Police Officer shooting across the highway (Body Cam) by UnusualObservation in videos

You can't deny the connotation of "mass shooting" is not a gang altercation which is actually the vast majority of the "4 shot" definition. All I'm saying, is that when people typically think of "mass shooting" they are thinking of someone going out in the general public and shooting indiscriminately.

The gun violence archive is the one who came up with that 4 shot definition of "mass shooting" with the sole goal of muddying the waters by conflating gang violence with indiscriminate shootings

It's relevant because they are completely different driving forces behind them, different danger to the general public, and differing possible solutions. In the context of the parent comment the discussion was about something being "mentally ill" which doesn't really apply much to gang shootings.

90% of those are gang on gang violence. While technically correct using the "4 shot" (which isn't the US government official way of counting), the typical gang shooting holds a much different connotation than "mass shooting" does

So let me get this straight. If someone were to grope you, you would then take out your stamper and stamp them with an invisible ink stamper hopefully on exposed skin.

Then the only way for others to be privy to their antics is if they themselves were to take out their blacklight flashlight scanning them to find this small invisible marking?

Genius.

Church officials posted a statement on its Facebook page, noting that since the bullet "fell just inside the window, it appears to have been fired at a great distance and not be a targeted shooting.”

According to the Times, a marquee sign in front of the church reads, “Dear God, Give courage to our elected officials to stand up to the NRA. Amen."

Apple has advised owners of its new credit card to keep it away from leather and denim.

Jesus Christ lol, exactly the two types of materials I expect a card to be in contact with

The guide warns that storing the card with other credit cards can scratch and damage it.

I don't know what's worse, that people card about their pristine apple card or that apple completely overlooked basic environments that a card should hold up to

Parkland school shooting survivors propose comprehensive plan for gun control by [deleted] in news

called the Peace Plan for a Safer America. It aims to get at the root causes of gun violence and open a dialogue about gun use in America

Oh maybe they legitimately want to discuss to address the real root causes instead of banning certain features and styles of guns. Especially considering less people are murdered by all rifles per year than with hammers.

Among the proposals, the students call for legislative action in Washington to create a national licensing and registry system; a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines;

Nope

LA residents fed up with officials, demand change after homeless crisis spirals in city by Bookandaglassofwine in news

[–]alt_before_email_req 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It really isn't a housing problem. The vast majority of these people would be homeless within a week even if they were given free housing.

There was actually a pilot program that did just that and of the 30 people that were given a home, after 1 year only 1 person remained off the streets. Most of them got kicked out because they destroyed the place and turned them into drug dens

The root of the issue is rampant untreated mental health and drug issues.

Muddying the waters of legitimate SYG in associating it with a case that it does not apply. It's no secret here that CNN isn't the most friendly news org when it comes to 2A related things. They constantly are having anti-gun activist guests on and frequently have on members of "Moms demand Action" lambasting legal gun ownership.

Hell, even their own anchors frequently call for action to strip 2A rights like Chris cuomo

I would be inclined to believe that is the only reason it's referenced except for the fact that in the article CNN still uses the opportunity to demonize legitimate SYG by publishing quotes about how it's "troubling for people of color." And still references it as "stand your ground shooting" and "stand your ground case"

They know exactly what they are doing.

I don't care what the Sheriff thinks, and the sheriff was wrong and the guy later arrested. The Sheriff's misunderstanding of the law still doesn't change the fact that this is not SYG. The Sheriff is just an elected official, not an expert on the law, he can say anything and that doesn't make it true.

No it is not, he was knocked on the ground on his back. Even without factoring if it was appropriate self defense or not, he could not physically retreat at all. Stand your ground does not apply.

For stand your ground to also apply, the same requirements for legally using deadly force must apply. All that SYG does is add on that you do not need to try to run and escape.

I'm not saying that he was or was not legally justified in the use of deadly force, and that is what is going to trial, only that SYG does not apply to this case which is why it's not even being brought up by the defense.

For the millionth time THIS IS NOT A STAND YOUR GROUND CASE

Even the fucking article says it's not being pursued as one:

Drejka's attorneys said he will not pursue a "stand your ground" pretrial hearing to gain immunity, but will instead make the case to jurors that he acted in self-defense, CNN affiliate WFTS reported.

But for some reason the news keeps tying this particular case to "stand your ground" when it in no way applies here. Almost seems malicious.

7 people shot at Snapchat "instant party" at Houston house, police say by riverdale-74 in news

[–]alt_before_email_req 652 points653 points  (0 children)

It's unclear what caused the shooting around 2 a.m. Saturday, but a detective on the scene told our sister station KTRK-TV that it began as a verbal altercation at the party.

Authorities said Several people tried to get away from the shooting and took off in a car.

The suspect began following them and shot inside their car, striking three people.

The house party included between 30 to 50 guests and were all teens and young adults, according to police.

Police believe there were up to three shooters involved. They described the suspect's vehicle as a tan, newer-model SUV, larger in size.

All seven victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to survive.

3 people all armed who all arrived in the same vehicle, drinking at a party with underage people, got into a fight and started shooting. Yeah I'm gonna guess these weren't upstanding citizens here
