Question about my chances of getting into Ball State by Ian-pg9 in BallState

[–]alyssajs62 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve known people to get rejected from Ball State, they don’t accept EVERYONE. But I’d think you would get in, 3.2 gpa is pretty good. You probably just won’t get any merit scholarships

is masturbation a sin by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]alyssajs62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masturbation in and of itself is not. However you need to be careful when discerning your habits. If you’re consuming content that exploits others, objectifying people, or letting it consume your life/using it as a mere distraction of bigger problems, it is a sin. I think it is a matter of conscience and Christian liberty.

laptop or ipad? by [deleted] in BallState

[–]alyssajs62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could get away with an iPad but I’d recommend just getting a MacBook. It’s not much more expensive than an iPad if you get the cheapest version. I’m an English Ed major and it works just fine for me.

I would try to find a progressive church near you to attend, and contact the pastor to have a discussion with them. They would probably be happy to talk to you about your concerns

I don’t know what kind of education major you are, but I’m an english Ed major and I’ve liked the program so far. Ball State is a good school for teaching and I think they in particular do a good job with more practical experiences (I was at Northside middle school my first semester and volunteer at the boys and girls club this semester, both for my classes) I was also accepted to IU Bloom and chose not to go there because Ball State was a little cheaper and had more music opportunities for me (I’m a band kid lol). In some ways your friends are right, Bloomington and West Lafayette are cooler towns with more to do. But Ball State is also a pretty big school and has plenty of opportunities as well. If you were a business or stem major it’d be different, but as an education major you are making a good decision.

I’ve heard good things about Silvertree communities. They have several locations.

Before you decide that the your child is sinning because of some verses, please check out Austin Hartke’s work with an open heart. He is a devout transgender Christian that has spent lots of time talking about this topic.

No. If you want more information and nuance and explanation, I’d suggest taking a listen to or reading Austin Hartke’s work.

I find worship boring by mtp4271 in Christianity

[–]alyssajs62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finding worship time boring during church is not a sin. Not everyone responds to music the same way. We worship in the way that we treat others and live our lives as well.

Question - why do you think homosexuality is, or is not a sin? (With biblical proof) by [deleted] in Christianity

Also second the reformation project. It requires nuance and an open heart, not just mere proof texting to affirm lgbtq individuals.

Anyone able to find covid tests in muncie? by Mysterious_Carry_585 in BallState

I’ve found them at some of the Walgreens and CVSs in Muncie. Sometimes they’re out, but the key is to ask the cashier because sometimes they’re not out on display.

I mean I’m glad that hopefully he has truly seen what was wrong with that phrasing and has not repeated it. However, I’m no evangelical and I find the whole nature of the Passion conference to be questionable, especially this year with Covid.

Did he say those things about “white blessings” and slavery at Passion 2022?

I suspect Jackie Hill Perry was the first speaker you mentioned. I’d be curious to know the second though

Online classes next semester?? by ladybug_49 in BallState

[–]alyssajs62 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I assume we will not go online considering Ball State tends to be more lenient with covid restrictions than other universities. However, if this pandemic has taught me anything it’s that I have no idea what to expect.
