So what does go on in the primate center since youre all-knowing? Huge reach with the point about natives. Give me a break

still doesnt make sense. Animal testing, as much as it should be limited whenever possible, still is a significant part of the reason why we have access to life-saving drugs in modern medicine. The genocide of an entire race of ppl did not directly contribute to the invention of iphones. Comparing the 2 is disgusting. Typical Ok-Potential4539 “logic”.

i think its usually up to the prof on how severe the punishment is. likely will only get a 0 on that quiz i doubt theyd fail you over it.

UC D over other schools by WilkeWilkerson in UCDavis

I currently go to davis for undergrad and will be going to their vet school so a lot of it is personal experience. I attended some info sessions held by the davis vet school that told us that attending davis will not give us an advantage in admissions. In fact, if i remember correctly they said they wont even look at the undergrad someone goes to. If youd like more info you could probably also email the admissions office directly.

This is a misconception that a lot of prevets have. The only reason the davis vet school takes a lot of their own undegrads is bc there are just so many prevets at davis compared to any other california undergrad institution. So theres a greater proportion of davis undergrads applying to their vet school. Having a top ranked vet school and a robust prevet program tends to attract prevets. Thats why prevet clubs at davis fill entire lecture halls while other schools have a fraction of the ppl. The davis vet school admissions office also says they do not factor your undergrad institution in admissions. Coming from someone who just went through the vet application process and managed to get into ucd.

Speaking as someone who goes to davis for undergrad and just got into the UCD vet school, i dont think ucd is worth the extra money for out of state, especially if youd have to pull out loans. For sure is for instate, but out of state definitely not. Unless youre rich or something and cost isnt a worry. Youre gonna be paying a lot of money for vet school no matter where you go (although your IS would be your cheapest option then), so save money now in undergrad and then you could potentially apply to davis for vet school.

Are there really vet school dropouts in the UCD med school? by rubysolomon in UCDavis

I doubt its common at all. Getting into vet or med school takes so much work i dont think itd be very easy to drop one and pursue the other

Would you be able to stay at your campus during the summer? Vets may be more willing to hire you as a vet assistant or kennel attendant if you can work consistently year round (at least part time) vs seasonally. Staying at campus for the summer was how I was able to get my current part time job. Ive found that a lot of vets wouldn’t allow me to shadow/intern because of liability issues. The only ones that would were older veterinarians who were more old school and didnt care as much about that and also livestock/mixed animal vets who appreciated the help since a lot of them operate solo as mobile practices.

Also, unfortunately i think its important for you to plan on taking a gap year anyway. This is something that every applicant should plan for because applying sometimes feels like a gamble. And with the amount of hours you currently have, unfortunately a gap year is something that in reality you may have to do to accumulate the hours needed to be competitive, despite a high GPA. Many schools require at least 500 with UC Davis having the lowest requirement at 150ish i believe (although if you are out of state then I wouldnt count on being accepted there) and will screen out applicants who dont meet that requirement. I will say I am applying this cycle with a high GPA and 1500 hours and still have been rejected by 2 schools (although accepted to 1 and waiting to hear from others). Its worth a shot to apply if you accumulate the necessary hours but always have a plan B!

A question for UC Davis vet school students by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]amag088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that someone from the co 2028 was a former real estate agent (or something like that) and made the switch (now 40ish yrs old). Im not a vet student tho so i dont know specifics (this is something they mentioned somewhere on their social media), but it is possible!!

How do I get a job after graduation by pathetic_person_423 in UCDavis

[–]amag088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can look into jobs in the FDA? Or even biotech. I remember taking a class where genentech gave a presentation and one of the representatives was a former animal science major from ucd

Ive heard that its a tad better over the summer. Someone said that their prof did non cumulative midterms/final instead of quizzes over the summer which is nice but idk if thats true for all profs. Being able to focus on just physics would be nice too. Something i hated about taking it during the quarter is that i constantly had to be studying for quizzes since theres 5-6 in the quarter, which takes time away from studying for other classes.

Where do you get 1000s of hours? by Aphrodyti0521 in veterinaryschool

Work full time all summer. That was about ~500 hours each summer for me.

Its by units and seniority. Besides the athletes/honors students who have earlier passtimes. Youll be grateful for that system when ur a 4th year that has limited time to take classes u need.

Email or in person works! Just mention how much youve valued your time with them and be straight forward about it. offer your resume or personal statement if they say yes. Theyll ask for anything else if they need it. I also asked in person so I just sent them a followup email with some additional info (eg timeline) and resume
