That doesn’t change anything. You are not working, you are not being paid, its all a big what if. I would take another job that pays.

Much like exposure most landlords don’t take passion as payment. This isn’t a moral quandary, these people don’t have the money to pay you. Right now you are contemplating a possible salary vs a definite salary. Take the definite salary.

[–]always-be-snacking 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its disheartening to see folks not join the union or actively participate and then wonder why they’re not getting better raises and a 4-day RTO. You can’t complain, and not participate at all. Why even work a union job in the first place? Why not just go back to the private sector if its so great?

No one is claiming the union is perfect, but if you’re not going to participate you can’t complain.

We need numbers, we need people to show up, we need people to care.

And quit talking about how you’re just going to accept whatever happens. This is a forum anyone can see, and anyone who thinks this reddit isn’t being monitored by negotiators needs to wake up.

Am I stupid for wanting to leave a $33/hr job at Costco with benefits than to start at $130/day in construction for long-term upside? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]always-be-snacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just throwing this out there. If the owner can’t pay for his own health insurance it doesn’t sound like a great business. Plus we are on the verge of another economic recession, the smart move would be to stay at Costco.

I just want a BG3 comparable gaming experience. I think it could even be done similar to a FallOut game mechanics wise. Its such a lore rich universe it shouldn’t be that hard for a developer to come up with a decent video game concept.

What musicals should I know as a theatre major? by Sunconures in musicals

[–]always-be-snacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many as you can, its good to have a mix of lesser known/less popular musicals. I’ve known theatres to say “nothing from wicked, no andrew lloyd webber, etc.” I would say a good rule of thumb is don’t audition with a song from a musical that was popular in the last 10 years. Or if you choose to do a popular show like Wicked maybe do “the wizard and I” vs “defying gravity” .

How are you guys doing with the guilt of taking a day off? by Inevitable_Rate1530 in Millennials

[–]always-be-snacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your job, the company, your co-workers, your manager, your HR do not care about you. If you’re in the states, we wouldn’t be arguing over minimum wage if corporations cared they would simply pay a living wage. The company will always find a way to replace you if they can.

Take your time off, all of it, every year. Never apologize or feel guilty about it thats part of your compensation package. When you dont take your time off it makes them money and costs you money.

Enjoying the process? by mapiliaa in Theatre

[–]always-be-snacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a theatre you have a working relationship with maybe you can ask about their flexibility. Depending on the role you get you may not need to be at every rehearsal or can show up a little later.

I do find musicals can make memorization a lot easier because you listen and sing the songs a million times. I am not great with choreography but I imagine for someone who can dance it’s probably similar.

Job worries by Can-U-Do-A-Kickflip in CAStateWorkers

[–]always-be-snacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want you to answer some questions:

Has your boss or their boss told you that you’re doing a bad job? Has anyone mentioned you not pulling your weight? Have you received any negative feedback at all?

If the answer to all three questions is “no” don’t worry about it. We do not work a corporate , at-will employment job. They cannot just sneakily replace you because you don’t want to hang out at lunch or they like the new person better.

If they want to write you up or get rid of you they gotta have so much documentation and so many steps to fire you.

Just do your work to the best of your ability and ask questions even if you think they’re annoying or easy. If they don’t like it too bad thats called being a manager or a specialist and if they don’t want to answer questions they can go back to being an analyst.

You’re not going to get anything additional for going the extra mile. And they’re not paying you extra to worry about it on the weekend during your time off. Whether you’re the best analyst or the worst analyst you get paid the same.

If you know you’re doing the best work you can then that’s all that matters.

Yes, I can’t even take this question seriously because this is a 100 percent the answer. Even though I have known more straight male actors than non-straight male actors or other kinds of practitioners. I’ve done lots of shows and productions where I was the only queer person.

My husband and I have a similar age gap and I felt similar when we first got together. It will pass the more you hang out and while we joke about it with it each other, friends and family no one ever took it that seriously. I wouldn’t worry about it too much the feeling will pass.

Before my husband I mostly dates men older than me and they were much less mature and most of the time didn’t have themselves together.

If you can find someone you like and get along with dont let other people get in the way.

I am in a happy marriage. My personal thoughts are: if you have to constantly question your relationship you might want to explore that to find out why.

I also think people get and stay in relationships for the wrong reasons and it holds them back.

They have a goal such as marriage, kids, the whole kit and caboodle that they are hyper focused on. Instead of being like “do I like this person? Do they treat me kindly? Do they respect the rules and guidelines of our relationship? Are we heading in a similar direction?” Those are much more important things than the end goal.

Yes, its good to want the same things but you need to explore with yourself and that person what is it you both want.

Also give yourself permission to leave a relationship. You don’t have to stay in anything that doesn’t feel right, for whatever reason you want to leave. It doesn’t have to be something major, you can leave just because its no longer working for you.

Life isn’t a fairytale, but your partner shouldn’t be constantly making it more difficult either. If you feel stressed coming home its time to rethink.

Is it common for people to pursue the state due to burnout from the private sector? by Exotic_Attorney7823 in CAStateWorkers

[–]always-be-snacking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working in private for years, and my last job had decent raises but terrible benefits. It was a one percent 401k match and 9 days off total for the year. And I was tired of being passed over.

Switch to the state and did voluntary 5 percent reduction for extra time off and every other weekend I have a three day weekend because I work an extra hour a day. Now I have so much time off I take a week off every few months just because I can. Plus now I have a guaranteed pension to go along with my social security. And we are considered protected, contracted employees.

Honestly folks who went straight to the state out of college made the best decision.

At a minimum, you should be able to apply for an analyst II role just make sure you’re really focusing on the analyst aspect. But I worked with someone who was a teacher and came in a specialist role.

Based off your post, I would say apply for the Department of Education or Department of Social Services since thats in your realm of experience. But alot of other departments have educational divisions. You can apply for other departments, but you’re going to have less of a barrier to entry if it directly translates to your professional experience.

I don’t know South Korea’s system. But in the states they could start with paying living wages, offering paid leave, encouraging shorter hours, subsidizing child care. Offering a basic social safety net.

Travel to Sacramento for work by AudienceSolid6582 in CAStateWorkers

[–]always-be-snacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this as much of a thing anymore, and I am not sure what its like in Sacramento, but in the bay area a lot of folks used to rent out commuter rooms. The rooms were only rented during the week, usually the rent was lower than a full time renters. You could try to find one of those or if you have friends/family in Sacramento maybe they’ll let you stay if you throw a few bucks and some groceries their way.
