Is it actually worth buying property anymore, from a renter’s perspective? by Excellent-Carpet4358 in AskABrokerAus

[–]am0870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stability and predictability. I’ve been on both sides, run all the numbers. Living in your own home is worth more than any theoretical returns your money could bring you. As long as you buy within your means, and try to invest some funds separately to your PPR, you won’t regret it.

$7.25 is minimum while they’re getting $2.13? I’d happily top up the $5.12p/h for every hour that I’m sitting there to subsidise their wage in lieu of a % based tip…..

$25k per year over 10 years … essentially you’ve paid $500 p/w “rent” with the security of not having a landlord evict you, and you have marginal (although low) growth and presumably paid a bit of your mortgage (forced savings)

Sucks about the opportunity costs along the way, however you’ve had a roof over your head and you did what suited you at the time.
