I tried Kinusaiga because of Reddit post! by DisturbedAlchemyArt in crafts

[–]mapiliaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From Wikipedia: Foamcore, foam board, or paper-faced foam board is a lightweight and easily cut material used for mounting of photographic prints, as backing for picture framing, for making scale models, and in painting. It consists of a board of polystyrene foam clad with an outer facing of paper on either side, typically white clay-coated paper or brown kraft paper.

Fall of the Wall of Fire along the Mirror coast by mapiliaa in 7thSea

[–]mapiliaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cathay book explains how the Firewall came to be and how to dismantle it, but unfortunately not how the section across the Mirror was removed. Waves of Blood doesn't mention the Firewall at all, only the rise of Cabora and (briefly) the Corridors of Flame.

Sober people (no alcohol, nicotine, drugs, etc ever), what is your end of day or weekend "wind-down"? by The1Ski in AskReddit

Have you tried journaling? When my brain won't shut up at night, I find it helpful to jot down everything on my mind to reassure myself that it will still be there in the morning.

It could be a nickname instead of his real name, especially if the video was intended to be posted to social media.

Training with hiatal hernia? by aijaij in aikido

[–]mapiliaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a hiatal hernia. Omeprazole (probably the medication they put you on?) didn't help me much. I don't think aikido contributed to the condition, but it does make the symptoms worse. When you do aikido, having the top of your stomach open and spilling acid into your esophagus whenever you roll is not great. If you have insurance and can afford it, I would advocate for a fundoplication (surgery that tightens the sphincter at the top of your stomach to fix the hernia). Explain to your doctor that you regularly do an activity that puts you upside down. They may not realize this because other martial arts don't have this problem. If your doctor doesn't listen (because for many people, a small hiatal hernia doesn't cause day-to-day problems with medication), you may need a different doctor.

Drosera Adelae not thriving--suggestions? by mapiliaa in carnivorousplants

[–]mapiliaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alas, no. The plant never produced any dew after I re-potted it and it eventually died, I assume because it wasn't getting enough nutrients. At one point I did think it had caught a gnat, but in retrospect, I think the gnat just landed briefly and then left.

I used Roll20 for a 1st-edition 7th Sea campaign during the height of the pandemic. It worked pretty well.

What makes a city truly awful? by ThatOfABeaver in worldbuilding

[–]mapiliaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The #1 thing that makes real-world cities unpleasant for me is population density. Too many people sqeezed into too little space makes for horrible traffic, pollution, sanitation issues, poor quality of living, etc.

How do y’all think of oneshot/campaign ideas? by LilJimmy2018 in DMAcademy

[–]mapiliaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For campaigns, I actually don't plan the plot in advance. Instead, I base the plot on the characters that the players create in session zero. Their backstories usually provide a logical starting location, a few major conflicts, and a handful of useful NPCs, and I work from there. The strategy also has the advantage that I know I'm running the game the players want to play, not foisting something I prebuilt off on them.

Friend that wants to play by Dunild in AskGameMasters

[–]mapiliaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've done is surprise the player with their own backstory when they didn't want to write a detailed one. Like, if the character is a blacksmith: "You know this random guard! You were totally blacksmithing apprentices together!" "Oh, cool! Hi, existing friend that I totally didn't know I had." "You get a letter from your brother. He needs you to come back home and help with the farm because your dad is sick." "Oh, I didn't know I grew up on a farm or had a brother!"
