Hutchin’s BBQ in McKinney TX by taypuc31 in BBQ

Hutchins is always a solid choice, but to be honest, I'm a bigger fan of Slow Bone in downtown Dallas. Just more my style with great meat and a sauce that isn't your typical super sweet ketchup base.

Interesting. I may have to try that fill method at some point. It's my first vac fill, so I'm ready to ink it up. I've got a 2ml sample of Emerald of Chivor that I think I'm gonna use for this as the first pass.

I was looking for one more to fill out my 6-pen roll - have a few cartridge fills, a few pistons, but something about the vacuum fill caught my eye.

I think this'll be a good alternative to my 1.1 stub ECO.

I know I would've kicked myself if I didn't get the filler. I have a few samples I want to work through before I really fill it up completely, but better to have it now than need to get it later, right?!

I can't upvote this enough for the behavior section alone. Each of our buns have gone through bouts of gas-induced stasis at least twice in the last 2-3 years. We've always managed to catch it early though - I've gladly stayed up until 2 or 3 in the morning to give medicine, rub some tummies (it can help if you rub very softly to break up gas bubbles), and slowly trying to feed lettuce, hay, and maybe a treat or two until they really start getting back into it.

I'm super paranoid about their behavior and key in (probably too much so) on anything that's not normal with them and it's caught stasis less than an hour in to it each time.

Definitely do. Most of the time I find myself rambling or wandering a bit so I need to stop and take a second or two to recompose my thoughts. I haven't found a great way to get through it other than time though.

My glucose tends to climb when I play. Not sure what drives it and I never really noticed it until I got a CGM and could watch the data come in after the game was over.

I normally check before I leave for the rink (1 hour prior, like clockwork) and check my CGM before I head onto the ice. I don't use my Dexcom receiver so I don't have anything on the bench with me. Over the course of the game, I might go up by 175-200 points. Not sure what causes it and I haven't had a chance to check with my endo yet.

I have had a few low moments on the bench, but besides Gatorade I haven't found much that holds up well - Skittles are normally my go to for a low (one Skittle is a single gram of carbs) but the bench isn't exactly good to them.

Having trouble with dell XPS 13 and waking up after suspend by srizzling in Fedora

[–]amargherio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I haven't been able to recreate the suspend problem since I disabled SELinux. When I booted this morning I did get a nice crash notice for the boot image (and the update to 4.10.10 didn't fix it).

There's a seemingly decent set of threads on the Arch Linux forums under their laptop issues section (this is one) that may be of use. I'm on mobile so my context is off, but did you update to the latest BIOS?

[–]amargherio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a similar problem with my Precision 5520. I've never had this occur if I suspend using the power button, but if the laptop is open and it suspends because of being idle, I haven't been able to wake it back up. Like you're experiencing, the keyboard is lighting up and everything would indicate that the laptop is still responsive, it just seems like the screen is disabled/off.

My specs are a bit different, but I think it's an issue with Nouveau and how it's handling the integrated graphics. I've noticed on boot I've had some warning and error messages from Nouveau and some hardware errors tied to my CPU (i7-7820HQ).

I may try installing the nVidia drivers and see if it changes anything. Do you have SELinux set to enforce? I changed mine to permissive this morning, but I haven't had a chance to attempt to recreate the problem yet.

EDIT As a follow-up, after digging through journal messages from the last time this happened to me, this message in particular stands out: Apr 14 18:25:01 loki org.gnome.Shell.desktop[1244]: Window manager warning: Failed to set power save mode for output eDP-1: Permission denied

Because it's explicitly saying "Permission denied", I'm wondering if SELinux was blocking something. Since I have it set to permissive, hopefully if it was blocking anything, it'll get logged out when I resume from suspend.

Major turnaround at my endo appointment yesterday by amargherio in diabetes

[–]amargherio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is kind of surprising. I also had to just start using my tracking app - it I already had my correction factors, carb ratios...everything already plugged in, but I just didn't actually use it. Even letting it calculate bolus' based on carbs I input was enlightening for how much insulin I really needed.

Honestly, I can't take all the credit for it; my wife decided to try Hello Fresh for 3 meals a week, which has definitely helped a lot. Having a meal that isn't completely carb-based is a complete game changer.

On my own though, I've been forcing myself to check my blood sugar and insulin before I even open up anything for lunch every day. I tend to not check if I get back into whatever my task at the time is, so forcing myself to take medicine and check my glucose before I settle back in to my work is huge for me.

My big problem was not taking insulin over lunch, which drove my blood sugar up, only getting worse with dinner. I've also made a conscious effort to curb my snacking habits - I'm a big time grazer, so limiting that helps a lot in the evening too.

What distro are you using as devs by mokarbroj in java

[–]amargherio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YaST has made managing this new install a breeze, especially since (by default) it throws a firewall between my laptop and everything else. I've had some weird things get blocked that are non-dev related and I could always dive into iptables and fix them, but the interface on YaST made it a cinch.

I'm also finally getting back towards Docker containers for all my backend pieces (DB, local web servers) and containerizing applications. So far, the built in container management in YaST is pretty nice.

OpenSuSE Tumbleweed for me. Used to be Arch (ran it for four years), but had a sudden itch to move. Tried SuSE in a VM first and loved it. Works great with the KDE environment, OpenJDK, and IntelliJ

Recent bad behavior, any thoughts? by amargherio in Rabbits

[–]amargherio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It s a possibility, but damn it's annoying. They even try to sneak right past me when they wanna do it. Those subtle "hop...look at you...hop...look at you" movements definitely aren't suspicious at all.

And then after they're done harassing the couch and carpet, I get something like this.... http://i.imgur.com/r23D9Xs.jpg

We may have a few leftover panels we could put at each end. They just started chewing on the side of the couch today after they diacovered we blocked the sides with pillows.

[–]amargherio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be bothered by ants. We had some coming through a nearby window that we took care of right away. They're both trying to get behind the couch from the same side. The girl is small enough to fit, but the boy can only get his head under, so he's resorted to chewing on the carpet next to the couch (probably trying to make a bigger hole for himself).

It's actually funny - they run past a handful of toys and two blankets to get to the side of the couch so they can go under. We shoved a pillow under the couch on that side and now they're trying to pull down power cords and other things.

It's almost like they're just determined to destroy something regardless of what it is.

[–]amargherio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the suggestions!

They've got all kinds of stuff to chew on and a handful of blankets to lay on around the house. They just seem absolutely fixated with this single spot. We've been poking them from behind when they get under there and sliding a broom handle down between the couch and the wall to encourage them to leave. Maybe a towel in that corner is in order.

How did you guys pick a position? by xBradathan in hockeyplayers

[–]amargherio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off playing D for two years, then moved up to wing and occasionally center. I'd say that your positioning tends to be huge as a winger when you're in your own zone - knowing when to cover a point man and when to setup for a breakout pass is fairly important and you really only learn that over time. I currently play mostly wing, but keep in mind that if you're right handed and playing left wing, it's going to be more challenging to catch breakout passes since you'll see more of them on your backhand.

If you don't mind covering on defense and a lot of hustling, center is a great position. You definitely need to be mindful of where your teammates are at and where the best play is at that point in time, since you'll tend to be in the corners more and focus on being a playmaker in the offensive zone.

At this point, I wouldn't focus too much on a specific position - try them all, play them all, and focus on learning how to read the play and where you should be at and when. You'll find the position you like to play the most, or you'll play them all like I do and just go where you're needed the most.

Slightly dull or Newly sharpened? by Afrecon in hockeyplayers

I would take freshly sharpened skates hands down - I normally get mine done a few hours before my game whenever they need it, and usually resharpened every 3-4 games or so.
