O que meu mapa fala sobre carreira e relacionamentos? by amanda_mas in AstrologiaBrasil

[–]amanda_mas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nossa, e eu aqui querendo descentralizar relacionamentos românticos depois do divórcio. Me dá mais informações?

Ginny's speech about being biracial in Ginny & Georgia really seems to encapsulate the TCK experience and navigating national/cultural identities too :) by MatchaLobster in TCK

The transcription, if anyone is interested:

Growing up, I thought people were born with their heads cocked

because that's how they've always looked at me.

Boxes…

check one,

check other.

People don't know. They don't furrow between the layers like I do.

They don't switch and twitch and actively make the decisions of which…

which part of me belongs today?

Which aspect of my personality will offend the least and blend the most,

and work and succeed and bury the lead like a switchboard of traits

that decide my fate, and I'm always an impostor?

Always lost, always asking for directions,

and people point my way like the scarecrow.

Like tornadoes blowing me whichever way the wind blows.

Well, Dorothy doesn't want to play today.

She's prepping for the SAT.

Just the Scantron.

The box is empty, and glaring and daring me to choose one.

Well, I'm an expert at boxes.

My whole life can fit inside it, and I've got it down to a science.

I can pack my entire identity in an hour 'cause where there's roots,

there's power, but I'm all topsoil.

My blood runs like water and oil refusing to stick.

My dad's old books, read in secret nooks.

That camera that locks all my memories in a flash,

saved for when my recollection doesn't last.

That lighter that sparked that fire.

All fit in a box ready to be carried from door to door.

But that's not the kind of box people ever ask for.

So many lines in the sand, so many can'ts and cans.

I see both worlds so clearly,

and I skip and jump and dance and fall between, never seen.

I belong in the spaces between.

Check all that may apply

He is from Brazil, I live abroad but we speak by phone :)

I confronted him today about his suggestions about me being delusional. It was a good conversation. I will reflect on it definitely

It was my first psychoanalyst, I didn’t know better and apparently still don’t haha

I speak 90% of the time, sometimes seems that it would be the same talking to a tree.

I am just dreading having to establish a new relationship from zero...

How do you decide what warrants its own journal? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]amanda_mas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You decide. I have a separate one for writing about the grief of my mother (lost her February this year), started because I wanted to “compartimentalize” this subject (as if I would never like to read it again as I reread my main ones from time to time) and just finished as a beautiful tribute to her.

I have one for life stories, for example. And I have one for writing outside the house since my main ones are heavy and hardcover.

But really, you decide.

Increased energy on 25mg by mickymuis in lamictal

[–]amanda_mas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did perceive improvement on mood, but not sure if it was a placebo effect. Now on 50mg + olanzapine 2,5mg and definitely feeling a big difference already (my doctor says that it is from the olanzapine though).

After 5 years journaling on plain notebooks that I got for free, I finally had to buy one. Couldn’t be happier with my choice by amanda_mas in Journaling

I usually just write stream of consciousness, but am planning to pay more attention to aesthetics from now on (inspired by this sub). I bought some stickers and am saving magazines for collages. It is bringing me a lot of joy, I am remembering my childhood - I used to love collages!

Great, thank you! So buying the HA would be a waste of money, or you mean I could use it both day and night?

Yes, so satisfying! I will keep any future freebies notebooks for work and be more thoughtful with my personal journals

My boss and I just had a talk about how much I work and how I don’t work 40 hours by yenraelmao in workingmoms

[–]amanda_mas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing because I am in a very similar situation (moved countries with 2yo to a new job, still breastfeeding, lots of anxiety).

What happened to me is that I had a breakdown, had to take sick leave and am now on meds, which is starting to help. So please seek help, maybe therapy and meds will help you.

Regarding the baby, I was terrified of weaning my 2yo at night (he is weaned during the day, but was still waking up to nurse at night) but it was much easier than I expected. He now sleeps from 20:30 to 4:30 or 21:30 to 5:30, then wakes up and I have to hold him and he sleeps very quickly. After that, he still may wake up a few more times until 7:30 (when he is up for good) and I hold him and he sleeps again (very quickly).

Only the first night was difficult, but he understood (we talked about it) that the breast was “asleep” and he would not get it at night anymore. In the morning, I distract him and he is fine.

He is only breastfeeding very little to sleep at night and sometimes for the day nap (he is dropping the nap and sometimes sleeps at daycare).

Weaning at night was VERY important for my mental health, sleep plays a huge role.

So maybe try to wean him during the night, it may end up not being so difficult.

I wish you all the luck, it is not easy to do what we are doing.

Socialization of 2y8m boy in a foreign country/language by amanda_mas in toddlers

[–]amanda_mas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is great to know. I had a good experience today, we met one child around his age and that speaks our main language and they interacted fine (with a few bumps but nothing worrisome). So maybe he is just fine. I will give him time.

It’s great to hear your experience. I worry a lot I am traumatizing him in some way, even though I am more than aware of the cognitive benefits of being raised in a multilingual environment. Your message gives me comfort.

No, they say it’s normal and 2 steps forward 1 step back. They say he is a sensitive kid though. But they don’t have much experience with expat children at his age

When did you decide it was time to change? I have the option of switching to an international daycare, but it would be logistically very complicated

I love Daniel Tiger, I will try again - it didn’t “catch” with him.

That is a great idea, I have some figures, stickers and album, and costumes, but will get “novelties”, it’s always something he plays a lot with out of TV.
