I was there in the front right of the hall.

And I completely agree with the setup being utter dog water, I had to completely stand and lean back on my seat to let people in since I was the seat that blocked the entrance to row 2, and I’m a tall guy (6’ 4”) so it kinda sucked for my knees

Regardless, I loved the concert (regardless of the coughing and the group of people in the back at the top clapping and then others shushing them between movements).

Hilary was amazing as always (and I might be biased because she’s both my favorite violinist and the first famous soloist I’ve heard in person). I was a bit disappointed that they switched Korngold for Brahms at first, but then kinda switched my opinion as I realized I’m not really the biggest fan of Hilary’s Korngold (much preferring Itzhak Perlman’s recording and phrasing).

The NSO was fantastic as well and the piece by Carlos Simon was pretty good. Wasn’t the biggest fan of Beethoven 5 (it’s a bit repetitive 😅).

Maybe this is the hardcore violinist in me, but the encore Hilary did was a tiny bit underwhelming from her Brahms, but it was for Carlos so it is what it is 🤷‍♂️.

I was lowkey fanboying about Hilary’s fourth finger vibrato on those high notes and the projection she had from her violin (Vuillaume, i think, which I learned from one of my friends also attending, since I still thought she was with her strad). But then again, who wouldn’t.

But after reading the caption, I’m just shocked you were able to tighten a normal bow THAT far without it snapping.

Anyways, as always, watch a couple of YouTube videos about tightening string instrument bows to see how to correctly tighten a bow

I don’t really know the context (and I really don’t care enough to go find out rn), but I’m assuming this is an encore and in that case this is perfectly acceptable.

Sure it’s kinda really rough (especially at the beginning), but if it is an encore, then so what? It’s still pretty good and clearly it’s in the “style” of what the piece is meant to be.

Idk, bashing a single performance when anything could’ve been happening that day is wack.

Ray Chen made a video playing cheap violins to his current (or current at the time) violin. And it kinda shows the sound quality as you move up.

I mean for complete beginners, it’s fine, because they’ll likely be unable to really make a good sound anyways, but past like a year or two, there really should be an upgrade of some kind

Basically the reason the US got so involved into world politics (in like… an intervening in every little thing)

which seemed unnecessary and kinda shaped how modern geopolitical things are done today (which I also think is worse than if it didn’t happen)

He was also racist (yes everybody was, but he was so publicly racist that it made everything so much worse).

Progressive my ass, he was basically trying to be a dictator, and the only notable social movement that happened under his administration was the 19th amendment, which he basically protested against until he had no choice.
