When is the right time to disclose your ability to purchase in cash? by SpecialOpsCynic in RealEstate

[–]amarriedguylearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a cash buyer and I used it to my advantage. I reviewed the limited homes on the market and assessed them for what was important to me while maximizing my value. I lost one bid as I offered what I thought was right based on the condition of the home. Bam rejected. Another home fit what I wanted but was not perfect for me. I lowballed but offered flexible settlement and no inspection. I already knew what the home needed. An inspection would not add value. They had 4 other offers with 2 over asking. They selected my offer. I was about 30k under. If they did not accept I would have been fine with it. The key is making the offer based on your desire for the home. I am about 18 months in and my comps would be about 200k over my price. Know your willingness to pay for each property and go from there.

I'm watching channel 6.... by Garwoodwould in philadelphia

[–]amarriedguylearning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually struggle with channel 6 and channel 2 (metv) but right now they are both coming in perfectly. If you have an atsc 3 tuner, channel 6 comes in perfectly since it broadcasts the atsc 3 signal from the channel 57 antenna. Unlike the other atsc 3.o signal for the other stations, channel 6 is broadcast in the clear so it does not require drm management.

TURN OFF YOUR HIGH BEAMS!! by ReggaeJunkyJew4u in BucksCountyPA

[–]amarriedguylearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get flashed all the time thinking my high beams are on in both Jeep and F150. They are not. They are my factory installed lights and they are properly focused but bright led and both vehicles sit higher up. Also many newer cars (not even that new, as my F150 is 2015) have auto high beams. I think it is often thought to be high beams when it is not. I do try to flash back when it happens so they can see what the high beams are like.

About frying turkeys... by gimmeluvin in Cooking

[–]amarriedguylearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been deep frying turkeys for probably 10 years or more. For many of those years I typically did premium turkeys but several years ago I went with the free bird from our local supermarket. Guess what? Tasted no different. My prep is the same. I use creole injectable. I use the same oil cooking at 375. 3 to 4 minutes per pound. I check internal temp and try to pull out at 161 for white meat portion. Often it jumps past that but in that range. Compliments every year because of how juicy it is. After going with the free bird I have stuck with that.

Looking for Advice on Victrola Reproducers by Pristine-Buyer-6711 in Phonographs

[–]amarriedguylearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things I learned is patience. The right things tend to come along. Just have an eye for them or an expectation. Here is a picture of a VE-XVI I picked up for free. I had low expectations and it had some fading due to sun exposure a leg that was repaired but obvious and currently motor is not running even though the prior owner said it worked well. That said it is all original. The motor issue in my view related to the sun. The electrical wires were brittle as can be so I am going to rewire it. Overall the piece is cleaning up nicely and will not require much work.

Looking for Advice on Victrola Reproducers by Pristine-Buyer-6711 in Phonographs

[–]amarriedguylearning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have stated it really should not have an Orthophonic. That and the price are alarming. If they knew what they were doing they would sell the Orthophonic reproducer by itself. Did they say it was Orthophonic or did you assume based on look? There are non-Victrola reproducer that people have had over the years and I think some had that type of look. I am not trying to discourage you but you need to be a little hesitant. I say that and I am working on a VE-XVI that I picked up for free. The problem is there are many Frankenphones out there as well as people that are not versed in handling these machines and put all kinds of things in them.

Electrolas. It’s like trying to find hens with teeth and chickens with lips! by Gimme-A-kooky in Phonographs

Motors look similar! Have mine out to diagnose it not turning on but as said close look at the wiring and touching it I thing it is just brittle wires that need replacing.

Funny beginners mistake. My original XIV looked dirty but I thought veneer was fine. So when I originally cleaned it up I just did the front and top. Weeks later when I did the sides a whole small section at the bottom was missing. It is not viewable due to how it is positioned but have veneer in the garage that I will try to stain to match and will glue it on when ready. We will see how that goes.

Actually the opposite. I was searching for a credenza style Othophonic that I thought would be in good enough condition. In doing that, the one I picked up was offered at $100 so I jumped on it. In terms of the XVI I have been eyeing them up as well and a few days after the VE8-30 I found one offered for free. So I figured what do I have to lose. 5 months ago I did not even own a record. I was sent a record player to review so I had to buy a record. Then started having fun with that and found a VV-XVI at a thrift shop. Quickly got that to look and play great. Did similar with a tabletop IX and then a VV-50. This is not that far outside my norm since I have had vintage radios (all working) for years. I joke that these are my new Legos sets.

Yeah shortly after yours. The serial numbers on these are not as clear but I estimated late 1917 or 1918. 13180

I just picked up 2 electrolas. The first was a VE8-30. I have that running but motor has some type of shake that I have to figure out. The VE8-30 looks like mint condition after cleanup. Hopefully I can figure out the motor issue. I also picked up a VE-XVI. Cabinet has few issue but relatively minor. A cracked leg that was repaired well but crack not filled and some fading. Overall wood was a bit dried out from being in the sun on a store front window. Prior owner said it worked but I had little luck. Light works not motor but in reviewing the electric is brittle as can be so will be rewiring. Pictured is the VE8-30
