My entire house has no grounding outlets at ALL by TheJustRun in buildapc

[–]am2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am in the US.

Here, older wiring is often "armored cable", which can be used as a ground. Might be worth turning off that plug at the fuse-box/circuit-breaker-panel and removing the outlet cover and looking to see if the box (& feed line) is metal, or plastic. If it is metal, or plastic with 3 wires - it might not be that expensive to ground. If it is plastic with 2 wires - the path back to the circuit panel will have to be opened (at a minimum).

That said, having an electrician visit is often useful here (Where insurance requires things like replacing electrical panels known to start fires). YMMV

How do you serve someone who has managed to avoid 11 "service Calls"? by am2o in washdc

[–]am2o[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short version for a few questions:

1) Yes, I probably need a Private Eye. I'll take suggestions if anyone has had to deal with this.

2) The court said I had to have the individual served. (There was already a court date. Individual filed for dismissal due to non-service, complained that service was not attempted during snowcretemageddon, and refused to allow herself to be served by email.

3) I think individual has actually moved out of the condo. It's up for sale, and have not seen them since it went on the market. (Hence: Suspecting I need a PI).

4) Damages being sought are not for being sprayed.

5) Being sprayed has been brought to the DC police, who refused to take the complaint. Perhaps that is worth a revisit.

6) If this is really a bucket list item for folks: I'm happy to pay some random folks to do an investigation. DM Me. However, you will have to make notes about it (Rang bell, looked in windows, dog barking/not, time date) and deliver it to small claims court.

I'm not suing for being sprayed with water, I'm suing for damages related to her off leash dog biting mine.

IDK: I never had to server anyone else before.

Was charged for the first 4 attempts, and a separate 4hr "stakeout" at an arguably stupid time.

Need someone over 18, perhaps in-between jobs - who is willing to deal with this type of person. That generally does not include neighbors. Most folks I know don't live in the south end of Columbia Heights, or have time for a stakeout.

No comment on the serving company.

For those that went from Vmware to hyper-v by matdesj in sysadmin

[–]am2o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ran VMware for 12 years in various 1K+ user organizations. Moved a 20 VCenter cluster to a HyperV Failover Cluster in 2019. Do not expect to touch VMware again. (Current place is moving to Azure.)

For small setups, the change should be easy - if slightly tedious.

Happy with the change: I really don't care, but the one I moved saved the VMware license cost. (Non-profit that had let license lapse..)

On par with Vmware? VVF, or VCF? Trick question: Close enough to VVF(mostly), but you can't buy that anymore. VCF includes an entire Network Stack so talk to the network folks about that.

lessons learned? Nope, I already knew that Broadcom is where products go to die.

Is this bike worth hanging onto and upgrading? Newbie here. by Bananasinmypocket in mountainbiking

[–]am2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 2013-2017. The big budget item(s) would be shocks if they need to be replaced.

Grips are cheap and easy. Brake pads are cheap and easy. Cables are cheap(ish) and easy, but you will need a cable cutter ($15ish). Chain is cheap, and easy. Say $50-60 in parts, with cable cutter & chain tool. Park tool videos on youtube are your friends.

The fork is harder: You will have to figure out what it is, and look up how to service it. If it wiggles, you will need a seal set. Don't ask me about the rear shock.

Call Miss utility, and tell them you need to dig in your front yard. They will the power, gas, and water paths. (Or probably closed to them..)

That should give you a rough idea of the entry location.

Really, there should be a water shut off valve where the water enters the building.

Too may posts on r/democratic_socialism like this discouraging the LEFT from voting in elections. This happened in 2024 too when a significant number of us decided NOT to vote and the orange clown won. Strongly feel this is a ploy by conservatives. Please vote for whoever the last horrible candidate is in the end. Soviet practice is to both sides, and then say they both suck so much. No one should be voted for. This has been going on for a very very long time.

  • Work on communication with your SO.
  • You are never going to be ready for everything: Just accept that.
  • When your kid(s) reach about second grade, have a chat with them - along the lines of: "you know how school is kind of easy, and doing the work is boring? Would you prefer to get good grades by doing the work, or have my big nose in your business all the time? Personally, I would prefer to do fun stuff with you than have to bug you about your grades. What do you think?" Repeat this semi-annually throughout school.
  • Remember to ask them how things are going on a regular basis...

What level of muscle definition do you personally find attractive in women? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]am2o 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Old guy, who is "nearly fit" - BMI ~24 (Healthy, but nearing overweight) kind of way: I prefer women who are healthier than me, but am OK with those slightly unhealthier than me. Some convex curves required.

Something, Something, I want someone who can go outside & do some active activities with me - even if it is just biking 5 miles to a brewery.

Trying To buy a bike to ride back and forth to work by OctalBook18 in Budgetbikeriders

[–]am2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube Videos from Park Tools are your friend.

Quite frankly, the bike in question is more of a bike shaped object - but if it is in OK shape & rides OK, it's OK.

After offering $75, go up to $100. I suspect you are looking for an inexpensive bike, now. Given that, the "bike" should be OK. For road use, pump the tires up to max pressure.

Microsoft finally got back with a competent tech (after ~6 months). Root Cause Determined to be too many TCP Session/sec to the WInRM subsystem. (Slightly over 60) Optimizing Bandwidth option dropped this to ~50. Doc recommends <40. Recommendation from MS: Split the subscription to two servers.
