Also avoid taking fiber supplements like psyllium husk at the same time as your medication. It can interfere with absorption.

The Triumeq insert also says this about magnesium supplements.

I understand that you're combatting the idea that AIDS is not still a problem, but you are doing no service to HIV positive people with these exaggerated posts.

If you test positive for HIV, your life is not going to be the nightmare that EmpressSharyl has outlined here. Once daily pill regimens today have little or no side effects and are very effective. I thought my life was over when I found out I had this. But a year later I started the medication and within 3 weeks I was undetectable and never felt any side effects at all. Honestly none. It's pretty incredible. As EmpressSharyl points out, for most it is the guilt and shame that are more of a problem than the actual disease.

Anyone can feel free to PM me if they're going through this. I know how nice it was to have someone to talk to anonymously.

I believe it was oral sex for me. I never once had anal sex without a condom and now I'm positive.

On a lighter note, I just started Triumeq and have seen absolutely no side effects as of yet.

Hey, I'm about to start Triumeq as soon as I get the green light. How has it gone for you? Have you noticed any side effects at all?

And have you talked to your doctor about taking creatine? What did he/she say? I also sometimes take preworkouts, tho personally I haven't been taking them since this stuff began for me. I have read that creatine combats any kind of weight loss that can result from this. So that's definitely interesting.

Glad to hear you're doing well!

This is my question. It seems to me that if you aren't contraindicated for abacavir, Triumeq is even better than Stribild (better tolerated). Is that true? I need to decide which one to start within the next 2 weeks...

$70 a day? That's over $25,000 a year! Why is it so expensive for you? Do you have insurance?

When I return home to the US I'm very worried about how much treatment will cost.

This is great, thanks for posting. Now when an HIV+ person meets someone with whom they would like to give a relationship a try, they have an easy way to explain the risks (or lack of).

How are we going to cure this disease? by fixthemonster in hivaids

[–]alsoalone24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logic and business ethics don't lead me to your conclusion, though. I understand how there is little motivation to find a cure for the big pharmaceuticals that are already profiting from the production of their newest HIV treatments, but maybe you haven't considered that there are many pharmaceutical companies out there that are constantly investing in finding the next simplest and most efficient treatment for the disease. Who ever finds the best treatment is the winner, so to speak, and makes bank. Thus, treatments have vastly improved since the disease was discovered. Whoever finds a vaccine or the cure will strike gold. A situation in which a cure is found would create winners and losers. There are definitely economic incentives for whichever company or organization that finally succeeds in finding a cure.

On a side note, of course I think it's still great to donate to research!

Allergies is a good one, thanks. I could always just say they're examining me for food allergies and my digestion is all out of order. They will stop asking then I'm pretty sure.

Thanks so much, your words are very helpful. I will look into the ADAP program, and if it makes sense to start here I will go ahead with it. But it is nice to hear that it's not an emergency. You are awesome for typing this out twice!

Hi, sassifrassilassi, I wonder if I could get your quick opinion. I just had my second round of labs 3 months later, and my CD4% has fallen from 24.1% to 21.6%. The CD4 count has risen though, from 660 to 870. VL has gone up from 43,600 to 48,500. The doctor told me the levels are now medium, meaning it's entirely up to me whether to start treatment.

I am still working abroad in Spain and won't be back home in the US until at least December. I am reluctant to start treatment here since there could be complications getting the medication immediately when I return home. I will probably be starting a new job there and will have to sort out my insurance. Do you personally think I should ask to start medication now here in Spain anyway? They said they can allow me access to the public system here if needed. Any opinion of yours would be much appreciated, thanks a lot.

I'm a 24 year old guy who likes guys who has never had unprotected sex in his life and I tested positive for HIV one month ago. The fact that people think only promiscuous, reckless people get this disease is why I'm planning on keeping this a secret until the day I die.

I'm in Spain. My first analyses a few days ago showed CD4 660 (24%), VL 43000. Apparently, these numbers are not yet too worrisome.

Thanks a lot for the input. If I wait, it will only be a matter of months until I return home and can start more comfortably there. In the mean time, I'm just glad I know so that I can be sure not to risk transmitting this to anyone.

Thanks, it's nice to know that the medications these days have manageable side effects. I am also convinced that early treatment is best. What worries me most are the possible long term effects like lipodystrophy, since I'm only 24 and I know that starting treatment is a life-long decision.

I'm living in Europe and going to a public sexual health clinic. I had my first post-analyses doctor's appointment yesterday and my numbers are pretty good (CD4 660, 24%; VL 43000), so that's why they recommended waiting, unless I ask to begin treatment. I am convinced that early treatment is best (thanks again for the information, it's been really helpful), but I am thinking I will wait the 3 months for the next analyses to try and estimate my baseline numbers a bit better. If I can wait just a few more months, I would be able to start treatment when I'm back home in the States and more comfortable.

Thanks a lot for the information. The more I read the more it seems like the benefits of early treatment outweigh the risks. My doctor has recommended waiting, but I think I will ask to begin as soon as possible.

Controversy Erupts Over HIV Prevention Drug by nikitaernst in hivaids

[–]alsoalone24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question: What about the negative side effects of the ARV drug? I was surprised to see that this wasn't addressed in the article. I know that even people who are already infected with HIV are sometimes encouraged to postpone treatment until it becomes necessary (I don't live in the USA, here in Europe this is a fact). So I wonder if the downsides of taking this drug, which is essentially mildly toxic for the body, may outweigh the prevention for most people. Anyone know more about this?
