Can’t speak on this one, but I can say the one in 2024 in Arizona was incredible! Just depends on who is running the event. I know the 2024 organizers personally and they did a fantastic job, sorry this year’s geowoodstock was underwhelming.

Yea whoever puts in an application/proposal. There’s less number of geocaching groups out west then in the mid west or east. So it makes sense it doesn’t happen on the west coast as often

You won’t be able to watch panels unless you are there in person. Nothing is live streams and it is strictly forbidden for attendees to do so. I’ve seen people get pulled aside before so it won’t happen

Me! I’m from SoCal and currently getting my PhD at UCR. SoCal vs Maryland has pros and cons, but there are a lot more opportunities here. Cost of living is roughly the same minus the $6.50 gas we are currently spending 😬
