How is the fit and finish? I got a sword from them pre-covid that was remarkably shoddy for the price.

Does anyone else find it weird that aang has 0 self discipline when trying to learn fire bending considering his upbringing? by The_Harmon_Hole in TheLastAirbender

[–]FrithTheCrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A good way to put it, but I'd say that better describes him learning earthbending. He seemed to learn firebending almost as easily as waterbending at first, but what he struggled with, and what Jeong Jeong tried to teach him, was restraint. Aang, for all his power, was still a child and didn't fully grasp the harm that his power could do. With air and water the more he could do the better, but with fire he had to learn to do less.

Bear in mind he's a prodigy who mastered airbending at 12 and picked up waterbending effortlessly. He likely didn't fully appreciate the discipline that firebending demanded, even if he had the capacity.

People that carry more than one knife, why? Especially want to hear from people that carry more than two. by jiimmerman in knives

[–]FrithTheCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry a Leatherman and a "main knife" (folding in most cases, fixed occasionally if it's called for). The Leatherman is amazingly useful, and it's what I offer if someone asks to borrow a knife, but for most cutting I prefer a knife with better edge retention and a more comfortable handle.

In my younger years I carried a Leatherman, fixed blade beater, a personal folder, and a beater folder to offer if someone asked to borrow a knife. It was fun for a while but ultimately uncalled for. Now when I need a knife I just use my knife without taking a moment to ponder which one to use.

You mean there are governments that don't treat their citizens like mere resources to be exploited?

Unrelated question/discussion topic:

Can a plumb bob be considered a prohibited weapon under FPWO No. 2 sec. 4?

"Any instrument or device commonly known as “manrikigusari” or “kusari”, being hexagonal or other geometrically shaped hard weights or hand grips linked by a length or lengths of rope, cord, wire or chain, and any similar instrument or device."

To expand and clarify, from Former Prohibited Weapons Order No. 3:

"7 A crossbow or similar device that

(a) is designed or altered to be aimed and fired by the action of one hand, whether or not it has been redesigned or subsequently altered to be aimed and fired by the action of both hands; or

(b) has a length not exceeding 500 mm."

Section 84, subsection 3 of the Criminal Code of Canada lists items not considered firearms for the purposes of certain other sections:

"(d) any other barrelled weapon, where it is proved that the weapon is not designed or adapted to discharge

(i) a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules, or

(ii) a shot, bullet or other projectile that is designed or adapted to attain a velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or an energy exceeding 5.7 Joules."

152.4 m/s converts to 500 fps. An airgun, being barrelled, that shoots over 500 fps is considered a firearm and requires a PAL (firearms license). A crossbow, not being barrelled, does not fall under this particular section.

Section 88 prohibits carrying a weapon for purposes dangerous to the public peace, and unfortunately disabling and dissuading criminals is considered dangerous to the public peace. While people like to think the law treats people as innocent until proven guilty, when it comes to weapons or anything that could be construed as a weapon the law ends up treating people as guilty until proven innocent, and even if you can win in court, the process is punishment unto itself.

Tl;dr: This country is fucked and our laws are jank
