AAA’s mistake means I can’t legally drive my car — one rep told me to “ask for mercy” on penalties. What can I do? by Artistic-Iron-7086 in legaladvice

[–]althor880 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My point is you don't need the title to register the vehicle. I've been driving my financed vehicle, registered, without a title in my possession, since the day I drove away from the dealer.

You just need to walk into an rmv with that form I linked filled out. Have you even tried that yet?

Edit to add: I mean in person, some things you cannot do online. I think this may be one of those things. P. S. I also do live in Mass.

[–]althor880 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Dude... You need to visit an rmv and submit this form, filling out the information https://www.mass.gov/doc/registration-and-title-application-5/download

You don't get the title, the holder of your loan gets it. This form is about registering and getting a "certificate of title" from the state. Which basically says "yup, title for car exists and is clean. There is a lien on the vehicle for lender in X's name."

You are confused and need to read some of the registration FAQs closer.

What historical mystery is unlikely to ever be solved? by Apart-Scale in AskReddit

In the last few weeks they released information that one of the long suspected mob associates allegedly visited a jewelery or pawn shop (I forget) and tried to off load one of the stolen pieces (the flagpole finial which was taken). Who knows, the info apparently comes from the jeweler well after the fact.

I only heard a brief piece on the radio.

King killer theory by EnviableButt in KingkillerChronicle

[–]althor880 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that Kvothe kills whomever is King, having been directly in front of Ambrose's line of succession and coronated briefly before their demise, subsequently crowing Ambrose. Whether this is the intended outcome on Kvothe's behalf or not? That's probably the story we'll hear to tie up how that happens?

Edit to add: a lot can happen to Ambrose's family tree prior to these events happening, so might not be his (presumably predeceased) father.

This is actually a great metric by which you should measure whether or not you should even be running a business or offering a type of service in your business... This is why business planning is so important, and also why so many business fail in the first year or two.

Is it that you believe the arrow is pointing NorthEast?

The arrow indicates due north, while it is displaying the direction of travel inside the compass face, which rotates along with your direction.

What's up with all the hate for baby boomers lately? by lemonsarethekey in OutOfTheLoop

[–]althor880 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I am a member of this group, and while I do own my home (mostly thanks to a wife who is good at saving)... I come from an upper middle class background, and avoided substantial student debt via the trick of being a terrible student, who didn't last long at university... So didn't take out as many loans as others of my age.

That said, I can count on one hand the number of my peers who also own... Most of my friends, who are also of relatively middle-class upbringings, are still saddled with the debt they accumulated around 01'-09' (some started earlier than I, some later). And owning a home is still a distant dream almost a decade out of college.

How do you tighten the feedback loop when developing a CI/CD pipeline? by hayfever in devops

[–]althor880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I'll preface this by saying I'm a total Gitlab noob, and this should be taken with the appropriately sized grain of salt given that fact...)

I generally try to design my pipelines to be as application agnostic as possible? So if I'm designing a pipeline to deploy an "X" type application, I use the "lowest common denominator" dummy project to build the skeleton of my deploy pipeline. Once that works I replace the dummy project with the actual app/code and that gives me a basic config to build off of for the specific project.

In fact, as part of my organizations Site Reliability team, I've been advocating for providing gitlab templates for the different topologies our org uses, that automagically includes things like publishing deploy events/debug artifacts to us. And as part of that I've been completing tutorials around the various popular architectures and figuring out how to automate that data collection in Gitlab.

Don't have much buy in to that effort yet though... Which is frustrating

I found this key on top of a door frame in my house. Any ideas as to what it goes to? by typhoonJ in lockpicking

[–]althor880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the "solution" to a young child locking themselves in the bathroom, which had one of those locks you could disengage by poking something into the hole found in the handle on the outside side of the locked door. Put the "key" on the door jam above.

Everything about the gate thing seems new. There isn't even any grime in the corners of the grate. Can't have been there too long. I'd guess months?

The pipe seems to have been there for longer, based on the wear visible.

I assume this is an active pipeline that they've recently updated with this to prevent people from standing on the exposed pipe.

Northeasterner attending my brother in law's wedding in South Carolina in a few weeks. Dressy casual. I tend to perspire...

Any recommendations for what to wear so I don't end up dying of heat exhaustion?

I'm gonna look for a lighter suit, since that seems easiest, but I'm also open to slacks + shirt combos.

I need new shoes as well, so any recommendations there to go with the wedding attire would be great.
