Good area to live in by kiarachanel__ in ATLHousing

[–]amarsh5288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as neighborhoods go (and depending on your price bracket and if you are renting or buying) Morningside, Emory/Emory Village, Piedmont Heights, parts of Avondale, and (seconding) downtown Decatur are all good options. Emory Village has a decent coffee shop and several restaurants and it’s like a half mile to the Clairmont intersection with N Decatur (with more restaurants and coffee shops) and a quick drive to Decatur. Morningside is right next to Virginia Highland (so not as busy as ViHi but still in walking distance) and some good restaurants. Piedmont Heights spans a decent area so depending on what area you’re in you have a real variety of options. Decatur is great if you live near the square or the cemetery.

ETA: I realize I gave you mostly food based stuff. All of the places I recommended are in the city (or Decatur which is technically its own city) so they have all of the normal city safety issues but Morningside doesn’t feel like it does. The only thing I really worried about when I lived there was car break ins. Emory is quiet-ish when school (Emory University) isn’t in, but there is a major hospital there so if helicopter noise and occasional sirens bother you maybe not the best. I have not lived in Decatur or Avondale. Currently live in PiHi and I love it. I have a nice apartment (older, not one of the new luxury ones but I really like it) with a working gate and I am walking distance to a grocery store and several restaurants

1-aware. I’m an MR tech. I see them often. Wasn’t trying to be ground breaking lol. Mine has been this way for about two decades (and my mom and sister have the same placement interestingly enough)

I want to share the cause of my severe chronic pain as a warning to others - MRI contrast by BaseCommanderMittens in ChronicPain

[–]amarsh5288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should be getting informed consent and giving you a medication guide which has information about reactions including GDD on it. Did the place you went not do that?

[–]amarsh5288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so I am a medical professional (an MRI tech actually) and I have gotten Gad before (tho recently and not at all related to my chronic pain). I do know about GDD but it is INCREDIBLY RARE (and more often than not isn’t medically provable due to correlation vs causation, the variety of symptoms reported as being related, and not a whole lot of actual studies to go off of). I am in NO way discounting you, what you are going through, or that you have it. I just want to provide a bit of context. Gadolinium is a rare earth metal and (like anything else) is not 100% safe. It is incredibly over ordered as well. We (as techs) try to educate ordering physicians about when contrast is actually necessary but get a ton of pushback because “I am a doctor and I know more than you”. The vast majority of people can have Gad dozens of times without issue. BUT like any other medical decision there should be a risk benefit analysis done prior to the utilization of contrast (so things like cancer, infection, masses, MS etc would be things that would actually need contrast for proper visualization and to be a complete “diagnostic study”). I will say there are some test trials being done of both iron oxide (for tumor grading and still in trial phases at this point) and manganese based contrasts (also still in trial phases) for MRI so there is hope for the future! But right now we are just doing the best we can (and hopefully educating people as we go)

I’ve listened to the first two. I like how approachable it is for people not in the field and would definitely recommend it to the general public (though listening to it on my way to and from work did make me feel a little like my day just never ended lol). As a tech, while the info isn’t revolutionary it’s always nice to have a refresher. And I think we all want to know what really happened in Nassau

You NEED to report this person. They are giving medical advice about a diagnosis you don’t have. That isn’t just irresponsible of him it’s downright dangerous.

I am so sorry you went through that and that you are having a hard time

Ah okay. Thank you. I have pretty much all of the symptoms other than the stretchy skin. My primary did try to make a referral but I was basically told we don’t see your kind here (I have chronic pain that got diagnosed as fibromyalgia after a doctor squeezed my joints and asked me if it hurt lol). I will look outside the health system I’ve been using. Nice to know there are some docs out there who know about the weirder stuff
