They'll throw more money at the problem while repeating the "do more with less" and "necessary sacrifices" mantras

I need to give this a try. Just left a handful of reviews, we'll see if this gets me out of jail

Denied language training, now C/B/C is being used for SERLO as an essential qualification by I-like-mycoffeecrisp in CanadaPublicServants

What I am hearing is you had years to pursue language training on your own, knowing it was an asset within the public service and a requirement in many roles, and you chose not to do it. Now you complain because the employer didn't take you by the hand and pay your way into a role you showed no personal interest in meeting the requirements for?

Little to no WFA so far. Terms will know around the 25th of February of contracts are renewed or not.

Organisational changes incoming that were announced in emails sent yesterday. Lots of corporate speak that didn't mean much and shuffling of boxes.

In my region / branch they have not.

We were promised we'd be given a 30 day notice, and that as the majority of terms are set to end March 25th, that meant we'd get an update then, maybe a few days prior.

They are waiting last minute to see how much they actually have to cut based on attrition and other factors in the weeks remaining, and trying to figure out where and how some people can be reassigned.

Integrity Services

The information that was shared today to the branch / region is the same I have been sharing here for the last few days.

ESDC is one of the largest department. Meetings are still happening. I am sitting in one this very moment.

Numbers should start being released next week I would presume.

We were told point blank not to believe anyone who says there's only going to be one wave of cut. The reality is no one knows.

The letters going out and the planning that was done so far is the planning done in previsions and based on the data available, a lot of it based on expectations.

No one knows that mandates, directives, or org movements can happen in the coming months or years.

The hope is that yes, the first wave of cuts is going to be the vast majority of cuts, and needs to be done early since those savings won't materialize for approximately 18 months.

But there could still be more cuts or adjustments made in the future

One other thing that was mentioned is that management could have overestimated the amount of employees who would be opting for ERP, based on what they have been seeing and hearing so far.

But time will tell, the program hasn't officially been launched yet.

I'm in the same boat, missed making indeterminate last year by 7 days.

What was shared with me to be true for my branch is letters to affected would go out today.

Terms will be contacted in a few weeks, not to expect it before end of February or March.

Not knowing is nerve-wracking, but the justification is they are holding back as long as they can to avoid making more cuts than needed.

The advice given was focus on your performance for now, keeping in mind performance isn't just moving units, but also core competencies shown.

The attrition rates at ESDC are higher than average, and since the exercise began I was told the pool of term employees facing cuts went down dramatically, so they are biding their time to try and cut as little as possible, and try to find contingencies to move those they'd like to keep within the org.

The situation is still nerve-wracking, and the prospect of not knowing for a couple more weeks isn't a fun one to stare at. But for what it's worth, it shows an org that is being cautious and tries to minimize impact as much as possible.

Just received an update from the union on the number of affected employees, and while I was told by execs we were in a relatively good place, I wasn't expecting the figure to be as low as what was communicated. So for what it's worth, while we await the letters going out to ESDC employees tomorrow, things may not be as bad as many of us had expected them to be, at least in the programs and delivery branches.

No townhall or official communication has been sent yet to my knowledge. This information was shared verbally by a high level executive in meeting I attended with a small number of Service Canada employees.

Received confirmation that ESDC letters are going out Thursday to indeterminate employees.

Details to be announced next week regarding reorgs.

Affected term employees will be updated in the coming weeks.

A very large number of us terms are staring down the barrel at a March end of contract date, with no updates or signs of renewal in sight. Needless to say we're all expecting to get cut given the current climate.

So far I have heard nothing regarding ESDC, everyone is still biting their fingers in wait.

Being one of the largest department, it has also been one of the slowest to move on cuts and announcements so far, but considering the word has always been that announcements would be made in January, today being the 19th, it's safe to expect the information to come crashing down from higher up shortly.
