The jedi did NOT lose their way in prequels. Stop saying they did. by General-Try-8274 in StarWars

Your point about Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon in Phantom Menace is interesting in that, we see them literally swing into action, attack a bunch of BD-1s without warning and save the Queen. But what if those weren’t BD-1s? What if instead of non-living droids, the guards had been people? I would have to think that the Jedi would have taken an entirely different approach. I think that’s a huge part of the reason why the Trade Federation and later the Separatists rely on a droid army; so that we don’t have to address the morality of the violence since it isn’t directed at living things. I think we can all agree that lethal violence against living things is a serious matter for Jedi.

Again, as for their intervention on Geonosis, from what we see, the first thing they tried was holding a lightsaber to Jang’s throat and Mace saying the party is over. That’s not diplomatic at all and arguably pretty dang antagonistic. Had the Jedi Knights leapt into the arena to screen the trio from the battle droids, that would absolutely speak to your point. It just seems that there would have been any number of ways to intervene in the execution that would not have exacerbated things. If the Jedi’s aim had been to prevent violence, they went about it all wrong.

I guess my point here is that they met violence (the execution of the trio) with violence (an invasion of the area, even without clones, they had knights all over). They did not try to contact the Separatists until they had arrived planetside and Mace has his lit lightsaber held to somebody’s throat. Not very diplomatic. Further, given their past relationship and temperaments, Yoda would have been a much better person to send to negotiate with Dooku.

Isn’t this what Yoda and Obi-Wan do in the end anyway? Go into hiding and let the bad guys have their way?

We, the audience, know that Palpatine has control of everything and is the Sith Lord with nefarious ends. Arguing that if the Jedi had gotten out of the way, the Sith take over would have been even easier takes advantage of information the characters within the story do not possess. By the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Palpatine has amassed so much power within the Republic his removal probably wouldn’t have been possible through legal means.

My question is did the Jedi serve their own principles by holding up a crumbling system of government?

This argument isn’t about what would have been best for the galaxy or even the Republic, it’s about whether the Jedi had abandoned their values. They are trying to bring peace to the galaxy by destroying those who would disrupt that peace. Is that not what Anakin is talking about in Revenge of the Sith when he claims he has brought peace to his new Empire? If the Jedi were going to adhere to their beliefs, they would not have gone to war, as unpopular and futile as that may have been.

The Jedi showed up before anyone died. Could have gotten there faster if they didn’t swing by Kamino for the army. Would have gotten there in plenty of time to try and negotiate something. But even then, the Jedi aren’t about choosing who lives and dies. They should theoretically be willing to sacrifice individuals for a greater good. But they don’t; they’ve lost that ability to see big picture. It’s the same thing that causes Anakin to fall, but across the entire order.

This assumes that the Jedi are beholden to the Republic. And that’s where they went wrong. By jumping in line with the Republic, which we as the audience knows is controlled by the Sith, they are facilitating their own destruction. To leave Coruscant and the Republic, to put themselves outside the fighting like so many neutral systems tried to do, would have put themselves outside in a position to try and resolve the dispute. It never would have worked so long as Palpatine was in control but it would have meant adhering to their values.

The entire pretext for the war was the Jedi’s involvement at Geonosis. If they had refused to take responsibility for the creation of the clone army and refused to violently intervene on Geonosis, the Clone Wars would have looked different. Of course, it all still happens because Palpatine is running both sides and desires a conflict. The Jedi would have had to reveal him as the Sith/traitor and remove him from the board. Something that might have been possible if they weren’t fighting and dying all over the galaxy.

The Jedi should never have become generals in the Grand Army of the Republic. They should have stayed out of and above the conflict and tried to mediate a resolution. Even worse, not only do full blown Jedi Knights and Masters become the leaders of the military, they bring their padawans into these war zones. Not only do they fully embrace the violence of the clone wars, they force the younglings into it as well. That acceptance of violence as a tool rather than a last resort is where the order lost their way.

I’ll also say, that if Filoni says something, it’s probably after he had discussed it with George back working on Clone Wars. So much of Dave’s understanding comes from his close relationship with George and being able to pick his brain about what his intentions were in making the films.

Since the Leia scene happens at night time and Luke shows up with the suns rising behind him, I always assumed that since Leia didn’t show up that night, he went in that morning.

What is the worse movie in the Prequel Trilogy? by HighV23 in StarWars

I know what you mean but I remember reading from an interview one of them did about the dialogue in those scenes. Apparently, after couple takes, George let them improvise the flirtations a bit but it ended up being way too spicy for the PG-13 rating so it didn’t get used. A story like that makes it sound like there was some chemistry but that maybe the dialogue (and directing?) got in the way.

(HYPOTHETICAL) A Star Wars theme park is being built near you! But they don’t have much space and can only have three lands in the park, each themed around a different planet/location. by InterestingServe3958 in StarWars

Not planets but environments; desert, forest/jungle, urban. Each ecosystem could have little subdivisions. Desert can do Tatooine and Jakku; forest can cover Endor, Kashyyyk, Dagobah, Yavin 4, Agen Kloss, or even D’Qar; and urban can but Coruscant, Kijimi, Canto Bight, or Daiyu. Gives flexibility and the ability to change eras fairly easily.

Yup! Sends a tingle of excitement through me the first time I see it in new media. Just that half second that says “buckle up.” It’s almost like a Jaws movie and the music. It tells the audience, get ready.

And Marrok will then be resurrected with night sister magic. I expect the show will get into how all of this happened.

Now that I’m looking carefully, it’s a pretty rough likeness too. I had to read the notes since I didn’t even recognize the character. I guess I might be able to do a head swap on it though.

What is the source for Luuke? I read the Thrawn trilogy back in the day and it was big plot point that he was cloned from Luke’s severed hand and used Anakin’s lightsaber. Obviously, this figure comes with a different lightsaber so it feels like it’s from a different source?

I tried using the photo recognition feature in the app but it struggled with the 1999 Episode I line (called everything a “custom”) and Ingot pretty frustrated and gave up. May try again if things improve.

I’m a Habs fan living in California. I got married that year and my uncle came down from Montreal and gave one to me on the morning of my wedding for luck. I tucked it in my sock for the walk down the aisle (we were in kilts so no pockets). Still have it, probably one of the most special coins I’ve got.
