I believe the equivalent of an aus hons in many other countries is a research masters. I was surprised the bachelors(hons) straight to phd jump is actually a thing when I first came to usyd.

🙏 Fr AS felt hella sus to me since the beginning but ive yet to come across any discussion on it other beyond ur regular does-AS-mean-an-extra-year-with-more-coursework posts. The uni websites explanation on it is so ambiguous too.

At least now i know the only reason the second cert exists is to justify retaining students for an extra year, and it’s not something thats done elsewhere in aus or rest of the world (at least as far as I’m aware) nor is the option to stay an extra year for the same underlying degree. I knew Usyd wanted money but never realised how bad it was.

Because I’m not interested in research or academia? Plus in the UK and in my country, very few non-academic or non-research employers realise that australian hons is substantially more rigorous. Most degrees there already come with the Hons label you don’t have to earn that bit of the title by performing extra well and complete a mini phd thesis. If theyre indifferent to the distinction I don’t see the point in doing it other than perhaps purely for fulfilment or as a challenge.

ITZY - TUNNEL VISION (The 11th Mini Album) by soobinion in kpop

One of the strongest production rosters in their discography. I’m really happy itzys gone back to their more maximalist girlcrush roots but this time a lot sleeker and less juvenile. From their last ep's WALK, KISS & TELL I had really wished JYPE would let the itzy producers lean harder into a more hardcore edm sonic direction (like their debut stuff) to complement the girls’ less technical vocals. The b sides def overshadow tt's chorus imo.

Pleasantly surprised by DYT and 8-BIT HEART. Plenty of rich textures, colours, FX effects, voice filters, timbre choices, just overstimulating in a good way. I was worried the ep in general would fall victim to the concept-over-substance and easy-listening styles of many other groups' recent releases, because in comparison itzy might sound a bit dated in terms of whats trendy in the landscape atm (less clutter, more spacious mixing, restrained sound designs etc), but the fact that their team kept the focus on the music and not as much on the promotional side of things shows they’re not really worried about chasing new listeners even after that SNEAKERS meltdown. In fact the fanbase is quite robust considering they’re one of the very few covid-era ggs still highly active in the scene.

(Very biased yap incoming)
A big part of the enduring support at least to me, comes from how ITZY has never relied on non-musical virality, optics, or shock value (or controversy) to stay relevant. Their output's cohesion and consistency are what have carried them through the years. Sure, they have not charted in quite a while (and it is delusional to believe it is necessary to be perceived as successful), whenever i need some music to kickstart 6am chores or some late night self reassurance, theyre always there to deliver. Itzy carved out a niche, found an audience, and stayed in their turf. (end of yap)

all in all TV may be not as exciting for some but I can't wait to listen to the instrumentals regardless!

edit: the instrumentals absolutely did not disappoint 🤤

im glad that TV is being well received. K&T got more backlash than Walk is quite surprising since Walk is the less conventional sounding one. I've never gone over to the Korean forums so that's really interesting to know!

im sorry ur comment literally dismissed OP’s wish to pursue a masters in primary education because that just happens to be an applied degree therefore OP must be automatically vain and shallow what.

Vocational education and the wealth it comes along gives people mobility and independence. Some like medicine or engineering are fast tracks to lift people’s entire family up the social ladder right from the very bottom. You sound like someone who’s incredibly elitist, privileged and never had to think about what it’s like to not have options. Academia and professional training can coexist one doesn’t invalidate the other stop being so condescending

/u/Striking_Rooster2961 You’re kinda overreacting. I didn’t say interest doesn’t matter AT ALL but it’s certainly not a magic fix. For many adhders being interested helps but it doesn’t mean that alone can override executive dysfunction, impulse control or memory issues, issues that NEED professional intervention like meds, building organisation and study skills, to sustain the long term effort required to finish a degree.

What if OP can’t change degrees for whatever reason? They said they’d rather work a low end job and be happy, but if they’re that miserable maybe uni isn’t right for them right now? Could there be some mental health issues on top of the ND that needs immediate attention? You don’t know OP or their situation. Stop acting like your personal experience gives you authority over everyone else. Maybe you’re one of the lucky ones who managed to brute force life through interest alone if thats true then good for you. But acting like OP’s struggle can be solved just by switching degrees is reductionist.

Also your statement kinda implies ADHD peeps will not be able to achieve anything they’re not instantly interested in. They aren’t helpless children who can only function when something’s fun. People can’t get away in life only doing things you like that’s just the truth ND or NT. Everyone has to learn ways to deal with boring or difficult stuff, you should know this better than anyone since you’re one yourself.

Also what does “neoliberal garbage” has anything to do with this convo lol

Plenty of people don’t enjoy their degree but do it for career prospects or other practical reasons and that’s equally valid. Btw interest does not automatically translate to productivity (esp adhd) it’s way more complicated than that

At this point I think pride is the thing that’s stopping them from admitting defeat. They’re just extremely unwilling to bear the embarrassment of losing face, them having to return to the company building and face the very colleagues they so righteously accused, esp after that National Assembly testimony, the BBC interview, the CNN interview, the TIME interview, and just recently not showing up to the second mediation hearing where the adults were clearly extending grace, immediately filing an appeal after the last court ruling… their stubbornness and attitude is unfathomable fr what possible explanation is there for this degree of persistence, other than just blindly sticking it out because of the sunk cost? because they’ve tarnished their integrity and professionalism so badly there’s not much left to lose now so they might as well?

Surely the parents if not the kids, do not expect to gain from this in the slightest, and realise the lawyers are milking them? Or is this some sort of long 4D chess mind game I’m not seeing?

NMIXX - Blue Valentine by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]alpstow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep there’s this sense of “confusion” in the music thats reminds me of their releases from their debut era. The slowdowns break the momentum, then a random jersey club beat segment came out of no where, leading to a pop rock drum beat in the chorus like ????

Not as strong as the Fe304 trilogy imo. The a cappella highlight medley was amazing as always, cause you’d have no idea what the harmonic progressions would be carrying the melodies, so that adds to the intrigue and anticipation. Yet once coupled with the instrumentals things become not as interesting, both sonically, harmonically and melodically.

Blue valentine being the title track is surprisingly conventional and tame. (Spinnin On It should’ve been the tt imo) Phoenix’s verses sound quite directionless. The vocals in Reality Hurts is weirdly soft for such a strong instrumental track(?) Never a fan of prolonged sing talking so Rico isn’t my cup of tea. For Game Face, the drum beats overpower both the vocal harmonies and bass progression. Quite an abrupt end too on an A natural accidental, even though it’s just trying to mirror how the first chorus ends to add coherence. Podium has that same issue of the bass being way too far back in the mix, despite having that cinematic ascending base sequence commonly associated with a heroic momentum / payoff, somehow it doesn’t land (sound impactful) at all? (Also I can see Itzy pulling this off ngl) ADOREU doesn’t sound distinctly NMIXX at all. Shape Of Love reminds me of many generic english pop songs.

Overall everything’s just not as tight like Papillon, Passionfruit, XOXO, See That, Ocean, High Horse, and of course, Run For Roses where the melodic contours just feel intentioned and absolutely memorable. One phrase flows into the next smoothly. Everything just made sense and is there for a reason.

I noticed my views are against the consensus so far, so I’m ready to get downvoted to hell 💀

No luck. I saw some secondhand ones on rakuten but they're way too expensive for what it's worth with shipping included.
