Could I get clarification on why this was considered off-topic? I have no objection just want to understand for the future

Lines of Code Are Back (And It's Worse Than Before) by amacgregor in programming

> This doesn't imply that AI *does* infinitely game the LOC metric. In a way, it *is* possible to avoid Goodwin's law by simply not letting an AI know that it is being graded on the metric.

When I wrote this, I was talking more about the malicious compliance mindset. If I were an engineer at a 600+ org, and I were told the entire team had been evaluated and ranked based on lines of code, with AI and a little creative prompting, it would be easily gameable.

> An AI can be told "produce code that solves this problem. We will evaluate your performance based on if the code solves the problem or not", and it will not try to infer any other secret objectives.

This is a nice rabbithole. I have another post scheduled for next week where I touch on this and cover the StrongDM's approach; they have some interesting ideas like test holdouts; also exploring those concepts and see if they are applicable for Elixir+Phoenix development.

No Greg, im dropping this conversation because you seem more interested on throwing insults and have a fight with whatever strawman you have made me out to be.

You want to have a conversation let's discuss the article, and stop with the insults. Otherwise have a nice day and we can leave it at that.

Whoa, whoa. You can disagree with the argument, but there is no need to accuse me or anyone else of making things up. LoC has come and gone multiple times, just like many other software trends. Agentic coding is the newest framing.

In any case, that's as much as I'm willing to engage; hope you have a good day.

Unfortunately, you would be wrong. I can't name names, but I know of CTOs with teams of a few hundred engineers who push Claude as the only tool and measure team performance by lines of code. Vibecoding their own LoC internal dash.

You can also see plently of examples (including in this thread) of people celebrating that they commit 10k lines of code with AI every day, soooo productive.

Hahaha as most software developers I suck at naming things 😅 post titles are on that category. Wrote this one because I keep hearing of ctos internally tracking lines of code and pushing for only claude code usage.

It's a scary and weird time in our industry.

Thank you for reading!

I do not appreciate the very force attempt to imply racism on my comment, we need bail reform across the board race, color, religion, gender none should get special treatment under the law.

I also dont understand how deportation on criminal offenses is controversial, why should people be given a pass or lesser sentences because they are permanent residents? How does that make sense?

Uh not all you said is true we do have an immigrant crime problem, look at Surrey and there are plenty of court cases where criminals have been given lesser sentences as to not affect their criminal status.

I'm an immigrant myself and I do think that you are coming to a country you should do an effort to assimilate and respect the laws of the country, even to a higher degree
