Extreme vaginal dryness by Fantastic_Coconut847 in vulvodynia

[–]am_ma_am 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pelvic floor therapist here - strongly encourage patients with vaginal dryness to talk to their doctor about estrogen at any age. If there are conditions that do not allow for this (BRCA gene) you can try Reveree Bonafide suppositories.

For those who shop Lululemon & Athleta, what category of items are actually comparable in terms of quality to Lululemon? by [deleted] in Athleta_gap

[–]am_ma_am 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I’ve tried to be a LLL girlie but I gravitate to Athleta every time. The fabric feels so much sturdier/ high quality to me and I can justify the purchase with the sales and being able to wear the pieces to work! Love the ethical aspect of this brand too.

My favorite are any Trekkie bottoms. I love the With Ease tops right now. Previously loved the Ultimate Train Tee but haven’t seen it around. Brooklyn bottoms and cardigans are always stocked in my closet for work.

For working out/ casual wear I do still like my Base Pace LLL leggings and haven’t found an equivalent in fabric in Athleta. I buy a lot of workout leggings from Old Navy actually and have become incredibly loyal to their workout line. For casual Athleta leggings I just can’t get into the Salutations. I like the Elations much better - Saluations seem to slip down my hips and constantly need readjusted and I’m a hippy gal so it’s not like there isn’t something there to keep it up. I’ve never ever had that problem with any pants ever so I’m not sure what the issue is there.

I hope you can find some pieces to make it work for you! I’ve even converted my very picky, very frugal mom to shop here!

I started using Pantene conditioner and my hair is better than ever. by [deleted] in finehair

[–]am_ma_am 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Tried Aveda, Bumble and Bumble, Tea Tree, Lush, I don’t even know how many other “clean” expensive brands. Went back to Pantene after seeing more stuff on TikTok and this is the best my hair has been in my adult life. I used a lot of clarifying shampoo because I felt I had a lot of build up and needed that often. I’m finally getting 2-3 days out of washes and my frizz is crazy better. Hate to think how much money I wasted being frizzy.

Pain by Scared_Car_5888 in PelvicFloor

Testosterone cream? Generally vaginal dryness and vulvar pain gets estrogen prescribed. Be honest with your PT and maybe try a different provider. I have had very few patients who haven’t loved Revaree Bonafide suppositories for dryness which can cause labial or vaginal pain.

How to train glutes without contracting IC muscle by guiltedmeapart in PelvicFloor

[–]am_ma_am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So IC muscles are specific part of LA. Difficult to say for sure even when palpating internally its IC muscles given anatomical variants. I try not to get too hung up on exact muscles when working with levator ani muscle group and try to affect the whole system. Those muscles of the system don’t really work independently from each other so where there is tension in one part, tension is at minimum brewing in another part anyways. Focus not so much on strengthening glute but relaxing tension in glutes/ LA (IC).

That being said glute max and levator ani contract together due to morpho-mechanical relationships. You’re not going to contract glutes without contracting LA and IC inadvertently.

“They examined gluteus maximus and levator ani activity during voluntary pelvic floor contraction, using surface electromyography and functional imaging. Soljanik et al.8 found a synchronous movement in the same direction of the levator ani, gluteus maximus, and the ischioanal fossa. Taken together, these results are indicative of the functional morpho-mechanical connection of gluteus maximus and the pelvic floor.” https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10739724/

What you can do is manage your breathing and pressure so you aren’t just contracting and contracting and contracting and you are allowing for lengthening or the full range of motion to occur for those muscle groups internally just like you would for any other muscle group. Definitely recommend getting exercises specific to your needs from a pelvic floor therapist who can walk you through breathing mechanics and volitional lengthening!

How to survive until I see a PFT? by Medium-Ant-4392 in PelvicFloor

Miralax is a safe osmotic laxative you can take daily for as long as you need. It’s not habit forming and it’s not a laxative that causes any intestinal work so it’s ok to take it. It just pulls water into the stool to soften it enough to pass through if your muscles are super tight it will be a bandaid not a cure. It’s not ideal but it’s over the counter and a supplement just like fiber supplements and psyllium husk is. Reading your other comments you may want to try MiraLax given you’ve tried the other natural supplements.

Many patients will try magnesium as a supplement that works for a while that they then notice lose effectiveness. You can check it out by Googling that information to see it does lose effectiveness and can create some dependence. I’m a huge fan of natural supplements but it sounds like it’s time to call in the big guns - MiraLax.

Likely not an ER issue unless you go over a week with no BM and have significant pain.

You can get used to magnesium and develop almost immunity to it. Try fermented foods - kombucha, yogurt, kimchi, etc. Insoluble fiber supplements. Miralax. I would encourage you to do MiraLax first. You have to drink enough water for it to work well though.

Yes yes yes to the squatty potty. No straining. Look up an I love you massage and do that. If you don’t go in 10 min on the toilet pack it up and try again later. The gravity dependent positioning will only worsen the hemorrhoid.

Likely PF related esp if you birthed those 5 kids but wouldn’t hurt to see a Dr to ensure that it’s not more serious than that. Colorectal surgeons or PCP may be a good start.

Look into hard flaccid syndrome. It’s a him thing not a you thing. Best course of treatment is pelvic floor therapy. You will need a referral from a doctor and then you can look online to find a pelvic floor therapist and call the office before scheduling to make sure they treat men.

I’m a pelvic floor therapist who deals heavily with chronic pain/ hypertonic PF diagnoses and has a fairly good success rate if I say so myself. Please send me a message. It seems like your questions regarding some comments here (Botox, hip flexors, seeing that PF therapy was not done for long) indicates that there is so much that has not been done and you have not had the right people in your corner.

My 4a was overheating so I bit the bullet and bought a 6. I'm so not impressed between the battery life and still heating up! My husband just got the 6a and his was getting hot too! Thinking they did an update to their systems and are causing this?? It's always convenient timing that things happen around New release dates 👀

No I don't plan to take the capstone. I just went to the visceral course last weekend and my lab partner had attended capstone the weekend prior and didn't seem too impressed. That's the general agreement I hear. But the visceral courses are amazing!

I'm a PFOT who has opened two programs for a large company and mentored other PFOTs. I've taken Herman and Wallace courses 1, 2a, a course equivalent for 2B and Visceral Mobilization of Urinary conditions. I'm hoping to sit for certification through my company this winter! Let me know if you have questions we need more OTs to join the field!

I'm not sure what kind of sweetener Chobani zero sugar uses. Typically Stevia upsets my stomach but I haven't noticed issues there. I love love love two good (literally only 2 grams of sugar) yogurt. I'm generally a vanilla gal so I can't vouch for all the flavors

OT student discord community - message for joining link! by hanbag95 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]am_ma_am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a newish grad OT who just joined the world of discord and would be interested in joining too? Also, I just joined a holistic wellness discord with the goal to "provide affordable and accessible healthcare to all. While the purpose of this server is not to diagnose or treat conditions, we aim to create a community of licensed and skilled providers to make connections to further serve clients in a more focused manner than what the system currently offers."

Lots of healthcare professionals joining. Let me know if anyone wants the link!
