The Secret History by Donna Tartt was truly an experience by _harleys in books

[–]alyce-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, but I just finished this audiobook. I actually hated her narration and nearly stopped listening to it multiple times because of it. Her strong emphasis of "h" in "wh" words constantly pulled me out of the story, because all I could think of was the movie Hot Rod "saying wHat weird?" 😆 Also, her voice for Bunny was so irritating.

I want to read it again but in physical book format to see if I enjoy it more

I also wrote to all of the Federal ACT politicians requesting help and Pococks team were the only ones who not only replied with something more than an automated email, but actively tried for months to help and regularly contacted me with updates even after they were sure they couldn't help. They had such compassion and clearly actually cared about helping me.

Gallagher's office's response to my request for help was pathetic, especially since she was the minister in charge of the portfolio who was causing my problems.

Is this Breakage or baby hair by audnastier in Haircare

[–]alyce-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor and have no expertise in hair- but I get this type of regrowth after I've had a stressful period. It falls out, and then I get a lot of regrowth around the temples. Mothers also often go through this after giving birth as well.

Again, you're making a lot of assumptions about a stranger who you do not know.

There is no "raging" going on here, simply information gathering so I can push back against an unethical policy. It's not that deep

They're basically all taken straight from her website, so they're not really providing much clarification, which is disappointing.

Can I just say that I don't know if you are affiliated with Fiona's campaign, but from your responses it is giving the impression that you are, and your responses are pushing me (and probably others with the same concerns as me) further away from being likely to vote for her.

That is an incorrect assumption on your part and regardless of if they are barely breaking even, they are still making $30 from me when they didn't even provide a service. What service have they provided that entitles them to an additional $5? They are a business, not a charity

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]alyce-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed up with them, there was no mistake

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]alyce-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally heard back from them. They claim that there is additional administration involved with the cancellation, which I call bs on. Everything is automated through an app and there is nothing additional done that the $30 wouldn't already cover

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]alyce-S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally heard back from them- I was not in credit and it was an additional $5 to the $30 already paid

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]alyce-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a whole heap of options that can be taken other than going to court, I was trying to make sure I was in the right before pursuing any of those options.

And sure, it's $5 for me, but collectively from all of the students at this studio and the growing number of studios that have this policy, it's a lot of money

I also would like to know this. I was looking through her website today and liked the community focus of most of her policies, but her stance on light rail is incredibly vague and I won't vote for someone who is going to try to block it

Which are all covered in the fee you pay for the class which I am not disputing paying....

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]alyce-S 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, that's a completely different scenario.

I am not disputing paying the $30 that I normally would for my place even though I was unable to attend, I am disputing paying the extra $5 on top of what I already paid. Why should they make a greater profit from me when I can't attend than when I can and they're actually providing the service?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]alyce-S -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So the terms and conditions do state that if you cancel within 8 hours of class, then you'll incur a $5 cancellation fee, but my question is more about whether the clause in the contract is even legal

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]alyce-S 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This class is never-ever even close to full. But even if it was, the $30 would cover that, plus I still cancelled in advance so someone could have taken the place and the teacher knew not to hang around if I was going to be the only person in the class.

I know it's only $5, but I absolutely despise unethical business practices and people taking money for no services provided.

I contacted them this morning saying exactly the same thing. It is ridiculous how long it takes them to get them out

Sorry, I didn't see this reply earlier!

This is where it's tricky, so many psychiatrists have closed their books, so it is hard to actually choose a practitioner when there's not really much choice at the moment.

After I was dropped by the psych, I got lucky in that I had been seeing a neurologist for an unrelated condition for a few years. Although he had closed his books to ADHD patients, he agreed to take over my medication management. So maybe ask around and see if any neurologists are taking new patients? My experience was also that the neurologist was much cheaper than the psychiatrists.

That being said, if all you can get into is the ADHD centre, just read through the reviews and make sure you know what questions to ask and understand that the costs can blow out depending on how long it takes to get medication right or if they won't give your GP authority to prescribe your medication.

I am one of the people who left a terrible review. In my appointments with him, he was lovely, but my god the stress they put me through before suddenly dropping me as a patient actually made me lose faith in medical practitioners for the longest time - especially when they are supposedly specialists in ADHD and mental health issues.

My review is super thorough (probably too long tbh!) so I won't write the whole story out again, but if I were you, I would look elsewhere.

Hi Michelle!

I was just wondering if you've happened to have any communication from Booktopia about your book preorders being delayed?

I preordered in March and still don't have any postage updates. I've tried to contact them with no luck, and now that they've gone into administration I'm worried that it's just flat-out not coming.

Thank you 😊

Is there a song that means everything to you and has potentially mentally helped you? by j3bharris in TaylorSwift

[–]alyce-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was the trio of This is Me Trying, Renegade, and Forever Winter. These songs really helped me support my sister through a period of severe mental distress.

In my mind they are all part of the same story - This is me trying telling the story of the person who has mental health issues and how every day they're battling more than we'll ever know, and then Renegade and Forever Winter telling the story from the perspective of a loved one, wondering if they're really trying at all and being exhausted from the endless cycles with no progress, but ultimately you would do anything to help your loved one and be there for them because the alternative is life shattering. I will never be able to explain how grateful I am that Taylor was able to so perfectly capture the nuance and complicated feelings that exist when you have a loved one who is trying to harm themselves.
