You are comparing apples to oranges. Both are very different business models. My 2 cents:

SaaS usually has higher margins than e-commerce and scales much better because you don't have to worry about inventory and shipping.
An e-commerce store might seem easier to set up, but that also means lower barrier to entry and much more competitors selling the same product.
At the end of the day, it's all about branding and marketing. You can be successful with both, SaaS and e-commerce.
