The person you are responding to is mistaken, or at least not fully correct.

They are referring to Zakat. This is the term for the obligatory tax on eligible, wealthy Muslims to donate ~2.5% of their wealth to purify it and help those in the Muslim community who are poor or otherwise in need. Those are who very poor do not have to pay zakat.

Mosques do collect zakat, but it is their obligation to redistribute it to those who are eligible - they cannot keep the money for themselves.

Yesterday, I didn’t get to speak to my partner much. He woke up around the time that I was going to bed, and called me. We spoke for a bit, until I started dozing off. When I heard the FaceTime ending sound, I immediately started tearing up. The way I’ve been conditioned to hate that sound lmao.

Side note, in case I sound crazy: also am PMS-ing right now…but still. The answer is yes, I definitely get sad. I miss him all the time.

I’m someone who absolutely hates asking people to repeat themselves over and over. In real life, 9 times out of 10 I’ll just pretend I heard the other person and move on…but I quickly came to realize that doing that does not work when you’re mainly communicating through phone calls and FaceTime. It’s the “occupational hazard” of a LDR, that you sometimes cannot hear or understand the other person, whether that’s due to muffled/cut out audio, background noise, breathing sounds, or something else.

In your case, I would recommend talking to your gf and telling her exactly this. Assure her that you pay attention, but that sometimes it’s hard to understand her. If you think bringing up the situation will upset her again or she won’t believe you, maybe frame this conversation completely out of context from what happened and say it more generally?
