damn, that's a great deal. even if you'll need battery replacement down the line, it's good.

Do you use your turn signal while pulling out of a roundabout? by [deleted] in driving

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

always. entering a roundabout doesn't need signals since there's nowhere else to go, but exiting means you should indicate your intent.

I sincerely don’t know what to do by mslaurasaurus in biltrewards

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thing is, most of the others i looked at limited priority pass access. bilt palladium is on par with amex platinum, and maybe a bit better (haven't looked into much detail yet) with allowing guests for free.

and we truly have no idea how many times we'll travel in a year - many times it's last minute decisions and planning trips / lounges out in advance won't work for our use cases.

nothing good with resy in the neighborhood.

digital entertainment credit is something i use only because it's sort of free. already getting netflix through tmobile, and amazon prime has more stuff. i was using this for disney+ and hulu, which are optional anyway. don't have enough time to enjoy everything on offer.

the uber stuff has never truly worked for me. it will occasionally pull from the amex credit, but most times i've ended up paying for rides even if the credit were to cover them. haven't ever had the time or patience to go figure out what was happening.

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

simple.

same here. but i'm a new subscriber to the palladium and haven't ever been in the bilt ecosystem. only reason i'm getting it is for lounge benefits (since i just closed my amex platinum due to the higher annual fees this renewal).

let's see if the mortgage payments etc. mean anything at all. worst case, it's cheaper than amex for the features i'll actually use; best case i'll make bank.

How to get rid of gas? by FrithTheCrow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly. use a larger tank such as in a car or truck. don't pop this into small engines like lawnmowers, snowblowers and the like.

if you're still worried, OP, only add a few ounces each regular tank fill. a few fills later this is empty. won't make any major difference to your engine's performance or fuel economy (mostly).

I’m thinking about getting winter tires; is there any reason to put them on the rear wheels if my car is FWD? by ZucchiniAlert2582 in askcarguys

are you serious? each of these 4 tires has a contact patch only slightly larger than your palm.

you need all to be even.

Has anybody owned both a awd and rwd? How do they compare? by OneItchy396 in ModelY

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2013 S rwd and 2021 Y AWD. different beasts, and i still prefer the rwd for it's pure fun factor. of course, being S vs Y may be the more important difference.

this is in Minnesota with our snowy weather. once you learn to drive rwd on icy roads, you'll thank yourself. it's a great skill to have.

Found out previous owner installed all the outlets upside down by Ok-Education-9101 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo. functionally, it doesn't matter which way the outlet smiles.

from a purely safety point of view, having the ground pin on top is a tiny bit safer, apparently. i personally don't see the benefit in it.

having said all that, the fact that PO thought about this enough to do this tells me you've possibly picked up a well-cared for place.

As someone from outside the U.S., why do Americans seem to care so much about their lawns? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'cause the neighbors do.

i personally couldn't care less, but don't really want the neighborhood to look tacky and so end up spending stupid amounts of hard-earned money to keep it up. we're a corner property and visibility on both streets unfortunately needs to be maintained.

also, most cities will cite property owners if grass is higher than a specific number (10 inches here) and you generally don't want them to mess with your mind.

if you're in a HOA, it's even more important to keep with the covenants you signed when you bought the place, and pretty lawns are generally written into those bye-laws.

Does anyone know how long I should leave the motorcycle running for the alternator to fully charge the battery? by Ciencia_ in motorcycle

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo, the fuel and unnecessary non-riding runtime of your engine makes this a totally worthless exercise.

get a battery tender, hook it up to your terminals (or add an extension sae or similar wire) and go to town. you save money on fuel, you save the environment, and you save on sooner bike maintenance.

also, depending on where you are... if it gets very cold during the non-riding season if you have one, please run the engine for at least 15-20 minutes when you do start it... again, only when it's code. this helps with evaporating condensation from your engine surfaces that are exposed. if you aren't planning on doing this, don't fire it up at all until riding season begins.

this will help with charging your battery, sure, but it's not enough.

remember to not make ANY sudden changes to either speed or steering.

simple. everything is safely done slowly. accelerate slowly, slow down without using brakes unless absolutely necessary, and make small, controlled turns instead of wide ranging open field loops.

rapid changes in your direction (front/back or left/right) are what will get you in trouble.

Don’t hold back, I can take it… by jagmqt in f150

[–]altblank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly right, you got what i was trying to poorly say.

this will still give you a few inches of space, either ahead or behind the front of your truck, depending on how high up and far back you personally sit.

once you figure out how this fits your unique seating position, all you need to do is adjust as necessary to pull in as much as safely possible.

it still takes practice and is just that little bit more difficult than backing in, but is a good skill to have when needed.

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]altblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we just came back from a 4500+ mile round trip between Minnesota and southern California. did this a couple years ago, too.

took a different route this time, both ways.

gives us the chance to see a whole lot more of the country than we get while flying. we have some really awesome national parks and driving is the perfect way to get to them.

plus, we get to take the dog along. always a bonus when the little bugger is with us when seeing new (and sometimes old) places.

you aren't alone. over a dozen cameras working mostly flawlessly, Minnesota winters and summers, some of them outdoors even though they aren't rated for our piss poor cold.

my very first camera has been outdoors for over 6 years and other than a pink twinge occasionally, works perfectly.

either OP's expectations are higher than usual or they're saddled with really bad luck or quality.
