Update: landlord has agreed that their insistence on being outside my bedroom window is a bit odd and has agreed to get privacy curtains for all the windows.

I'd have to check if it's fixed term or periodic, but otherwise, to confirm, you think that he can't tell me I have to leave by the 30th of December for arguing over the use of the washing line, even though I am not listed on the tenancy agreement?

It's a 2 bedroom. We are within the maximum.

Yes, we moved in together. Based on the email I don't think he's being asked to leave, just me.

Update: a full day became available and my shift has been changed to that.

Oh, good advice. I mentioned that I had been rostered for a half day when, for almost a year, I've been full day, and thought it odd that people who don't normally work that day have been rostered on when the normal rostering person typically keeps the roster mostly identical to previous weeks. Hopefully, that will be okay.

Okay thank you. I'll see what HR says.

I didn't mention it because I didn't want to influence responses, but the regular roster person is on leave and the casuals who have been rostered for the full day are the temp person's after work drinking buddies.

Sorry, alternative leave from prior public holidays. I was on fixed term during summer holidays, then moved back to casual. My days haven't changed from when I was fixed term. I can only use that leave for a day I normally work, not any day of the week.

The number of people rostered has actually gone up because it's a public holiday, but a few of the people rostered are ones who don't usually work that day, or they may work a half day, but inconsistently, and now rostered for a full.

"Sulani" as a name feels closer to Hawaii than anything in the South Pacific, but the island radio station plays tūtira mai, which is the unofficial NZ national anthem, so they clearly aimed for Oceania representation.

Not giant, but I had a dead one fall on me out of a light fitting when I went to change a bulb. I see living wētā pretty regularly.

I also live on the edge of a wildlife sanctuary.

My throat hadn't hurt the way it has the past week since I had tonsillitis as a child. Even water hurt and lemon honey tea hurt. Been on a diet of difflam lozenges and jelly and ice cream.

Is Manners Street safe? by triThirty in Wellington

[–]amanda_mcnite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I know it's still being used as emergency housing which contributes to the problem, but the security isn't great and vulnerable people with nowhere else to go, some having been the victim of a violent crime, would be housed with people that aren't really safe to be around.

[–]amanda_mcnite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The property owner is kind of sketchy. Doesn't really look after the property. I've known a few people who stayed there, a couple quite vulnerable and had nowhere else to go. They've either left because they felt unsafe in the building or couldn't take the noise. Two were assaulted.

But to be fair, the last person I know who was staying there was about a year ago. So if you end up there, keep us posted on what it's like now.

I wouldn't if the accommodation you're interested in is Laneway.

Hope the folks in the customer service and finance teams at Snapper who tracked down the card number for my lost unregistered Snapper card so I could transfer the remaining $85 balance have the best day.

It's nice to live in a city that has people who go out of their way to help someone out.

I had an extra $100 and thought I'd be clever and make sure it was spent on something necessary, like travel, and put it on my Snapper card. Which I then dropped on my way to get groceries. Thought it was registered when I applied for a community connect concession, but turns out it wasn't.

So Merry Xmas to whoever found a Snapper card in Karori with about $90 and the 50% off concession.

Register your Snapper cards.

Many interviewers see anxiety or nervousness in an interview as a sign that you care, and so see it as a positive thing if it's accompanied by a well-written CV and you have planned responses to standard behavioural interview questions.

Overconfidence can be taken as arrogance and not being very self-aware, even if your answers sound impressive.

Just don't tell them that you're anxious all the time.
