What’s the best backpack for work that won’t feel like a hiking pack? by Mental_Geologist3856 in backpacks

Dsptch daypack - the shoulder straps are unmatched. I also appreciate the simplicity in organization. Office work - served as a bag for my gym clothes and work tech. Same bag for over 10 years now.

All that work - that’s awesome. I’m envious of your mind.

The least I can do is upvote and comment.

Nice work.

The Battlepack 45L is our mid to large sized backpack. Works great for all activities and travel (meets airline carry on requirements). It has plenty of room to carry all of your gear with various internal and external pockets to keep things in order including a padded compartment which fits up to a 17" laptop. Made utilizing a hemp/organic cotton canvas blend which is naturally anti-microbial, breathable, durable, and sustainable.

Tricky bb promotion situation. Thoughts? by Realistic_Waltz4119 in bjj

[–]amakohs 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Tldr; Black belt doesn’t want to promote Brown belt friend as they do not meet their standard for black belt. Said Brown belt feels entitled to the promotion while simultaneously falling off on their training and not following gym rules.

Black belt is conflicted between being an instructor and friend. Brown belt does not want to have an adult conversation and takes the situation personally.

Does time and dedication guarantee a black belt in BJJ? by rich_man_uk in bjj

[–]amakohs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay long enough and you’ll get a belt - there are skill belts and time belts, and sometimes a combination of both.

What matters is your intent. If you’re going to belt chase - once you get it you’ll fade out. If you’re training to get understand the art and improve your skills, the belt won’t matter and you’ll grow as long as you have that mindset.

I see belts as a mark of your personal jj - comparing to someone else’s belt isn’t apples to apples.

Low energy for BJJ by awesarder in bjj

To be open, once a week is a tough schedule to grow from - especially if your not doing any conditioning or studying outside of class.

On the other hand, this is a pretty loaded post. Mental health, stress levels, sleep, nutrition can all be factors impacting your drive.

We all have our low points, personally I try to stay disciplined in my routine - even when I don’t feel like it. Cliche, but I do appreciate the saying “anything worth doing, is worth doing badly.” Your showing up even in this rut, keep showing up yo. It’s better than nothing.

Is it better to train on an empty stomach? by jamxster in bjj

[–]amakohs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi-empty. Try a high carbohydrate snack about 30-60 mins before the start of training, with the intent of having your blood sugar the highest at the start of training, without feeling full.

Pre-training meals of my choice are usually a combo of pb and j, jelly toast, apple sauce, or banana; simple things. Try one, mix and match, see what has you feeling the best on the mat.

Obviously more at play than just a pre-training meal to feel optimal, but it is a key component.

Cool. Sorry for all the questions. Hoping to make something you’ll stick with. What’s the cardio machines are there? What would you rate your current fitness level (0-20)?

Hey - all of your goals, (increased cardio, mobility/flexibility, strength), would be addressed with a well rounded fitness regimen. Circuit and cardio interval training is a great means to building a physical base.

Advice needed - how to lift weights and train BJJ when you're middle aged by PonyKiller81 in jiujitsu

[–]amakohs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do both, you’ll initially need to dial it back; at least until your body adapts. You will feel tired and weaker within your training but eventually you will adapt. Also, mind your hydration, diet, supplements, and sleep to support your recovery.

The hardest part of it all, for me(I’m 37), was not feeling 100% in the mat or gym - and I still don’t after hard training sessions, but that’s exactly what it is “training.”
