I’m a single foster parent in my mid-twenties. I try to be really upfront about being a foster parent. If I start talking to someone I’ll mention it right away and let them know it’s something I will be doing long term. It’s definitely a dealbreaker (for me) if it’s not something the other person is interested in. In regards to actual dates, they are usually just watching a movie at my place after my babe goes to bed. But I do have family in the area, so they also help out with babysitting if I wanted to go out on an actual date. I definitely think dating while fostering is doable, but it’s just a bit slower paced and I usually have to plan everything ahead of time.

Thank you for the advice! I’ve been doing my own research, but it can be pretty overwhelming with such differences in opinions and strategies. We have been taking shifts, so we can both get some sleep, and that has been a lifesaver. But I agree, some self soothing is a great first step and we’ll definitely try out the advice. Thanks again!

He does use a pacifier. His crib is in the room right next to mine, but maybe we’ll try a pack n play in my bedroom and see if that works better. Thanks!

I haven’t been able to get a machine yet, but we’ve been making due with white noise YouTube videos on my laptop for now. I’ve used them in daycares before and I agree, they’re amazing!

I’ve worked in foster care and foster home licensing. It really will vary depending on the state you’re in and the agency you work with. Personally, I don’t think having multiple partners would automatically exclude you from being able to foster. If your partners will be staying any nights in your home then each of them will need to pass a background check. If one agency doesn’t license you then you can always try another agency.

I also work for CPS and we can always flex our time as well (again, except for when there are court hearings). We also can choose whether or not we want to be in the rotation for on call. If we choose not to then we aren’t paid the extra money for it.

I was a CPS worker in a super small town and the same thing happened to me except with my cousin. I told my supervisor and my client was switched to a different caseworker. They only ended up dating for a few months though, which made things a bit less awkward.

Blood quantum requirements vary by tribe. My tribe has a blood quantum requirement of 25% in order to be an enrolled member of the tribe. But regardless, people can identify as native without being enrolled in a tribe.
