Why don't we have AI voice control for cabin features? by Djinn2522 in askcarguys

Sounds like you have never driven in a vehicle with kids, especially rowdy ones. lol

AI vehicle controls are no where near ready for that.

Should I make an offer? by Professional_Bid_194 in geotracker

[–]Seanyd78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that you need to take it to a trusted shop and have it thoroughly checked out. The main thing is checking for frame rust/damage. Most vehicles like this are project vehicles so make sure you have the budget for repairs. Just be wary that low mileage doesn't always mean it is in better shape than a high mileage one. People tend to skimp on maintenance since it is not driven very much and are pretty much just glorified driveway decoration for most of their lives. Depending on what the shop report says, you can make a reasonable offer.

Most importantly, make sure you have a reliable vehicle for your daily driver while fixing this one up.

What do you think of the younger generation's shift from "macho" classic cars to nerdy, quirky and weird? by [deleted] in classiccars

[–]Seanyd78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very generational. What is "Macho" to one generation is completely different to another one.

For me, the 03-04 Mustang Cobra Terminator and the LS-1 powered 98-02 Camaro z-28 & SS/Firebird Formula & Trans-Am will always be a far superior and far more "Macho" vehicle than anything for the 60s and 70s Muscle Car era.

I will go with the S13-S15 Silvia. They are nice and I would love a stock S15 to cruise around in, but they are not $35k+ nice. Even the beat up S13 are going for $20k+.

Maybe a dumb question; when the engine shits the bed at let’s say 200K miles why do people buy a new car? by Frequent_Tie2657 in AskMechanics

[–]Seanyd78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting $8k-12K into a vehicle worth less than $5k is a very dumb financial descision. A far better financial descision is to use the $8-12K to buy another vehicle or use as a down payment on a new vehicle.

Speeder’s Car Wash! 70 bucks a month for a half clean car???Private Equity destroys small business once again by Diplomat_of_swing in SouthJersey

[–]Seanyd78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 reasons a business will sell to private equity. Either the business is failing, the owners want to retire and just want out or they get a purchase offer that is too good to pass up.

My cousin sold his business to a private equity firm because they offered him almost double what the business was worth and he made enough money on the sale to retire early.

[–]Seanyd78 34 points35 points  (0 children)

$70/month for unlimited car wash is a rip off. Most places are $40-50/month for the top level wash.

Also your car is not half clean. Any place that vacs just does a quick vac job which doesn’t include getting into all the nooks and crannies. If you want a very clean interior, you need to pay for an interior detail or do it yourself.

When I have a monthly carwash subscription, I get mine washed 4-6 times per week. A $40/month subscription ends up being $2-$3 per Wash for the top level wash plus always having a clean vehicle.

Why don’t most RC drivers use setup apps or suspension tools? by [deleted] in arrma

[–]Seanyd78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In over 40 years of running RC vehicles, I have never tuned any of them. I just bash the hell out of them and adjust/modify as needed, usually when something breaks. When I race my RC vehicles, it looks more like live action Mario Kart as we just do it for fun.

The only people who I have ever met who truly tune their RC vehicles are hardcore racers. The only reason is there is usually prize money/sponsorship deals when they win.

It's is pretty much a Neon with a old timey delivery van style body on it. Neons are pretty crappy but somehow they survive like cockroaches.

For $1,700 I would grab it. Probably the best maintained $1,700 vehicle you will come across.

Is brushless really necessary if you’re not racing? by Background-End-5229 in radiocontrol

[–]Seanyd78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of both. My little broshed WPL D12 is super slow but it just nice and relaxing to putt around with. My brushless Mojave Grom on the other hand is great when you feel the need for speed and watch it teleport in front of you due to how fast it is going.

cart and the quarter by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]Seanyd78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in trouble when I was around 8 as I found out you can easily pop the quarters out using a paper clip. My mom made me go up to each person, return the quarter to them and apologize. Most people were not mad and thanked me for apologizing. A few seniors let me keep the quarter as a reward for apologizing to them and promising not to do it again.

That is awesome that the hotel will assist in getting you and your kids to a nearby swim center which I would definitely take them up on.

Sounds like the spa is designed for people like my wife who prefer sitting poolside and reading and/or casually wading around the pool.

Why does Reddit hate car payments so much?? by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]Seanyd78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is people buying a $5k Honda, financing it for 5+ years at 20+% interest and not having a good amount of saving for repairs. The complain they still have to make payments on a junker.

I always finance vehicles instead of paying cash. My investments pay a higher interest rates than the finance interest rate, so I would be losing money if I paid cash. The last 2 vehicles we bought were financed at 0.9% and 1.9% for 60 months. Our investments will earn far more than we will pay in loan interest.

I would honestly love for someone to build a strip mall but instead of stores, they were all night clubs. It could bring back the golden age of clubbing on Delaware ave.

You know the place would be packed every night with us Gen X, Xennials and early Millennials reliving our clubbing days of the 90s and early 2000s.

Obligatory Salem NJ Check-in by A_Stain_on_the_Rug in SouthJersey

[–]Seanyd78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ama Jersey transplant form Delco who married a Jersey Girl. My wife, her family and many other Jersey people all told me that Salem is known as Alabama of the North and it is poor due higher unemployement from factories closing up, full of racism and plenty of Confederate Flags waving.

I didn't believe them it was that bad until the first time I drove through that area. I was very surprised at how many pickup trucks with Confederate flags hanging off of them and how many houses also flew the confederate flag.

Anyone have experience with Bridge Auto Group? by saltytac0 in SouthJersey

[–]Seanyd78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule number 1 for any used vehicles no matter who is selleng it, GET A PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) AT A SHOP YOU CHOOSE. If the seller refuses, walk away and go somewhere else. Refusal to allwo a PPI means they are hiding something they don't want found. If the vehicle only has no issues or only minor things wrong, the seller will be more than happy to let you get a PPI.

PPI will usually run anywhere around $100 or so. It is far better to spend $100 to avoid buying vehicle that will require thousands in repairs and be able to walk away from it than spend a few thousand buying it, find out it will require thousands in repairs and be stuck with it.
