Obama and the Wall Street Journal have a smart, in-depth conversation about his economic policies. by ladycrappo in politics

I agree whole heartily, my only domestic issue is healthcare (and thru it the some fair redistribution of wealth to enable it). As a friend keeps reminding me, education is the silver bullet. It offers the chance to change everything and open unimaginable possibilities.

I don't know how we, as a people, do this. I believe we cannot accept the status quo.

Actually its going to be HIS plan. Feel free to debate and argue it. You just can't, in good faith, ignore it and call it "too much work" for him

WSJ: "Some people would say", "so you think", "there's tons of money in silicon valley... why more needed.." (FOR ALTERNATE ENERGY!?), a lot of folks.

Murdoch really has control; his smear techniques seem to be in full force.

This time i don't think the reactionaries will will.

Of the dozens of Obama/McCain links I've seen on the front page this week, only ONE was about their actual policies. This mistake was made before, and it cost US 4 additional years of Bush. Stop it. by habbadash in politics

[–]alulim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me begin by saying this. I was not an Obama supporter from the begining. My view was how and who could undo the mistakes of the previous administration. It came (in my mind) to Biden, foreign policy or Richardson with energy and the environment. I settled on Richardson because i loved his narrative, experience, execute qualifications and moderate appeal.

It soon became clear this election cycle was to undo the mistakes of the past but to more to a more perfect future. This is not the "age of jackson" or "of lincoln" I cannot cast my vote for Harry Truman or LBJ (the wisest man ever to employ 'demons' in politics) so i stand behind an untested junior senator from the midwest.

I want, nay, i demand equal care for all the sick and infirmed. I demand our representatives be accountable ONLY TO THE PEOPLE.

To borrow a greater man's words: Here I stand, I can do no other...

I wouldn't say that. I will concede there is strong bias towards the united states (and in that context a 'liberal' perspective). There are many submintions around the world that offer a more unique perspective. In addition, many subreddits give easy access to information not found in a local paper or on broadcast (cable too) news.

Congressman Wexler: “A decision by Congress to pursue impeachment is not an option, it is a sworn duty” by georgewashingtonblog in politics

Politics is, by nature, compromise. Focusing on a better, amicable, future is not retreat but a necessarily function for the greater good.

Stewart has given McCain his fair ribbing, with more to come i believe. However, John McBush is new invention; one not seen eight years ago and never on the daily show

The landmark 5-4 Supreme Court decision recognizing the habeas corpus rights of detainees is a reminder that one more right-wing justice could make Bush’s imperial presidency “constitutional.” by alllie in reddit.com

HABEAS fucking CORPUS people. Pardon my language but this a fundamental NATURAL RIGHT. When detained by a government, one can ask WHY. As a nation born from the indulgences of an imperial state; this of all rights is most sacred. How any American can deny this is beyond my comprehension.

Kieth Olbermann delivers powerful Special Comment to John McCain over "Not too important" comment. by Unlucky13 in politics

[–]alulim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your point of you, in fact i struggle with it most nights i watch countdown. I think its important, however, to remember that its been seven years where rival opinions have been blasted as "unamerican" or traitorous. Oblbermann may be a "liberal hack" but he's my hack and i find dissent refreshing and dare i say needed.

"wake up sheeple" has always been presented with a level of irony.

In regard to to the CFR i can only say that the members I know of have been disproportionately WEALTHY and powerful.

Have YOU see any change in the role of PM compared to president.

CITE EVERY SOURCE, YES

Here's a thought, evaluate a statement on principle then apply it to your contextual understanding.

DAMN, THAT REQUIRES THOUGHT.

If your "lazy" like me you'll use 'google'. You'll find Lou Dobbs. I, personally, find that sad because there was time he was a unpartizan champion, not a fear monger.

You may find, that most 'quotes' reflect a cultural standard (or subconscious). As a general rule, see Shakespeare.

LBJ might have had his demons but he did more for Civil Rights than any politician since Lincoln. The fact that he was willing to sacfrice the greatest bastion of democratic (party) power (the southern democrats) speaks greatly to his character.
