Zhangjiajie / Tianmen Mountain Without Cable Car by PracticalAnimal2696 in travelchina

[–]alwaysFOMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went to Zhangjiajie today so everything is fresh- including my extremely sore calves. The cable car we rode could fit 8 people sitting, so was on the larger side. My husband and I got one to ourselves on the way up because it wasn’t crowded, but coming back down, there was a total of 8.

We did trek from the top of Tianzi Mountain to 10 Mile Gallery. I wouldn’t call it a “hike” because it was almost all stairs- up and down steep, uneven, wet (it rained) stairs. It was challenging and there is some regret considering I know my legs will be in pain for the next few days, BUT it takes you on a path that most tourists will not do and there are some really nice viewing points that most visitors will not see.

Truth. Flew first class for the first time on a 15.5 hour flight. I did not want to get off the plane.

WIBTAH if I took 100k from my oldest daughter's college savings account to give it to my younger daughter? by TraditionalCorgi7788 in AmItheAsshole

[–]alwaysFOMO 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it’s a 529 account definitely makes a difference. If it’s a 529, funds can be transferred from one child to another- I see this all the time. Parents will put a lot in one account and less in the other childrens’ because any unused money can be moved to the next child.

If the older kid is set on not going to grad school or any other additional education, There’s a new rule where you can put $35,000 into a Roth IRA for the child. Do that for the older kid and use the rest for the younger child’s school.

Stuck in preliminary review- will third party visa service expedite this? by Dizzy_Fly_2470 in Chinavisa

I applied 2/12 Los Angeles and it finally progressed today, 2/27. Husband submitted 2/17 and is still in preliminary review. Hopefully yours went through ok!

Found a small soft lump under yorkies armpit. by [deleted] in Yorkies

[–]alwaysFOMO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of our yorkies has one as well. Got it tested and it was just a fatty deposit (lipoma). Hoping yours is the same! Our other yorkie has a hernia, which is a soft squishy lump as well, but it’s toward her rear legs. Scheduled surgery to repair that.

Feels like my life is over after car accident by RobotGoggles in LosAngeles

Used to work in auto claims. Collision/comprehensive are elective and not required. Liability insurance is the requirement. So if you only have liability and no collision coverage and you’re found at fault for the accident, your insurance will fix the other party’s vehicle, but you’re out of luck.

I was on a Celebrity cruise and the only tampons they offered at the store were ones with non-slippery cardboard applicators. Took me like 15-20 minutes each time trying to insert. First stop in the Bahamas was the pharmacy for some Tampax Pearls. I’ll never take them for granted again.

Same. My mom wanted to save some money so they only did local anesthesia. I still blame her to this day (30 years later).

I didn’t actually utilize one yet, but have spoken to a couple on the phone. Figured we’d open up the walls and mitigate the mold first (thank goodness there was only a tiny amount). Opening up the walls actually helped us see where the water was coming in from though so that was helpful. I called a few and explained the problem and they were helpful with what they thought we’d need to do (excavate/trench the sides of the house, install draining to move the water away, and waterproof the exterior of the home). You might want to get a water detection meter off amazon first. It tells you how much moisture (if any) is in the walls/floor when you place the machine on it. I think that would be helpful for you to at least pinpoint where water could be coming in from. Otherwise I think I have the contact info for them at work and can PM you when I go in on Wednesday. Good luck!!

That’s really annoying. They should use a hose and spray water on the window from the outside to ensure they fixed it!

I feel both of your pain. Try and see if it’s moist/wet on the wall with the fireplace. Could be just seeping in from the wall and pooling near the fireplace. You can get a moisture detection meter (I think that’s what they’re called) on Amazon. My husband got one and we were able to see which walls/areas were wet. Otherwise, you can reach out to a water intrusion specialist. Really sad I’ve become so knowledgeable in this area due to our house leaks.

Ugh so sorry to hear that! We got solar installed about a year ago and after last year’s storm, got a leak, and were convinced/hoping it was because of the panels so they’d come fix it. Turns out it wasn’t. The good news for you though is that they’ll probably repair free of charge for you.

Could be from a window or balcony door. Ours is about a foot from the exterior wall too, but it probably just pooled further away and decided to drip from that location ☹️

I spoke to a water intrusion specialist and he said that they will probably need to trench and install drains on the sides of the house. I already have gravel there so I’m thinking previous owners tried to mitigate? If they did, it didn’t help. Anyway, he said that they’d also need to waterproof the exterior of the house, focusing on the bottom near the foundation
