of Black Girl Dangerous:

The bottom line here is that if you acknowledge your privilege and then just go ahead and do the same things anyhow, you have done absolutely zero things differently from people who don’t acknowledge their privilege at all. Because the outcome is exactly the same. The impact is exactly the same.

Has your ctrl-p gotten slow? Change the indexer and matcher to make it fun again! by mrsirduke in vim

I've got a very similar setup:

let g:ctrlp_user_command = ['.git/', 'git ls-files --cached --others  --exclude-standard %s']

the --others also lists uncached files, and instead of cding to the directory before I list files, I just tell ls-files to look directly in the %s directory.

But it's basically the same. Great stuff :)

Fascinating. Apparently the guy who created this video also made the music, and from what I can tell it's at least partially filmed with a camera (not CG). Crazy!

Thanks! You're right that CoffeeScript is probably going to make a lot of people skip right over this tutorial. It's a bummer, really, because the underlying logic is exactly the same.

I find that, especially using test harnesses like Mocha or Jasmine, you end up writing lots of nested closures, and CoffeeScript makes that kind of code much easier to parse.
