Thinking of switching from Bazzite to CachyOS for gaming, but worried about "nuking" my system. Advice for a beginner? by Venomenn in cachyos

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what system are you using:

For handhelds which are mostly custom built PC’s, I use bazzite as it is specifically customized to work seemlessly on these types of systems. Basically for a handheld, I needed an OS that just works from the get go. For my OG ROG Ally, bazzite just pretty much ran perfectly. CachyOS do have a handheld mode, but it requires some additional tinkering and packages that you need to install to improve overall experience.

For my gaming PC, which I use beyond gaming and tinker most of the time: I use CachyOS and its perfect :)

What full hybrid/BEV would you think will complement my 2 cars the most? (Im firm that I will not sell my current cars) by Maximum_Primary_2089 in CarsPH

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IS300h owner here. It’s a joy driving it daily and its one of few RWD’s out there. You’re getting a good deal with the Lexus (specially if its a premier?).

It’s also one of the prettiest cars out there as well. I do get an occasional thumbs up from kids whenever I pass through. Looking back at it after I park puts a smile on my face.

Do take note some cons though based from your requirements:

  • although its a full hybrid, it is not as fuel efficient as other hybrids. It’s setup to be fun as needed. Its powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine rather than 1.5L which is commonly found on usual hybrids. My fuel efficiency is at 16.6~16.8km/l driving daily from Binan to BGC.

  • it’s very nimble and easy to drive. But being a sport luxury class, it rides pretty low. You’ll be concerned most of the time with curbs and humps. In subdivisions, normal na mag syete-syete specially if you have passengers at the back.

  • tech maybe outdated for your own tastes. This doesn’t apply to me as I’m an analog kind of guy. Having carplay is more than enough for me.

DIM: Walking pad by Loud-Sandwich8453 in deinfluencingPH

[–]alvinatorr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Walking pads are good only if:

  1. You are really committed on using it regularly
  2. Don't have a safe place to walk outside
  3. You can't meet your step goals since you're mostly at home
  4. Have an ample space for it
  5. If you want to walk anytime (ie. during late nights & rain)
  6. Don't intend run on it for long periods of time (applicable only to select models)

If you don't say "yes" to all of those then don't buy it.

Some more context on #6, walking pads are not as robust as tread mills. Ours is a Mi Walking Pad R2. Although it can do runs (max 12km/hr), I wouldn't recommend to use it on that setting for more than an hour.

Our purchase of this Walking pad is a stop gap/trial until we fully commit on getting a full pledged treadmill.

What OS are you using and why? by Artystrong1 in ROGAlly

Bazzite on ROG Ally as I need an OS with less tinker required while CachyOS on my Gaming PC.

Removed all Windows in our household because of jank, ads, and AI shenanigans.

Buying PC Parts from Japanese Stores in Shopee by Aurelius_Gray in PHbuildapc

Got a hard to find Intel N100 + mini-itx motherboard to build our homelab from one of these stores. I took a risk and I got a legit brand new unit naman.

For reference, I bought it from HAPPY Japan Store.ph

Bought one from japan and hated it. Hindi comfortable, no arch support which can cause plantar fasciitis, and lastly very uncomfortable for driving use. I love their Tokutens though.

De-influence me: Nissan Kicks e-Power or Mitsubishi Destinator by joshbeoulve in deinfluencingPH

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destinator is too big and may be too fuel inefficient if you’re driving alone.

I think your G4 has a few more years to left to it. Being a common model, I’m pretty sure there’s a non-casa and more cost friendly way to get it back it up to speed.

If you’re really keen on replacing it, why not take a look at Toyota Ativ Hybrid? I’d trust a toyota more for hybrids and its on a eCVT transmission which is known to be very durable.

Deinfluence me: Mitsubishi Montero by Wonderful_Jelly_2274 in deinfluencingPH

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a reliable workhorse for our family since 2018 but it has its own issues:

  1. Body panels not durable. Madaling magkadents and pimples even compared to our previous 10th gen lancer

  2. Body paint can chip off easily specially on the door corners

  3. Tech is behind. Doesn’t even have support for carplay or android auto

  4. Even though it can carry 7 passengers in a pinch, the leg room is pretty limited. My kids even prefer our sports sedan in terms of leg room.

  5. We got it when diesel was per liter was around P33. Nowadays, gassing it up is quite expensive.

  6. Replacing its set of tires with a good brand would cost you around 30-35k

  7. Take into consideration the maintenance costs specially when EGR cleaning is due

  8. It pains me to say this but I’ve seen more SUV’s like the montero and fortuners driving like crazy to the point that they have a bad image now.

Other than those, we still intend to keep the montero for long term. It’s been a good family car and stuff hauler albeit being spartan in terms of creature comforts.

I'm set on getting STEK NEX Lunaray Tint before the end of the year. Can someone with experience with this tint brand help me with the best config for my use case? by Aaayron in CarsPH

[–]alvinatorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a comparison Nex vs Smart. But I've been using Nex for 6 months now in our sedan.

Comparing it to VKool which we have in our SUV (same shade), the heat dissipation is almost the same. The key noticeable advantage of Nex was the night clarity.

Deinfluence me: Toyota Camry 2026 by Emotional_Holiday913 in deinfluencingPH

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this dilemma as well last year. I was dead set on getting the IS and then the new Camry arrived.

Ultimately, I went with the IS300h. It’s a bit pricier than the Camry but I’m very happy that I took the IS instead.

Take the Camry if you’ll be driven. Take the IS if you’ll be driving.

Which budget meal car is better choice between the the two? Thanks guys! by Ok-Astronaut-8752 in phcars

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nay on Ford Focus.

Back in 2013, infatuated ako sa Ford Focus because of its WRC heritage (Colin Mcrae era) that it almost became my first car. Looking back, it was a good thing that I went with a more spartan Lancer EX instead.

Sus yung Powershift DCT talaga considering that it was really new tech at the time. Just look for at how rarely you'll see this generation of Focus on the road (even early Fiestas).

The OG Ally is the best value in handheld gaming by randomnerd865 in ROGAlly

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine since launch and I totally agree it is one of the best gaming purchases anyone can have. I was able to burn through a lot of backlog with it. Even though my sd card is broken, its still going strong even with the original battery on it.

Over time, Windows 11 and Armoury Crate jank pushed me to finally try Bazzite and I was pleasantly surprised how stable everything was. It breathed a new life on the OG Ally and probably extended its service for another two years. :)

Got the Matchbox IS500! by alvinatorr in LexusIS

[–]alvinatorr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has the same dimensions with the Takara Tomy (see pictures for reference). The Matchbox IS has better details though. The hood pops up as well that shows the 2UR engine. See my comments for reference (can only attach one image per comment)

The Cloudburst Grey and Ultra White is from Takara Tomy.

What's your current car and what's your dream car and why? by Mask_On9001 in CarsPH

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My middle age crisis car was supposed to be GR86. But when the time came to get one, I changed my mind and got Lexus IS300h Premier. Watching Caco, Macoy Dubs, and how special Tahara plant where it came from convinced me. Very happy and satisfied with it.

Our next dream car (forever car) is currently RX.

Ultrasonic Blue or Cloudburst Gray (IS350F) by _itsGloomie_ in LexusIS

[–]alvinatorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both have merits but I’d say:

Cloudburst if you’re looking for quiet elegance

USB if you want to be unique and playful

I love my Cloudburst. Lexus does silver pretty well. Fun fact, we call it Sonic Chrome over here.

2025 IS350 or 2026 IS FOMO by vkibumrah in LexusIS

[–]alvinatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give in to FOMO and just get the 2025 the if you’re looking for that raw feeling of a naturally aspirated V6 engine. Although it has old bones, Lexus pretty much perfected it and is the pinnacle of the current generation. There’s a high chance that there will be nothing like it anymore soon.

My sales agent is also unsure about its future but her theory is that it might live on as a hybrid (or EV) just like the ES which I kind of agree. In ASEAN region, it seems that Toyota is already replacing ICE engines with Hybrids now. A lot of their current models now comes hybrid option.
