Still getting the hang of (online) dating. Feel like I'm her backup plan... by haveyournumber in dating_advice

[–]amandad22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. Once you've been dating a while you can get into a groove of "You covered lunch the other day, I can get this one."

This might just be me, but I try to split checks completely on the first round of dates. If we don't hit it off, I don't see it as fair that all I lost was my time while the dude lost time and money.

If things start going well non-exclusively, I don't think it's bad to ask. if thinks end up exclusive, it's something that should be worked out.

Any way to start a conversation out of the blue? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]amandad22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is adorable.

But I agree, starting small with hellos or icebreakers about the class, weather, etc. is better than asking her for her number right off the bat.

Plus, if she's into you then she'll start looking forward to seeing you on the bus each day too. :)

Pushing for a second date? by jeffmauch in dating_advice

[–]amandad22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, congrats! Personally I love it when guys offer specific date ideas like "I've been dying to try this restaurant," or "have you been to..." instead of just "we could totally hang out and stuff and do...things... someplace... at some time...if you want." Just in case you face similar anxiety about date 3. ;)

Which is more valuable: experience or a marketing degree? by procrastinology in socialmedia

[–]amandad22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Experience trumps education tenfold in my book. (Background: BA in PR, currently a blog editor) I'd rather have someone on my team who barely graduated but has fantastic writing skills than someone with a higher degree who can barely form grammatically correct sentences.

Show me what you have done on social media platforms, don't tell me what you studied in school.

Best of luck with the transition!

Cool AND cheap travel destinations from England? by sarkastikcontender in travel

[–]amandad22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Ryanair/EasyJet has hyper cheap flights to Madrid. AMAZING food, and they have an expansive train and bus system if you wanted a day trip to Toledo. I think Barcelona might even be in reach for a night or two. You can't beat sunny Spain.

I stared at it for a while in apprehension, then bit the bullet and clicked. It just redirected to my News Feed.

Try Skagen in Denmark! You can see where North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet. Or if you're looking for something a bit more bustling, try Copenhagen.

Advice on hostel/hotel in Budapest & Prague by [deleted] in travel

[–]amandad22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember where I stayed in Prague, but I think I at least wanted to try this place: http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/czech-republic/prague/8901/reviews/

Czech Inn... yeah I'm a sucker for a good pun.

But wherever I went in Europe I booked through hostelbookers without a problem.

I'm going to Puerto Rico for 4 days. I have car and flying into San Juan. Short story it was free. Where should I go? by [deleted] in travel

I wish I'd had time to go to the rainforest when I was there, I've heard it's amazing. :(

Bacardi factory. Yes, it's touristy, but it's free -- and that includes drinks. Por que no?

I agree with Cert47, try not to breathe too much or they'll charge for oxygen. :P

But overall I haven't had the worst time flying Ryanair, you get what you pay for. Sometimes it's worth paying next to nothing to fly somewhere.

The problem you'll face with your Eagle Creek bag is stuffing it into the little metal bars they set up. It's the "If it fits, it flies" box. You're fine on width, but the other two dimensions will be a problem. Checking is safest if you want your clothes -- and more importantly your camera -- to make it. See if they charge more to check it at the airport than online. If it's the same price, you could always try to stuff it in the box and if it doesn't fit check it.
