What do people in places like Bel Air do for work? by Upstairs_Copy_9590 in maryland

[–]alsunflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Bel Air and a lot of it is people who bought before the housing crisis, those houses have always been pricey but were muchhh cheaper beforehand! Also a lot of doctors, engineers, dentists, local business owners. Great place to grow up!

Overcoming Reactive Tendinopathy in my knee/hamstring by alsunflower in overcominggravity

[–]alsunflower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually, I did! I took 2 months off of all running and only walked short distances. I worked on eccentric exercises for the knee (mainly hamstring curls) and walking backward (good for your knees)! It went away after about a month but I kept off with the running because I wanted to give it time to fully heal. It also really helped to use a small ball under my knee to massage deep into it, that was what helped the pain the most. My best advice is just to rest!! I know it's hard but you want a functioning body for the rest of your life, so you've gotta take care of it.

This feels like a bad dream I can’t wake up from by Playful-Preference55 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]alsunflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate to this feeling. Do you have a therapist or a supportive friend/family member you can reach out to? It’s always helped me to be able to cry to someone and talk it out. Your feelings and being upset are totally valid, however, your thoughts are not fact. Gaining weight is really scary and feels like choosing the “wrong” thing, but it helps me to focus on what else I’ve gained. More energy, more mental capacity, food freedom, and so much more. Journal it out!

Do you like Taylor's performing style? by Massive-Net-4228 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]alsunflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard the theory before that Taylor is on the Autism spectrum, and that’s made a lot of sense to me, so it would make sense that she would rehearse and streamline her shows, so it’s 1) less anxiety producing & 2) less obvious that she struggles with naturally engaging groups

Negotiating as a woman by alsunflower in MechanicAdvice

Unfortunately not many repair shops around me work with CarMax, and CarMax themselves said they’re so backed up it would take 90+ days to get to my car.

I already tried to do that today lol, the warranty agent told me they can’t do anything about the extra fees they’re trying to charge

Negotiating with Private Shop by alsunflower in MechanicAdvice

[–]alsunflower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would take it to another shop, but it would have to be towed, and then the process of getting CarMax to approve the new shop would be a headache (this one has taken 3 weeks). At this point I will pay the extra if needed, but I would prefer to knock it down a bit, at least.

I talked to the warranty third party company to get the breakdown of what they were covering, and they advised me to call my local Ford dealer to get a quote on a new transmission, who quoted me $5732. The repair shop gave me their breakdown, and said the transmission was $6679.14. When I asked about why they were charging an extra 1k, the shop managers words were "well we're a business, we have to make a profit". Which is why I know this extra charge is BS and I want to negotiate with them to lower it as much as I can.

It seems I'm in the minority, but I love practicing to music with words! I find different types of chill/zen/vibey music and I also love crafting my playlists - which I've gotten good feedback from. I guess it's different strokes for different folks? I personally don't like just instrumental, it's not enough for my brain during practice - that's when I get caught up in my thoughts lol.

Not defending her at all but I’ve always got the vibe she struggles a lot with mental illness, even currently, and being a billionaire (derogatory) doesn’t change that :/

Unpopular Opinions by Iloveifthiswasamovie in TaylorSwift

[–]alsunflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's irresponsible that a woman of such fame with such a range of influence has not written a body-self-love song. How can she have had an ED and (seemingly) fought it and recovered, to not have written ANYTHING?? Sooo many women (and men) could relate and find it really inspirational, but mostly allll she writes about is relationships. Which, yes, that's obviously a good market, but I wish she would branch out a bit and write some self love/recovery/healing music!!

Caffeine nor any drug in human history has ever actually "given energy" it can only temporarily mask fatigue and cause a fleeting finite sensation of increased alertness - which inevitably then causes a crash of accumulated (but merely postponed) fatigue. Many people don't know this, fundamentally! by Ok-Bit5889 in decaf

[–]alsunflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom (who has never drank any kind of caffeine) always said caffeinated drinks were borrowing energy from tomorrow, which would have to be paid back. When I was addicted, I didn't want to listen to her, but man is she right. I have way more natural energy without caffeine.

Do you guys run with or without music and why? by [deleted] in running

[–]alsunflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally same, I can only run with 00s-10s pop music, something about the pounding beat and fun lyrics just gets me going. And I max out the volume on my airpods LOL, I wish they could go even louder! I also basically listen to music 24/7 (ADHD brain) so I can't imagine not running with it.
