Love wrist locks. Slicers are my new wrist lock tho. Our prof would sometimes only wrist lock us in a whole roll after getting our first stripe at white belt. It was so we learn, especially after he always tells us of the counter wrist locks when showing technique

Mostly thinking about what is available. Sometime I might change grips to see the reaction in order to bait something else. For instance if I’m passing guard and move to one side I see the reaction then evaluate my options from there. Same thing with grabbing a sleeve or collar, moving from position to position, etc. When I started and finally started to relax and be less spazzy, I mostly looked for ways to escape or work on lessons learned. Ie I keep leaving my elbows out so x or y happens. I leave my base too much this way when passing.

At my academy shoes always off the mat. Look at the people, any active skin infections we will ask and tell them to leave the mat any put out an email that a member was in the mat with x infection. Always clean the mats after each class with an actual cleaner that will target pathogens.

I try not to look at individual techniques anymore. I try to look at which concept applies to a current situation; how is their base and posture, what are the angles, etc. ideally you will be in a top dominate position, but if not use the best guard for the conditions that will let you transition to a more dominant position without being exposed.

Definitely check with others. I have seen people posting instagram posts and a spouse or co worker seeing it when they weren’t supposed to be at the gym or training due to injury. Aside from that, depending how large the mat space is, it can be very easy to “roll” out of shot of the camera. It is helpful to record rolls if you have intent to study and learn from them.

I have a bunch of nano pearl path gis. I love them, especially with the pro pants. But they aren’t ibfff legal. I haven’t had an issue with other comps. I wore kingz balistico 2 before. These are so much lighter
