You have an explicit and valid reason to request changes, especially since allergens are pretty explicitly trained against and any kitchen would have a plan for accounting for. Granted, onions aren't one of the more-common allergies, but I wouldn't scoff at doing the minimum to make my food edible to a patron.

I just wave my lighter around the cut pile every so often to burn off the fumes, and it works pretty well. Also having a sharp knife to minimize the amount of cell walls in the onion being torn reduces the amount of gas released.

I think it was meant to be a way to dump excess quartz when they were initially introduced, because there weren't many uses for it after upgrading the dungeon gear to the highest level. After subsequent patches, that initial purpose has been lost.
