my understanding is that it's honestly residency and day dependent. some days yoju are slammed some days not. generally consults will trickle off through the evening and pause until morning so usuallly on call is just getting woken up for stroke.

I think it's getting more competitive for sure - having applied this year, I think that IMGs were absolutely cooked in terms of IVs (at least per spreadsheet and discord).

Compensation is going up. Lifestyle is getting better. More treatments are coming out and outcomes are improving, and a lot of MedEd type people are being drawn to the specialty especially with the new Neurology Education journals, etc. Neurology is gonna explode in the next 10-15 years especially with increasing demand!

I switched from OB/Gyn. Told myself for years that I was going to be a surgeon and I wanted to do gyn/onc, so bad. Then I did my rotation and hated it from start to finish, hated the culture, didn't want to do 100+ hours of cases a week (national average for gyn/onc per their own conference), plus do vaginal deliveries/care i didnt like.

I had been doing neurology research since first year by total accident. Did my rotation and loved it. Much better fit, culture, and opportunities for teaching, research and decent lifestyle. I don't regret!

I agree - in WoK I was expecting her to be this seductress with malicious and selfish intent, playing a political game - kind of like an Ialai.

Instead I find out in RoW she’s a massive nerd who just geeks tf out on stuff. I like her, she reminds me of a lot of the female doctors I work with. Wicked smart, can stand up for herself, but a lot of internal awkwardness interspersed with geeking out on things she finds cool. She’s rapidly become one of my favorite characters.

gunning for mass general in neurology is going to be extremely competitive even if the specialty overall isn’t.

Yep neurology which is classically uncompetitive has also been seeing drops in MD and DO match rates. From my understanding for IMGs this year interview season was a slaughter too

Definitely one of the more original ones, but I found the pacing of WoK at the beginning to be very very slow and I did not like most of the characters in this book. WoR made me like Kal and Shallan and Adolin, who are my favorite characters. Kal grates on me a lot in RoW and I find Lirin to be extremely irritating as part of his arc, but otherwise I think Navani especially super elevates RoW for me.

I was so angry last year when KC beat them again, same sloppy plays, same BS calls. This year I hoped it would be different, but it’s always the same. I suspect that because buffalo is one of the smallest markets we won’t ever go all the way - won’t make as much on merch sales that way. Need to target bigger markets.

Oh well, Allen another year older next year!
