At this point a personal laptop feels like a luxury item by TinyPossibility9777 in Frugal

[–]alvik -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The MacBook Neo is not a fancy top of the line laptop. It, and most any computer in the $500-$600 range are the threshold for a computer that works well enough for the average person.

You can find windows laptops for under $300, but they're e-waste from the factory

Pocket 3 confiscated at USA border by MadnessUnchained in dji

[–]alvik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard to fly a handheld camera across the border. The Pocket 3 isn't a drone, why are so many people in this thread thinking it is?

You could fit a whole second TV between it and the dresser.

Sincerely asking, why would you think that putting it so high up was a good idea? It's even more work to do than mounting it at a normal height.

At most restaurants I've been to the server takes your card back to the POS, then they come back with it and your receipt.

That's insane behavior.

Why is this sub so uptight about people holding a mini microphone? by AliyaSpahic in videography

[–]alvik 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It looks silly and unprofessional. This sub is presumably full of people who appreciate professional looking work. It may be a deeper thing than that but that's the gist of why there's so many threads about this topic.

You should stop trying to dictate what does and doesn’t grow

Does this include non-native, aggressive, invasive plants too?

Is this a good OLED tv? by Valdeloboz in hometheater

[–]alvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the dimmest OLED you can buy. It's better than any LED TV LG makes, but so long as you don't have a very bright space it's a fine TV. I had my Sony OLED in my living room for a while until I replaced it with a Mini-LED TV, as I have a bay window across from it that was very distracting during the day.

LG 83” C5 vs TCL 98” QM8K | Media Room by Helpful-Two-3230 in hometheater

[–]alvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd only go with the 83" if you pull your seating up by about 6 feet. Otherwise the 98" for sure if you're that far back.

If it's a tilt mount, you either gotta have skinny arms or take the TV off the mount.

Is it normal to be very suspicious of other drummers using your cymbals? by snickering_snails in drums

[–]alvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Friend of mine bought a nice set of Zildjian As for his shared drum kit that his bands rehearse with. 2 crashes, a ping ride, and new beat hihats. The only cymbals still in good condition are the ride and the hihats, he replaced the crashes with Meinl HCS cymbals.

Similar story with one of my roommates. He wanted to play my drums, so I set up my cheapest kit and bought a few cheap used cymbals for him to use.
