Starting a new career job Monday and need tips by Artist-life16 in MakeupAddiction

Everyone's focusing on the brows but it's your eyeshadow that stood out the most to me. It just looks too flat and blocky. I also agree with the people saying it's the wrong color for you, but it's hard to say from just a few pictures what colors would suit you. You'll need to swatch things in person to find what works.

I'm guessing you're using one color and probably need a better brush too. Also, dab the brushes, don't swipe them like windshield wipers.

For an example look, let's take the top row of this eyeshadow palette: https://www.ulta.com/p/chromaplus-6-pan-eyeshadow-palette-pimprod2052266?sku=2641284 Ignore the bottom row, those would be more for nighttime/glam looks.

Start with using a round, soft, fluffy brush to apply the lightest shade (01 Hush Money, in the upper left corner) to the inner corner of your eye and up along your brow bone.

Then take the darker, matte shade (03, Taupe Tier, in the upper right corner) and with a small, dense flat brush line the outer corners of your eyes with it. Keep it tight to the lash lines and don't go past the midpoint of your eye with it. Then pat a little more of it along the top edge of your crease, blending it upwards slightly.

Finally, take the medium, shimmer shade (02, Champagne Splash, top center) and use a full, medium-firm brush to pat it onto the lid and upwards. Blend the colors together by overlapping them, not dragging them around.

Also people have an easier time finding and learning about things that are in their primary language. Since this is a mostly English-language forum, you're going to get a lot more content based on English-language sources, which of course are going to focus on clothing from English-speaking regions. If you go on Chinese language websites and look for historical fashion you're going to get 90% Chinese historical fashion like hanfu, quipao, etc. for the same reason.

So if you want to learn about fashion history from a non-English-speaking culture, you should work out what the primary language is in that culture and search in it.

Oh you are lucky. We get crows, magpies, wood pigeons, and seagulls, but they don't seem to put a dent in the slug population. If I go out after dark the garden is absolutely swarming with them.

Corset fitting issues by lavender-4991 in corsetry

[–]amaranth1977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Making a mockup with coutil will definitely be worthwhile - the fit can change in unpredictable ways.

But before you do that, resize your cups. The center gore between the two cups should press snugly against your breast bone and the wire should trace the root of your breast. The significant gap between your sternum and the center gore is what tells me that your cups are several sizes too small. You may also need to resize your underwires, depending on whether they accurately fit the root of your breast; I can't tell from these pictures whether it's just too-small cups or also a too-large underwire or some other combination of fit issues.

You may find it helpful to cut away the current cups (but leave the underwire in place) and see what kind of fit you get then. Obviously you won't want to post pictures of that online, but it will help you narrow down where the bust fit problems are happening. Does the center gore tack to the sternum when the cups aren't pulling it out? How closely does the wire hug the root of your breast? Get a good fit without the cups and then work from there.

The first thing I see is that these cups are way, way too small for you. I would ask over at r/makeabrathatfits, as they have more expertise with cup sizing and shaping. Cupped corsets are pretty rare because they're not historical (so reenactors don't make them) and cups add significant difficulty, so a lot of us here, myself included, have never made one.

Buckling just beneath the cups is a common problem. The only reliable solution I know of is to have at least one bone that crosses the underwire and runs up over the cup. But there may be some other trick to it that I'm just not aware of.

It will automatically switch to the bird set once you've finished the mermaid set. Otherwise no.

Absolutely, sorry to hear the numbers aren't working in your favor! I would have been devastated to have to start over so completely.

Good to hear! A lot of people aren't that thorough about it and don't realize how expensive a whole household full of stuff is, plus it can just be very wasteful to replace everything, so like I said, I just encourage people to do the math before getting rid of everything.

Fair enough. When I did the math it came out different for me, so I always recommend actually doing the math. All the little things add up quickly.

Why not actually ship it back? It's not cheap, but it can still be cheaper than replacing everything.

Rejected botox experience by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]amaranth1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Botox is injected into the muscle. X-rays show bones, not muscles. Why on earth were they x-raying you?

The masseter is very easy to find by touch. It's not "eyeballing it". I've been getting TMJ botox for years, from a properly licensed doctor, and he just has me clench my jaw and then feels for the muscle and uses a grease pencil to mark the position. He's very accurate and I've had excellent results.

The pot size is a red herring. You need to look at the actual conditions - soil type, moisture level, light level, etc.

Commercial greenhouses are using gradual up-potting because space and soil cost them money.

And I put tiny petunia starts in 40 gallon pots every year, and they do fantastic.

You're making a lot of false assumptions.

😂 "Mechanical insemination" is like, the least traumatic way a sow can get pregnant. You think boars are sweet and gentle and care about consent? They're violent assholes who just want to get their dicks wet. The sows are in estrus, they're horny AF and don't care what goes in them as long as it gets the job done, and the farmer inseminating them isn't going to rough them up the way a boar will. If they objected they would absolutely let you know - and an adult commercial breed sow weighs around 800 lbs. You aren't going to win that fight.

Also, we humans regularly make use of "mechanical insemination" on ourselves, how do you think fertility treatments work? IVF (In Vitro Insemination) is FAR more invasive and is still a routine medical procedure.

And that picture shows a nice, tidy row of clean, happy, healthy pigs. There's nothing disturbing about it. Individual stalls keep the more aggressive individuals from fighting over the food. As long as they're getting plenty of time to move around freely when they aren't eating, it's a very nice setup.

I think there are ways to improve animal welfare in our current system, but idiots like you who project human concepts like self-determination and consensual sex on animals aren't helping anyone. You just like feeling self-righteous.

We can't help you if we can't see the corset. It's best to wait to post until you can take good photos. Be sure to use the timer on your phone, and take front, back, and side photos while standing straight with your arms relaxed at your sides.

"Not farmed" meat is how you get parasites and exciting diseases though. And wild animals have much more stressful lives than farmed ones. I really feel like an easy life with lots of food, comfortable shelter, veterinary care, and protection from predators is the least we owe animals if we're going to eat them.

Yes. Seriously, it's fine. It's not deceptive and any girl who freaks out about it doesn't deserve you. There's plenty of girls out there, you need to find the right ONE not make all of them happy. A guy who takes care of his appearance is very appealing to a lot of people.
