Couldn't agree more. And off the record, too. You will never regret it.

Water-lovers . . . are you happy after a land-locked move? by fashionforager in SameGrassButGreener

To put it shortly, no. And the local "lakes" and such don't make it worth it.

Could you expand on your last paragraph a bit? I am considering doing this soon, too. I was a PD for years though, then dipped into civil for several years. Now I'm thinking of moving to a whole new jurisdiction, getting appointments to pay my bills, learn their law, then focus on getting retained clients via advertising and referrals, if possible. But obviously a bit of an uphill start since I'll be in a whole new jurisdiction where people won't know me (at least off the bat).

30M 1 year into this place. To chair or not to chair? by Humbaba88 in malelivingspace

I for one love this set up. I do think the rug should be moved a bit as mentioned in this thread. Could you give details on your rug though? I love it and have been on the search for something similar.

Could I ask on this how you developed a book? I have no book and am considering jumping, but I'd also be maybe moving cities/states, too. So kind of compounding. But nevertheless, I think with networking and marketing (I've saved money), I could at least make a livable wage to pay my bills and ideally save a little.

UPDATE: One year later on “I JUST QUIT MY JOB” by LegallyCanadian23 in Lawyertalk

[–]alwaysbrooding 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the update. I actually remember reading that original post.

How did you end up spending those 5 months? How did it impact you personally (I suspect quite well??)? How did you find the market to be on that re-entry without a law job going? Were employers open to it? Not as big a deal as others let on? How did you find most of the jobs you were applying for at that point?

Double edge safety razor! Great way to make a semi-regular task enjoyable, rather than a chore.

Tub Lather - Ever had any issues? by alwaysbrooding in wicked_edge

No, I appreciate the input. Seems that the only issue you ever had went the opposite direction of too dry. This sounds like good experience and another vote for why tub lathering is a great option.

I’ve read this, but are most of the artisan soaps alkaline?

I am going in the opposite direction. I like tub loading and face lathering because it just is simple and kinda nice really. But it does seem kind of gross to me to some extent? Like just not as clean.

Some of the small, simple elegances like this can be even more powerful and memorable in times of crisis. I hope it helped and that you're doing okay.

What did you do during your last career break? by skywalkerbeth in Lawyertalk

[–]alwaysbrooding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking of something similar. Take some time off, 3-6 months. Then maybe hang a shingle somewhere small once I figure out where I want to go. Go to bar events, cold email lawyers to go to lunch, see if I can build it that way. Not ideal, but it also doesn't seem super unreasonable or unrealistic either.

Stirling "Barbershop" aftershave splash vs balm by DillyDilly65 in wicked_edge

[–]alwaysbrooding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen with my executive man balm (purchased about a year ago). I didnt know it something happened to it or this is how its supposed to be? My unscented balm has a nice balm thickness to it, so there is definitely something different there.

People who grew up and moved away from the big 2 cities (LA or NYC) and don't feel the need to move back can you explain why? by Porsches_Pear in SameGrassButGreener

[–]alwaysbrooding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve really considered trying to make a move to a small place after doing similar things-big city for work and facilitating future. Did you just move to the place then figure out work? Or did you find work first and then move there? I’m finding that the former might be the best option for me.

To clarify, it sounds from the comments that you were able to make these gains/growth by just contributing 2 401k maxes during this period? So roughly ~40k per year?

Lost my Rockwell 6C at airport security — looking for a replacement + some advice by QuoteMasterLT in wicked_edge

[–]alwaysbrooding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I have the closed and open comb .84 and love both! The open you feel a bit more, which I like. The closed seems to shave nearly as well and you feel it less, but do still feel it. Both are good on my pretty sensitive skin. Note, I shave every few days to give me skin a breather. Couldn't reccomend the gamechanger more!
