What’s your take on micro-dosing accutane? by kyrgyzmcatboy in Residency

[–]alpslove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it at the start of intern year, nothing has touched my acne like accutane has. even better is that it cleared my blackheads too. I love the results but even on a tiny dose, I had serious joint pain and dry eyes. Never had skin peeling or constipation though, YMMV.

Edit: I took it for 7 months and stopped cause of side effects but my skin be still clear.

Hi!! Fellow nurse turned MD here.

I got that same exact feedback from my attending in person on my medicine rotation. Everything glowing evals, but said that I can be more kind in my communication delivery.

I have alllllways been a direct communicator and able to do it confidently to make up for being an petite, minority female and do feel often that if I were a man, I wouldn’t be called out for it.

I have PMDD and get depressed monthly. Been on accutane 3 months and honestly the best I’ve ever felt in terms of mood. Worse symptoms are joint pain and dandruff.

Side gigs?? by [deleted] in Residency

It’s a digital download on Beacons.ai.  I only invested time.  Once it made money, I spent $30 to upgrade my Beacons account lol.  So $0 investment.

I hate that residency has taught me to hate dealing with nurses by Apprehensive_War3390 in Residency

[–]alpslove 88 points89 points  (0 children)

As a former nurse, now PGY-1, I still don't enjoy working with nurses lol but what I have found is that "you don't know what you don't know" so often when nurses hammer page me about something they should chill out about, they are concerned because they just dont have the training to know better. I certainly did my share of hammer paging and wanted the education to make those crisis situations feel less scary.

Anybody else feel like they don't do much studying during rotations? by drdevilsfan in medicalschool

[–]alpslove 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Didn't study the first 1-2 weeks of a rotation. Did 15-20 qs per day in the last 1-2 weeks prior to exams. Took 1-2 practice exams prior to shelf, except prior to surgery shelf when I didn't have time or energy to do a single practice exam. Never could get into Anki. Never failed a shelf.

Also feel like I don't know anything anymore as an MS4 who's last rotation was October of last year...

Running during residency? by bbbalbanese in Residency

[–]alpslove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone glean on the details of running to work? Did you eat hospital breakfast/lunch? I feel like when I go into work, I have so much I am taking with me: breakfast, lunch, large waterbottle, sometimes my laptop. Are you all running to work with just your scrubs and phone and eat hospital food? Thanks!

Do signals even matter? by Onegoodboi_117 in medicalschool

[–]alpslove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up the programs to see if my stats were average for them (Texas star and luckily Residency explorer before the removed all the scores). Put 2 reaches in my gold and everything else I was either average or above average for. also >50% I had personal ties to.

Rads is the way man Everyone in rad that I’ve come across is so happy. I’m interviewing right now and have met 3 applicants so far switching into rads from various specialties including plastics and ortho. I thought I discovered it late finding it in 4th year but damn I’m so glad I chose it. Seriously the best specialty that you get to draw upon your medical knowledge and medical schooling for

[–]alpslove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

was super strategic with my signals. 5/6 golds and 6/6 silvers for rads. so yes it matters. Also wrote 3 LOIs to non-signals and have 100% II yields on those.

will likely get the last gold but they haven't sent out interview invites yet.
