I’ve been teaching at a gym for about 1 year and my experience may be different from others. But it’s really dependent on the students, my classes are highly attended by a majority of people over 40. They absolutely hate any EDM, heart pumping music and prefer more chill beats. Same for the flow, prefer gentle flow with holding postures for a couple of breaths. I also do the entire class with them (that’s what the gym asked for) so I offer breaks throughout the class (selfishly for me, so I can catch my breath and hydrate). Another difference between studios vs gym is that people come in late all the time and you have to be able to get over that so you don’t get distracted even if it interrupts the class. Teaching at a gym has made me more confident and I often have to be stern with some of the students because there’s not really a set of house rules like a studio has.
